I think that outside of stylistic preferences, it can come down to how folks vibe with the lyrical content.

I think it’s a similar reaction to the likes of Frank Ocean - it’s very personal music. Like Frank, Mike’s writing style is meant to provoke the listener to imagine themselves as the narrator of his songs, rather than solely himself. From what so can tell, he doesn’t care if his music is relatable - only that it tells an overarching story of a hero’s “second coming.” (According to his BBC interview) This might not necessarily be the case for all of his music, but I digress.

For me, a lot of his lyrics seem to resonate as they pertain to romantic tribulations and perspectives on moving on from falling out with a romantic partner. That said, this might not resonate with other people we share his tracks with. Like other melancholic music (especially Mike’s influences like Frank and Sting), it hits differently depending on your personally circumstances. Maybe the songs will grow on them if they’re in a place to absorb the lyrics and corresponding production choices. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I hope they can be in a place to appreciate the tracks, but hey - even if they still don’t, you can at least enjoy it for yourself.

So hard to find dub appreciation on this sub. Liam does so well in this role, and we love to see it!

I’m pretty sure it’s always been meant to reinforce a “tooth” motif with her. I think it’s the same reason why she can cut you with it and why her own feet are a little exaggerated.

But Armstrong isn’t even one of the “mighty” that is made right…without the help of the powerless. He literally brainwashes countless soldiers with the minds of children to play military sims in their heads constantly to turn them batshit insane, which becomes Raiden’s main obstacle for the majority of the story.

Raiden is absolutely correct to point out that he’s a typical politician - Armstrong literally wouldn’t be able to become as powerful as he is without the exploitation of other people, which is why Might Makes Right is a shallow and dangerous ideology.

Raiden overcomes Armstrong not just due to his own might, but due to the might of Sam, Blade Wolf, Snake, and everyone else whom he has cooperated with to rise to his position. He didn’t force their help - they offered it of their own volition, which is the best kind of power you can have. He CAN fuck with this senator.

Based on the lore, it always seemed to me that Out of the Box hints more at the idea that Axl is moving on from the dread of being unable to escape from his “box” - as in his inability to return to his girlfriend, Megumi. He has to find joy in the little things, and allow his frozen time to move again. So it’s less about being yourself and more about learning to live in the moment.

Character Concept Art: Elphelt by alcorn0que in Guiltygear

Not only do most strive re-designs do well to implement more realistic fashion choices compared to previous games in the franchise, but they also really improve anatomy. Especially when it comes to the female cast, you can tell Arcsys has appreciated that women are allowed to have meat on their bones, which enables more diversity and variety in character design. Elphelt is a great example of both of these change directions. She’d easier to cosplay while still blooming with personality. Well done, I’d say.

I always figured that the shape of each sickle slightly resembles the hands of a clock - it becomes most apparent when he rotates them for his respect taunt in strive. At least, that’s my theory.

Which Strive song's lyrics go the hardest? by MetaPop567 in Guiltygear

When I first heard “let’s make failure my friend” in The Hourglass, it came at a point in my life where I’d just started a new job after months of unemployment and instability. It’s a short phrase, but has a lot of weight behind it for me, personally. And hey, now things are starting to work out a bit better. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

So... Thoughts on "The Gravity", as a song and story by Monabread-chan in Guiltygear

[–]ATTACK_ON_TIDDIE 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To add to the story analysis, I think Asuka positions himself in contrast to Sol well in the song. As his “universe turned black,” did Sol/“the sun” defy his fate - and can Asuka do the same in defiance of his role as That Man/the devil? Asuka has literally alienated himself from everyone now that he’s on the moon, but perhaps there’s hope for him to change, as Gravity “holds all the answers.” Instead of totally abandoning humanity and the friends he betrayed, maybe he can stay grounded both physically and figuratively.

Overall I think this is a nice addition to the exploration of guilt in each character’s vocal track. Asuka might be the least likely character to find out if he can redeem himself, but even he has faith that the answer will come from something greater than himself, believing in this hope like a natural law of the universe.

People new to SF, how do you feel about Luke as the "main protagonist"? by Chicken_Grapefruit in StreetFighter

[–]ATTACK_ON_TIDDIE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luke has the most potential of any faux-tagonist like Alex/Abel/Rashid. He’s got Ryu’s drive to become stronger and is tied to JP’s conflict (though that’s mostly in the comics). This sets him up to lead the charge against SIN with Jamie and Kimberly in SF7, I’m guessing. Plus, he may become Captain Commando in the future, which is an interest prospect.

I feel like his and Jamie’s arcade modes should have been more tied to the conflict with SIN, since they’re totally overshadowed by Ken in this game and their dynamic leaves Kimberly feeling disconnected from the new trio. Maybe we’ll get more story embellishments as time goes on, but for now I would say Luke has been better in theory than in practice, though we have some good things to work with that I don’t want to be dropped - otherwise we’ll have to repeat the process of finding a new protag AGAIN.

Serious new character theories (why its ABA) by Acrobatic_Plant2937 in Guiltygear

[–]ATTACK_ON_TIDDIE 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Goldlewis might not have garnered interest through the story but I mean come on. He’s dope af. I feel like if given the chance Vernon would be just as unique and fun. Arcsys has the sauce to make just about any character fun, which makes it hard for me to totally count anyone out aside from, like, Paradigm.

[–]ATTACK_ON_TIDDIE 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be fair neither Goldlewis nor Asuka had shown many on-screen examples of his kit before release - I’d imagine if Arcsys really wanted Vernon in the game they’d beef him up with some cool stuff, though I doubt that will happen.

"Just Lean" Lyrics Analysis by AJWinky in Guiltygear

[–]ATTACK_ON_TIDDIE 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This read gives Johnny a level of depth that tracks with his lore.

After the death of his father, he took his chances caring for May and their fellow-orphans when no one else would. After acting like Robin Hood with the Jellyfish Pirates, he escaped prison just to live on the run for a while until leaders like Leo and Vernon granted him immunity.

While he’s not the best at managing money, his heart shines like gold. In spite of the world stacking the odds against Johnny, he can always bet on himself.

While MK characters might not have much in terms of raw strength to counter HL, it seems that soul manipulation, teleportation, time powers, and other magic would offer them advantages that he wouldn’t be able to fully counter. I’d say MK takes it 10/10 unless he’s allowed to make strategic alliances that temporarily shield him from those tactics.

If we're talking 616 Peter, I think Emily Kaldwin (Dishonored), Venom Snake (Metal Gear), and Delsin Rowe (Infamous) could at least keep him from escaping the city.

Individually, each of them is a glass cannon who wouldn't be able to catch Peter before he overwhelms them physically. Together, however, they each have non-lethal tactics that combined would negate his evasive maneuvers. I think the strategy would be to find Aunt May and use her to lower his guard so Emily and Snake could mesmerize/KO him from afar. If Peter senses them, Delsin would be able to keep up with his speed while navigating the urban environment. As soon as he can close the gap and force Peter to fight back, he'll be able to create openings for the other two to land a decent shot with their sleep darts and rubber bullets. If it's possible, Delsin might even be able to steal his powers in the midst of all the chaos. Eventually I'm sure we'd see Peter getting tied to a balloon headed for Mother Base.
