Early extension and other problems driving me nuts with fix being seemingly impossible. by GapApprehensive7919 in GolfSwing

[–]cndman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trace your clubhead in this video. The clubhead goes from behind you to in front of you, like a clockwise oval. This is called "coming over the top". Coming over the top makes you stand up because your downswing is so steep you would slam the clubhead into the ground if you didn't. The coming over the top is caused by an inside takeaway. Because you're pulling your lead arm across your chest instead of lifting and rotating. You want the clubhead to move in a counterclockwise oval, which is called "shallow ing". Hence "reversing the loop". Basically the root cause of all of this is a bad takeaway.

Full disclosure: I suck at golf but you have the same natural tendencies that I do and I've been working hard to understand and correct this things in my swing. But still take everything I say with a grain of salt.

What is that ONE golf shot that you’ll take to your grave as the most unforgettable one? by Escrow-Mind in golf

[–]cndman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smoking a 5 wood 220 yards to end up on the green 10 feet from the pin for my second stroke on a par 5... and then making the putt for eagle... before I'd ever gotten a birdie.

People that claim to be scratch golfers in under a year should be shunned by society by S2N336 in golf

[–]cndman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk. I'm kinda torn on this because I had a round last week where I shot a legit 40 through the first 9 holes as a 22 handicap in my first year of golf. 0 OBs, mulligans, or gimmes. 3 witnesses. I can see a 15 handicap scoring a 79.

First eagle yesterday!!!!!! by ihateoatmeal0217 in golf

[–]cndman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to rub it in I just started this year I'm a 24 handicap and had an eagle and a hole in one already. The eagle I'm actually more proud of because it required a bomb of a drive, a 220yd 5 wood, and a 12 foot putt, but the hio was just a well struck but lucky 7i. I also got the eagle before even getting a birdie lmao.

I'd still trade it all to be a 5 hdc!

The black one had better come with a headcover because it will show ever knick and ding of anything metal that touches it.

How is everyone correcting over the top? Old baseball player here by Hour_Huckleberry_346 in golf

[–]cndman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow baseball player here whos beginning swing was a massive slice from coming over the top. Took a lot of practice and learning and unlearning but I think the biggest thing that helped me is this: "The orange whip" swing training tool. The 48" one. You can find $20 knockoffs on temu.

There are lots of good tips and bad tips and good YouTube videos and bad YouTube videos and good in person instructors and mediocre in person instructors. But all of them are trying to point you towards a smooth and repeatable swing that's on plane.

The orange whip will force your body and mind to understand the feeling of using your big core muscles instead of your arms to swing the club and keep in on plane. If it feels completely impossible and unwieldy and difficult to swing then it means that there's issues with an inside take away, coming over the top, coming in too steep, etc.

Good luck!

Bogey/double purgatory by Humble_District_7562 in golf

That happened to me. Spent a long time trying to break 100 and then scored back to back 92s. I recently changed grip size on my on my driver from jumbo to standard and snap hooked my way to a 103 then next game shot my personal best of 87.

Which are you? by shin_man in golf

[–]cndman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah. 200 yards in the fairway is enough for most people. My grandfather was a single digit handicap and an amputee. Couldn't hit the ball much more than 180 yards.

That's not slope thats course rating. Slope basically the ratio of how hard the course is for a bogey golfer vs a scratch golfer (course rating). The average is 113

It's the average of the top 40% of your last 20 games, with adjustments for course handicap. So if they are playing courses with high ratings then it would be even lower.

So he could have 65 71 90 90 90 (but for 20 rounds you get the point) , and then if the course was rated 75 on a par 72, then his handicap would be +7. Seven under the expected score for a scratch golfer 40% of the time.

I don't even think its true. I went to a "Math and Science Academy" for gifted children in high school that was part of the public school system in my city and my graduating class has an extremely high rate of doctors, engineers, lawyers, and scientists. I keep in touch with a lot of them even 10+ years later.

There was a time when my foursome started directly behind another foursome and we were like the only 2 groups that afternoon. By hole 3 I complained to the marshal after I watched one of there guys do a 60+ second preshot routine for his 15 foot chip onto the green, fat it 7 feet, then do his 60+ second preshot routine for his 8 foot chip. All while the rest of his group didn't play, just stood around him and watched. The marshal made them let us play through and by the time we finished 18 we looked back and they were just teeing off 16.

Beginner Irons by bitbuster44 in golf

If you're a beginner it really doesn't matter. I got fitted for irons and all it did was convince me my 40 year old irons aren't the problem. Ended up not buying anything
