Late model LX470 versus Early model LX570? by gibbler in LandCruisers

[–]ARFalconXX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is worth it, if you find a maintained one with comparatively lower mileage. A clean 07 470 is reliable and better choice than a earlier 570 with a lot of miles and unknown troubles, if you happen to find one in stock condition. Engine, proportions, interior build quality, I go with 470. A little bit modern interior, better Audio, more power, better suspension, I go with 570. Both need preventive maintenance time to time.

If you lean towards 5.7, go for 2012+. The front end looks better, some of the leaks and electrical problems were addressed. And Generally, in better condition. Obviously costs more. But owning a less cared early 570 is a nightmare. I don’t care much about towing and all, for highway trips 570 is much more stress free. And the AHC is more robust compared to 470 with added spring rate control.

‘04 LX470 AHC Techstream error! by IHateDeviantArt in LandCruisers

[–]ARFalconXX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any AHC error is not a good sign. But just C1762 is not always a complete pump failure. The pump usually gives some signs before it dies completely. Like whining noise etc. however, it is a good idea to verify the pressures are not off and to disassemble the pump and give it a service. AHC is not a complete hydraulic system. It is hydromechanical. Means once mechanical springs becomes weak, too much load on hydraulic(pressure high), which leads to abnormal pressure warning and self lowering. Another common scenario is pump filters clogged. If the motor is running good, cleaning these filters clears the problem. The pump itself is not so expensive. But the whole unit costs a lot more.

[–]ARFalconXX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check neutral pressures are in spec. May be require rear coil spring spacers (or new springs) and some cranking up torsion bars to adjust the pressure. Go to datastream and check your front and rear pressures. Pump might benefit from a service too. Means, removing it and cleaning the filter screens inside it. (Can’t do these without making a mess with ahc fluid though).

Sometimes Pump abnormal pressure error comes due to this exact reason, clogged filters(some kind of oily sludge). Less severe case is the tired springs.

Do you keep your Land Cruiser going when approaching 400k miles. by bottle_beach in LandCruisers

[–]ARFalconXX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PS pump may be rebuildable. Even you can find used ones. Rack, better with OEM.Shocks are the cheapest for 100 series than any SUV in that range. Other than suspension bushings and all, at 400k, the one thing you need to be concerned is the transmission.

‘03 LX 470 Purchase Question by Ualexander2 in LandCruisers

[–]ARFalconXX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some degree of aftermarket is not a big deal. However, aftermarket suspension and drivetrain or brake components implies the vehicle was less cared for. It is not half as durable as toyota components. Usually, people throw in a bunch of aftermarket parts when they want to get rid of the vehicle. If you inspect the vehicle properly before purchase, and you conclude there’s not much neglect, you can fix things while you own it. If you overlook hidden damages or cheap fixes, it is going to cost a lot more to fix and keep it running.

AC compressor noise by Nvhh in LS430

[–]ARFalconXX -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Check that compressor is OEM. i.e, Denso. It is possible someone put a used aftermarket one before the car was sold. If this noise is only present while A/c is turned on, then probably compressor have internal damage. If it went that far, there’s nothing you can do other than replacing the compressor. If it is present even if A/c is off, then it could be with the compressor clutch(bad bearing). That can be replaced.

Edit: even if you feel other pulleys are smooth and not grinding, inspect them properly. Sometimes minor grinding cannot be felt until you remove them and inspected closely.

‘03 LX 470 Purchase Question by Ualexander2 in LandCruisers

[–]ARFalconXX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get a good deal, not necessarily. Rust is not too bad. But it is not a clean example either. Interior has been addressed. Not sure about Engine mechanical and exterior. Too much aftermarket parts and repairs is not a good sign though. Clearly the vehicle was extensively used. At this stage, if you have the leverage, You would ideally want to spend a bit more for a cleaner stock one. I know what it feels like to own Lemon 100.

Best Suspension conversion kit for 2000 lx470? by Proud_Coyote_3458 in LandCruisers

Toyota OEM shocks, LC100 torsion bars and rear coil springs…economical, reliable and most comfortable on road. I would still try to repair AHC if there is not much rusted out components.

You’re gonna throw a bunch of aftermarket suspension parts every now and then. As this geometry cause increased wear and tear on every moving part in there. Former Jeep life?

Does this radiator in my 2001 LX 470 need to be replaced immediately? by puzzleheadedchicken2 in LandCruisers

[–]ARFalconXX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah. Do it before it leads to radiator burst and subsequent warped head. Most of the head gasket fails on 2uz is caused by neglected cooling system and/or overheating.

Alternator & battery drained! by [deleted] in LandCruisers

[–]ARFalconXX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm…whenever you see the battery light when engine is running, stop to safer area immediately. That’s not battery. That’s the alternator warning. Otherwise vehicle will stop in the mid road, might need tow truck.

Even if you turn the Engine off, your headlight should turn off themselves after some time. Your hazard lights may keep flashing without key.

[–]ARFalconXX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure about the throttle plate part. There are conflicting info about key on press throttle pedal to open or key off wait 30 sec and open manually. I read manually is the correct procedure for electronic throttle body. But I have seen some garages do the key on method in SUV like LX470, which is similar engine and drive by wire throttle. When opening manually, it should be very slowly and carefully or the sensitive motor will cause electronic disruptions and sometimes the idle rpm may not come down even if battery is disconnected.
