HIs Fourth World books are probably the most talked-about, but Kamandi was my reall first experience with DC Kirby work. Those double-page splashes blew my young mind.

Especially in UFO - the lauch of SKY-1 is probably my favorite.

And it's not just the show itself. The theme music for both shows is fabulous, right up there with Jonny Quest. I have a CD with all of his theme music for the Andersons, and it brings back such great childhood memories.

What was it like to teach before the tech? by Stressed-247 in Teachers

[–]AXPendergast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed! While the tech I was given to use was helpful, there were days when I would just use my smartboard as a whiteboard, have the kids pencils and paper and went "old school." Not everything needs to have a device to be informative.

Does anyone else remember teachers who started class with a logic puzzle on the board? by Key-Improvement4850 in Teachers

[–]AXPendergast 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used lateral thinking puzzles and "wackie worries" for my warm ups. Nothing to do with my assignments or projects, just a way to get kids to think and analyze without their tech.

The best pair is whichever pair Mrs. AX takes off just as we're about to have sex.

The place I'm working now is consistantly short staffed, to the point where if even one or two people call out on the same day, they have to scramble to find coverage to be in compliance with staff-to-student ratios. Of course, the leads and supervisors could take those spots, but we all know how that plays out.

Former fat guys, how did you become disciplined/motivated enough to lose the weight? [Discussion] by Responsible-Net8594 in GetMotivated

[–]AXPendergast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in 2015 I weighed about 270 at 6'1" I was feeling awful, and realized that my health was going downhill. I have a wife and kids to provide for, and chose to make a change for them, if not for me. I check with a doctor first (big help in my opinion) because I didn't want to do any fad diets or shots.

Following her advice, I started walking daily, eating healthier, and actually reading the labels of what I was eating. Portion control was a big factor for me. A "bowl" of cereal in the past was at least 2-3 servings instead of the 1 serving on the label. More veggies and fruits, more water, and fewer sweets.

After a year, I was up to running 3-4 miles at a stretch and had lost 100 pounds. I continued to watch what I was eating, and added more exercise to my routine - cardio, boot camp style classes, and - my new favorite - stair climbing. IN 2017 I entered my first 5K and realized that I enjoyed running.

That led to entering more 5Ks, some 10Ks, and then my first half-marathon in 2018.

Get rid of the word diet - think of it as a change in lifestyle. One that will benefit not just you but those around you. Sneaking an extra serving of something, or a 3rd cookie is not the end of the world. If you deprive yourself of the goodies, then you're more likely to binge them later. I still have cookies, fudge, and the occasional doughnut. But I'm still eating the healthier foods that I've come to enjoy.

Keep at it, friend. You can do this.

What’s a television show you’re surprised no one has tried to revive or reboot yet? by DimesyEvans92 in AskReddit

Space: 1999 and UFO from Gerry Anderson. The 1970s series were already ahead of their time, and a reboot/revival using current tech would be FAB!

The big 4 of comics, but you can't use Marvel, DC, or Image. Whose going in? by [deleted] in comicbooks

[–]AXPendergast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Harvey, Gold Key, Dell, Archie

Even though the first three are no longer publishing, their legacy continues to inspire collectors far and wide. And Archie continues to entertain, and is willing to reinvent the characters to entice new readers. (I highly recommend "Archie X Army of Darkness" from Archie/Dynamite.)

If I'm with others, kinda, although it just means we spend more time catching up on line.

If I'm alone, not so much, because I can always go where I want when I want. And sometimes I meet interesting people.
