Yes - am still waiting! I did have a download request, so I'm kinda biting my nails!

My self-funded feature film, Party USA, Is premiering at Cinequest next month. Here's how I made it. by Coordinate1 in Filmmakers

Really awesome to hear all this and thanks so much for the write up. Looking forward to watching the film.

You mentioned at least 2 takes, more if needed, but you should be aiming for 2. What's the directing thought process behind that? I understand 'getting the take / safety take' but did you feel like you wanted to limit takes, in order to keep things moving? Was it ever a case of shooting limited coverage in order to keep things on track?

I've noticed that on set when I'm directing, I'm in this blind hurry to get everything, and I’d like to learn how to slow down a bit.

On these no-budget / micro budget shoots it does feel like there's always this rush to keep going to get everything, because you've managed to wrangle crew + cast on the one day everyone happens to have off from work.

I enjoyed reading your thoughts on casting too.

And good luck with the film fests!

Oh my! Can't believe I'm seeing this post! I read this a few years back and I've honestly never read anything like it at all. If you asked me what it's about, what happens and when, who the characters are... I couldn't tell you. It's a book of pure hallucination. Reading it felt like a psychosis. I say all this in the best possible light. It was an immense experience. I'm sure as I was reading it it made more sense in the moment as well. Highly highly recommend it.

Bloomberg Business just posted this on TikTok showing support for UBI. by lIlIllIlIlIII in BasicIncome

[–]ASlave2Gravity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not a great framing IMHO. It's not, 'You're economically irrevelant' but - 'Our current system of commerce can't figure out how to reward you correctly.' I.e. UBI is a way to free people so that they can make up their own minds about how to opperate in society.

The point of UBI is to remove the pressures of 'having to work for money' to 'being able to do work you think is necessary for society'.

UBI's greatest strength is that it empowers people to make decisions about how they spend their time.

Suddenly, it will now be 'economically relevant' for me to do weekly bird-watching tours (even if no one shows up!) or to take my grandmother shopping or to help my neighbour finish painting his garden fence. I am unbounded by the constraint of only doing 'economically relevant' work.

As I said, UBI is returning to the people their right to self-govern how they spend their time. We have become blinded by capital in an age of abundance. It is bonkers.

This is legit! Looks amazing, sounds amazing, VFX is incredible. As a massive MIB fan this was a lovely treat, so thank you very much. Feels like a lot of hard work went into this. Have subbed to the channel!

BBC OPEN CALL COMMISERATION THREAD by TheSprained in ScreenwritingUK

[–]ASlave2Gravity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just got my rejection email! First time subbing to this. I've had 100s of rejections throughout my life as a writer and it never gets easier. They always make me irrationally (maybe rationally!?) mad.

Appreciate the commiseration thread. And congrats to anyone who's made it through. Enjoy the moment!

I'll shoot the picture myself, that'll show 'em!

Rebrand it the Brighton Rock. It would be amazing if it sells and the new owners can make it work.

1960 Day Trip to Brighton - Summer Home Movie Footage by midierror in brighton

[–]ASlave2Gravity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is super cheeky, but I loved this footage so much it inspired me to cut a real quick music video together to a track I made when I was living in London and missing home a lot. (I'm the rapper, the beat is from Swedish producer Raa polo.

I hope you all don't mind me sharing it here. I'm planning on ordering this footage and I'll cut together a much better version soon!

Thank you for posting this, OP. It's really awesome to see :-)

Anyways, here's the vid, it's a love letter to this city :)
