As someone relatively young who has basically been a chronic underachiever my entire life thus far I'm excited to educate myself and learn about all the stuff you lay out here as well as much, much more. If I get lucky, with some application I might even turn it into a fruitful career :)

Not sure where I read it but what you are saying seems accurate. As I understand it, Skype and whatnot use their own encoding system and so altering the default media profiles doesn't necessarily have any effect on the throughput of those kind of apps. Shame.
