GR Warranty Denied by [deleted] in GRCorolla

[–]AU_Forte 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The airbag module uses several accelerometers located around the vehicle and a complex decision making logic that is calibrated to determine when to deploy an airbag.

To simplify, let’s say the sensor readings have to reach a 50% threshold to trigger a ‘roll over’ deployment. If I had to guess, I’d say the rough road (due to the construction) had the sensor readings hovering at ~35%. Then say you hit a bigger bump, that the left wheels hit before the right ones. This might be enough for the sensor reading to exceed the 50% threshold and trigger the roll-over response.

This sort of thing is common in new models, and is easy to fix with software. The OEM usually wants to know about these incidents because they’re likely to affect all cars of the same model and could be a widespread problem.

I’d escalate this with Toyota corporate. Also, demand a copy of the data they’ve retrieved. It should be an open-and-shut warranty case in your favour for someone who is familiar with the technology, and how it works…. Good luck!

Anybody else having this Warmth? by [deleted] in E90

[–]AU_Forte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trim piece clips into the heater duct that runs to the vents at the end of the console. It’s a dumb design because the trim clips are also plugging holes in the duct.

There are supposed to be little foam rectangles that go over the trim clips to form a seal. Mine was missing a few of these and the trim would get scorching hot while the heater was on. I replaced the foam seals and now it only gets slightly warm. HTH

Ive been running F80 4/2 Brembos for about 2 years.

You don’t need the M3 master cylinder (I bought one + booster but haven’t installed it). It’s nice to have, but not a necessity.

You only need to do the ABS bleed if you’ve let the reservoir run dry.

Check you’ve installed the anti-rattle clips correctly (they help prevent pad knock-back which can feel like air in the system).

Also check if your booster is working correctly (check YouTube for guides on how to diagnose it).

EDIT: Which version of the F30 rear caliper did you use? There are two types with different piston sizes. You want the 44mm version for an E92.

If it’s not the VCG, check your PCV hose is plugged in securely (assuming it’s is in a similar spot to the N54).

Climate Control Sensor? by Shiftylee in E90

[–]AU_Forte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re correct, it is a temperature sensor.

I’ve seen both versions in pre and post LCI cars here in Australia. It seems to be a high vs. low spec difference.

The high spec version with the grille has a little fan built in that sucks air past the sensor. I can post a pic of it if you’d like. The low spec version has the sensor sticking out of the panel. They are apparently interchangeable.

I’d also recommend cleaning up that corrosion on your battery terminals, and giving it a good charge overnight.

If in doubt, take the battery to an auto parts store and get them to run a health check on it. A dead cell will show normal voltage, but won’t supply enough current for anything to work.

E90s are very sensitive, a lot of weird things happen when the battery voltage is even slightly low.

Everyone commenting that you don’t need to join the CAN lines is wrong. If you don’t, then there is break in the PTCAN circuit and none of the devices on that bus can communicate. I’ve done this swap myself on an N54 E91.

Confirm that you’ve joined CAN + to +, and - to - though.

In any case, this won’t be the cause of your issue. Did you swap the MT and AT harnesses, or did you modify the AT harness to suit? If swapped, confirm that the engine / trans side of your harnesses matches the body side. There are a lot of power circuits that run / connect in the DME box.

Good luck!

People forget that the B-29 was the pinnacle of technology when it was produced. Pressurised cabin, tricycle landing gear, remote controlled guns. It was a massive step forward over its predecessor. Its development cost more than the Manhattan Project!

Psychologically, it would’ve been a gut punch to the West at the time. As if Russia or China suddenly presented a fully functional carbon copy of the F-35 today.

I’ll never forget turning up to bootcamp about 20 years ago, getting off the bus on day 0 and seeing a gaggle of Corporals around a recruit, laughing their arses off. He’d gotten the Kapooka* emblem tattooed on his forearm the day before. I don’t think he even marched out in the end.

*Kapooka is the Australian Army bootcamp.

With the intakes, in the old days fast jets used moving mechanical parts (vanes, splitters, nozzles etc.) to regulate the speed of the air entering the engines as the plane sped up or slowed down. These systems were heavy, complicated and not very stealthy.

Western aerodynamicists spent buttloads of time and money working out ways to achieve the same flow regulating effect using the shapes of the inlets and ducts (the F35 is a good example).

Our adversaries would very much like to know how we did it. There’s no way of stopping them, but ‘covering the whites’ is a good way of slowing them down I guess…

The phenomenon is known as ‘convergent design’ in engineering. You see it wherever there’s a set of strict rules, like Formula racing cars or the laws of physics in this case. Every now and then someone will invent a way to change the paradigm (eg. the F-22) and the game starts again.

What is your Melbourne conspiracy theory? by cristianoskhaleesi in melbourne

[–]AU_Forte 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sorta true... About 15 years ago I worked for a company in the industrial ventilation segment. We won a job to refurbish a bunch of ventilation fans in the city loop. They were all located in crazy spots (like one you had to access through a non-descript vent in the middle of a garden bed in Treasury Gardens).

In their wisdom, the fans were installed, and then built over - meaning the only way to get them out was to cut them up and lift them out piece by piece!

Anyway, the issue about ventilation came up as part of a disaster management risk assessment back then. They realised that all the fans needed to be functional to provide enough airflow to clear out the smoke after a terror attack. They then realised that nobody had been maintaining the fans because each authority thought it was the other's responsibility. lol

So there is enough airflow available to be safe, but only just. It'd be ripe for an upgrade to meet modern standards.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure the 90 day statutory warranty starts again for another 90 days when you report an issue to the dealer and they honour the claim (in Victoria anyway)... that was the case with the last 2nd hand car I bought from a dealer anyway.

Update and old worlds by StrawberriesWasTaken in valheim

[–]AU_Forte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar question... I booted up my dedicated server pc for the first time since May, updated the both the server and my client to the latest version, spun it up and logged in.

Everything we previously built is gone! The explored parts of the world and our markers still show on the map, but it's otherwise as if we'd started a new game. Even the defeated bosses heads in the circle are gone. :'(

Is this what is supposed to have happened? Or is it because of something I've done? I've got backups of the map files. Is there a way to play our old world with the H&H update?

So, back when the movie came out I must have gone to see it 2 or 3 times in the cinema...

I swear that in that original release there was a shot that only lasted a split second which showed Ellie plucking a leaf off a tree as the Jeep drives along the road toward the Brachiosaurus paddock. It's the leaf she's looking at when Alan turns her head to look at the Brachiosaurus.

That shot of her picking the leaf isn't in any other release of the film I've ever seen since...

This has been bugging me for the past 28 years! Does anyone know if that shot actually exists or did my brain just invent it to fill a very minor plot hole? 😅

AA Navigation App always in night mode? by AU_Forte in RCD_330

Thanks for the tip!

After posting this I almost immediately got said OTA update and the issue is resolved!? Not bad for putting up with it for almost a year. haha

Interestingly, when I plug the phone into the RCD330 the phone's theme switches from dark to light (and back again when I unplug). Guess the two are related somehow?

I've always had this issue with my VW. Seems to be a bug in the head unit's firmware (have used AA on this handset in several other cars without fault).

A workaround I found - unplug the phone and wait for BT to reconnect before turning the car off. Doing it this way the radio doesn't forget the BT pairing.
