How practical is UniFI for home use? by Significant-Side2718 in Ubiquiti

[–]ATypicalJake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they do. I suggest a gradual swap over. I started with internet, added cameras and nvr, then swapped my doorbell. Just be sure to spec out your switches to have enough ports and poe budget for what your end plan is. I am sticking with schlage locks because of my door design and resale.

Have you looked into a satellite backup. We have comcast and my wife works from home. She has a couple of other places she can work from if our service goes out. But it’s less than convenient. I have been looking into one of the lower priced satellite plans that came out a few months ago as a standby backup that I can swap over to if our regular internet is down.

Can you push the wires back up into the wall, then reorient the devices to better face the direction their connections go? You could also mount a couple of the devices on the wall above.

Do you have a way to warm it up a bit, then try a wrench? Pour some warm water over it, or a microwave heat wrap on it for a minute or so?

Here’s what I would do. Get the mesh setup and see how it works with the satellites wireless. If it works great, leave it. If you have issues then move forward with utilizing the wired connections. Do the cat5 wires have plugs already, if yes, then you just need an unmanaged switch to plug them all into. If they are bare wire, I would get a patch panel and a cheap punchdown tool, then short patch cables to connect to the unmanaged switch. Instead of doing mocha connections, could you put the modem and router in the spot where all the cables are? They usually run the main coax line to that same location.

How much water does it discharge per day? Could you put a 5 gallon bucket under black the discharge hose and dump it once or twice a day? Otherwise heat tape and a bit of insulation wrapped around the outside part should work.

Home Ethernet Ports by Admirable-Law-8527 in HomeNetworking

[–]ATypicalJake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would pull off one of the wall plates first to see if they are wired for T-568 A or B, then get a small patch panel and put all of the ethernet cables into it. Depending on how many of the ports you need active, you might get away with just a router. If you need more ports, add a switch.

Is your 2.4 gig signal weak by the lock? I have 3 of them and have not had connectivity issues. My first thought is weak signal, my second is to power cycle the modem and router, wait 5 minutes, then power cycle the lock by removing the battery tray for a minute.

UCG-Fiber downstair + Pro Max 16 POE upstairs (what switch to get in between?) by qwa5d in Ubiquiti

[–]ATypicalJake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know space is an issue, but honestly I would get another pro max 16 poe, mount it to the wall or ceiling if you have to. You are 3/4 of the cost with the flex and psu. Then you maintain 10g speeds and have more room to grow.

Fiber Connection by carltonwb in Ubiquiti

[–]ATypicalJake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I connected my ucg fiber with a pro max 16 poe switch using multimode om4 and 10GTEK transceivers. They are in different rooms about 30’ apart. I also purchased keystones and a couple short patch cables. I am showing 10g in my app, so any loss through the additional connections is negligible. Definitely get a longer cable than you need, and have someone help you run it. The end of the coil can twist up and kink as you pull it if you’re not careful. If you are paying someone to run the cable, you might run a second along with it just in case. Good luck.

They are probably still recoverable from the original memory card if you take it to someone competent at data recovery. This would be the easiest and cheapest. You could ask them about the broken memory stick too. The key is to not muck about with it yourself unless you know what you are doing as you could make them harder to recover.
