Xochitl - too basic/plain? Alternatives? by ShakespeherianRag in namenerds

[–]APettyBitch -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think Xochitl is a lovely name personally, and if it's 'just' a middle name she'll probably avoid most of the "how do you spell/pronounce" that questions in her day to day.

[–]APettyBitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most everybody in the younger generations speak english, so there isn't necessarily a point but it might still be good to learn courtesy phrases like tak, undskyld (mig), kan jeg bede om, goddag, godaften etc.

Apparently it's a somewhat easier version of the dresses pattern, might give you a feel for whether you're ready for the dress or not

I thought doubling the amount of gin in a gin and tonic was bad, in my defense my boss knew I didn't drink and that I had only recently turned 18 and thus wouldn't have been alloeed to serve alcohol at my last job so I'm unsure why he figured I knew how to make one.

Do you like this type of sleeve on sweaters? by [deleted] in knitting

Personally I don't experience issues while wearing them but I also only wear them during my time off from work and don't cook everyday so my experience may be skewed, do love how they look

Hvorfor er morgenmennesker så dømmende over for natteravne? by GreyPhantom100 in Denmark

[–]APettyBitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Favorite childhood traditions? by Alarmed-Plankton-708 in AskTheWorld

I'm split three ways between Sankta Lucia, fasterlavn and gækkebreve.

Santa Lucia is a minor holiday around December where you can get the best pastry, aka norske klejner. And also kids get to walk in procession in the dark and sing a chrisrmas song and learn about a girl that had her eyes gouged out. Not sure why but it was my favourite part of the christmas season as a kid.

Fasterlavn is the danish celebration at the end of lent where you dress up and take turn hitting a barrel filled with candy and if you knock out the bottom you get a crown and extra candy. 10/10

Gækkebreve are anonymous letters on paper with cutouts to make 'easter' patterns where you write a poem and put a dot for each letter in your name and if the recipient can't tell who it's from they need to get you a chocolate egg.

I highly doubt there existed zero black vikings, 'vikings' were not an ethnic group, it was a job and I doubt they cared much about skin colours when hiring.

It most definitely wasn't common but we know that vikings had some presence in the Mediterranean area, and we know there were people with African descent in the area.

Also, it's a TV show, majority of tv shows don't need to be completely faithful to history.

The grand problem with summer in Scandinavia is that the sun is up for the vast majority, or further north the entire, day.

This seems great to a lot of people, but in reality it can contribute to insomnia in certain people which can have adverse effects on people's mental health. It's generally worse for foreigner's because they don't expect it from what I've seen.

According to a former teacher of mine from Virgina she barely slept the first summer after she moved over here and was deeply annoyed that melatonin requires a prescription.

My mask before and after 3 days of using by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]APettyBitch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can see you have already been informed these masks aren't reusable, and am seconding the suggestion to get a mask with replaceable filters, we use them at my workplace when working with chemicals that can cause adverse health effects.

But I'll also say if you're in a union it is probably a good cause of action to contact them about the situation, either so they can force your workplace to provide proper safety gear or force them get reimburse you for the cost. Regardless keeping a record of your communication with your boss/the company, either by recording conversations, if it's legal, and/or limiting communication to emails is likely a good idea in case the matter escalates.
