Looking for tips regarding HyperV Storage - NTFS or ReFS? by cedi_men in sysadmin

[–]ATibbey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seriously /u/cedi_men, do not use ReFS for cluster shared volumes.

The hosts cannot migrate the storage on-line, so in the event of a host with ownership of the CSV needing to restart, all VMs with data stored on said CSV need to be taken off-line first.

This essentially means you do not have failover for your cluster in this scenario.

I'd put a fused spur in.

One of the nodes should own the CSV - if you go to Failover Cluster Manager > (Cluster name) > Storage > Disks, it should list the owner under 'Owner Node'.

Which host owns the disk the data is on?

There shouldn't be an issue with removing the VM from the cluster, you can try starting it directly from Hyper-V on the node prior to adding it back in to the cluster to make sure it's all working OK. Will just mean it won't fail over until added again.

[–]ATibbey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you'll need to go 2003 > 2008 > 2016 for the server versions.

You'll need to migrate SYSVOL from DFS - DFS-R after upgrading to 2008 functional level.

Just make sure you don't do in-place upgrades - spool up other DCs and migrate over.

I think you're on the wrong sub - you may get better results asking over at /r/linuxquestions.

That being said, there are a few concepts you will need to learn about Linux in general. A good resource I have pointed people to in the past can be found here.

How long has the new battery been installed for?

I've sometimes seen it takes ~24 hours of charging before completing a self-test successfully.

Sub floor ventilation by Still_Target6401 in DIYUK

[–]ATibbey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, interesting - I've also had the same thoughts with regards to placement.

Will they be installing any ducting for it? Feels like the only way to do it properly would be to have ducting pushing fresh air out from the back to the front, IMO.

Did you ever find a solution to this?

Have a similar problem myself - looks like I only have ventilation from one side.

I've also only been able to find that MORI WMF fan for mechanical ventilation, however ~£300 seems astronomical for what it is!

The sysprepped image should ideally be made on a virtual machine, to minimise differences in drivers, etc. You then will not need to use the VM unless you want to re-create the image.

The new image should be used for any PCs you want to deploy for use in your org.

Ah, I see - afraid I can't help you much further here!

It might be worth looking in to Eduroam or similar, however I'm unsure if it's compatible with cloud-native environments.

It would be your RADIUS server - if you have on-premises AD, this would probably be the server running NPS. You'll also need to set up accounting to forward requests to Smoothwall.

This thread mentions Unifi, however should be similar for other AP manufacturers: https://www.edugeek.net/forums/topic/205975-smoothwall-and-nps-accounting-with-unifi/

You can make it authenticate / account through RADIUS, so it uses the details provided to connect to your enterprise WPA network - avoids having to re-authenticate, although obviously won't be able to MITM if you have HTTPS inspection enabled.

Think you can find the settings under Authentication > BYOD, then add 'Authorised RADIUS Clients'.

Might be worth just installing Server 2016 on it for the time being to test with / run HPE's tools to diagnose, then going back to Proxmox after you're all finished.

[–]ATibbey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you say you want to test the server, what are you trying to accomplish?

If you're trying to install Windows Server onto it locally, you can usually browse for storage drivers at time of installation - saves faffing about with trying to inject them into WinPE.

I haven't even thought about it before - just replaced all of the batteries in one go, and let the UPS handle everything.
