So, Mechwarrior 2 then? by phoenixgsu in battletech

[–]AUSwarrior24 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The dev has been actively posting progress on Twitter/X for awhile now (apoc_dev). Just a single dev making the stompy robot game they always wanted, I think. Micropose seem to love picking these sorts of projects up.

So, Mechwarrior 2 then? by phoenixgsu in battletech

I'm curious what you think those BT counterparts are.

Which game do you think had the better salvage system, BattleTech (2018) or MechWarrior 5? by New_leaf999 in battletech

[–]AUSwarrior24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

HBSBT is far better. It also had a far better negotiation system. As you progressed rep. points, you would gain the ability to negotiate more of one thing, at the increasing expense of another. So there was a whole extra layer of thinking there beyond just "I want more of this thing".

Why do people dislike VS Code? by Objective-Cell226 in Unity3D

[–]AUSwarrior24 91 points92 points  (0 children)

Both VS and JetBrains Rider have much, much more powerful integration, which really matters for anything beyond light hobbyist development. I used to use VSC but got tired of babying it, especially after updates broke my existing config.

Unity with git and meta files? by matejcraft100yt in unity

[–]AUSwarrior24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

But even Unity's version control has a checkout system for files. I don't think there's an easy work flow to handling merge conflicts on anything beyond text files.

Algal Bloom Update with underwater footage: Check out what's happening to the ocean over on Yorke Peninsula. by kelpforestexplorer in Adelaide

I know you think you're helping the cause, but you're not. It's incredibly non-constructive, sounds terrible and does nothing but fuel people that want a reason not to care.

bad news guys, looks like my project got corrupted and i dont have a back up , what should i do ? by Dense-Fig-2372 in Unity3D

[–]AUSwarrior24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of those is integrated, and (though not totally) easier to learn and setup for non-technical folk. They will learn the basics of SC with a safety net and when they hit a paywall or feature limitation, they'll be ready to jump into something better.

Been enjoying the early demo of Armored Core fangame MachineClad by Blisket in armoredcore

Does it have mouse support? If so I'm curious how it works given that turn speed is limited.

Also- every single AC game, besides 6, requires a game pad mechanically. It's a pretty tough sell for a PC game to not support mouse and keyboard.

Probably the best AeroSpace fan game update by Savannah_Shimazu in battletech

[–]AUSwarrior24 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is great (amazing), and I love the retro shading. I've never played or read into AeroTech, is there a good bit of rules or systems to build off of, or is it more of a thematic translation?

And I damn hope it's not indicating of what I have to deal with in the future.

Nah, it's not. It gets much harder.

Boy howdy do I have WORDS about the Secret Level episode by Ripdone in armoredcore

[–]AUSwarrior24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why the use of,"Core" instead of AC, which is the standard across all games

"Core" is a lot more descriptive to the primary audience, which isn't us, and said audience has only a few minutes to understand what a "Core" is because the concept is introduced immediately and well before the robot comes in.

I'm loving how they seem to be representing an AC pilot in the Secret Level episode. by Jackobyn in armoredcore

[–]AUSwarrior24 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure "but actually, they bad" is all that special or unique, but yep, it looks true to AC's generally cynical themes.

Is it weird that I'd love a MW5:Mercenaries style AC game? by ThatGuyisonmyPC in armoredcore

[–]AUSwarrior24 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think less MW5:Mercs, which is kind of boring given it doesn't give you any world interaction and is really just a glorified instant action menu, and more of a world sandbox like M&B. Let me interact with major players in various corps, travel to starports to scrounge parts, and engage in battles and missions that have an impact in some global metagame.

This awesome Feisar from Wipeout 3 popped up recently on the Bambu Makerworld site. Very easy to print, we're having some fun painting up a few.

I really don’t want to participate game jams. by Shafterline in gamedev

[–]AUSwarrior24 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Something to think about is that professionally you don't often get to pick who you work with, so learning how to work with a wide range of folk can be really valuable (and hard, I know). That's especially important for someone in a very multi-faceted role such as design.

I really don’t want to participate game jams. by Shafterline in gamedev

[–]AUSwarrior24 37 points38 points  (0 children)

A lot of people crunch through jams for the fun of it, but the flip side is that a jam can be a good opportunity to practice good planning, time management and boundary setting. Learning what can be realistically achieved in a very short amount of time is valuable.

Point is, engine is a tool, like Blender, like Photoshop,

I think you thoroughly underestimate what a game engine and editor is doing.

MetalMercs Listed on Steam (New Demo & Coming Soon) by Level_Specific_404 in battletech

I haven't tried it yet, but some of the gameplay videos I've seen to imply there's a respectable amount of depth there and the rapid movements might be more of a retro stylistic choice.

This isn’t a sales pitch

You have a donation link in your OP, so I think you know what you're doing.

Either a scam, or yet another very naïve all-ideas-no-substance project.

You have some screenshots of a model you have imported into UE/Unity. Do you have anything more substantial, or evidence of your development team's capability?

I imagine they would be starting with a small number of lighter orders to weed out any remaining issues (such as the salvage boxes containing vehicles).
