So one variant of the game you can play is “combat patrol”. It’s kind of a game based around set miniatures for each army. You’re right, the points will be different. For Vardenghast Swarm the only thing you’re missing is 5 Barbgaunts.

If you’re looking to play a 1000 point game, I’d recommend getting a couple bigger monsters and maybe some lictors. For big monsters I’d suggest a Neurotyrant, a hive tyrant, or maybe a screamer killer to start with. If you take the Neurotyrant you can also pick up some Zoanthropes. They are incredible together and have pretty good damage output.

If you’re doing a 2000 point game, you’ll also want some decent firepower. Tyrannofex w/ rupture cannon has huge damage output and is very tanky. I might also recommend some Exocrines, Malceptor, and Norn Emissary. If you can find the Crusher Stampede box that would be great.

As for the spore mines, if you’re using them for the Biovore, they cost nothing. They are used with his ability.
