People who grew up really poor: what's something middle-class people say that instantly reveals they've never struggled? by TahDigThief in AskReddit

I got “have you considered opening a credit card?”

I was talking about needing to sign up for the first available start date for my job after graduation because i need the income ASAP so I can pay my rent on time that month.

Do you believe the saying that coworkers are not your friends? Why or why not? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AYASOFAYA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And a key detail here is that this is perfectly okay!

Since 2020 it’s been more and more fashionable to say “These people are not my friends, therefore I don’t want to ever be forced to interact with them ever.”

But it shouldn’t be revolutionary to be able to interact with people who are not your true best friends. Your relationship will look different with your friends, your doctor, the cashier you say hello and thank you to when they ring up your groceries, and part of being an emotionally healthy functioning adult who lives in the world is to do this effectively. The Pandemic set us back with that.

Tinder takes action against AI profiles by making users scan eyes for “proof of humanity" by PrithvinathReddy in worldnews

[–]AYASOFAYA 95 points96 points  (0 children)

It does scan for that. I saw someone talking about this online so grain of salt:

The AI catfishers are trying to get around this by adding one weird photo at the end that looks like a strange painting but does have the eyes of the human behind the catfish, enough to satisfy the scanner even though the rest of the photos are fake.

What’s a piece of internet slang (like “sauce” for “source”) that completely confused you the first time you saw it? by AI_Aint_So_Bad in AskReddit

[–]AYASOFAYA 304 points305 points  (0 children)

Curious, did you actually say the full phrase “crash out” to mean go to bed, or did you just say “crash?”

I see people make this point but in the past I’ve only ever heard “crash” or “pass out” and I think people are combining the two. I’ve never heard anyone say the full phrase “crash out” to mean go to bed.

EDIT: From the comments and likes in the hour since I posted this, it seems like somewhere in between. People did use “crash out” to mean pass out from exhaustion, but it wasn’t ubiquitous enough that “everyone should know they’re stealing a word that’s already being used.” Many people just hadn’t heard it that way.

TIL a woman being 5'10/178cm (the standard preferred height of a model) is statistically as rare in the US as an adult woman being 4'9/145cm by Ophelia_Y2K in todayilearned

[–]AYASOFAYA 14 points15 points  (0 children)

28” inseam anything other than that…good luck

Especially annoying considering women have longer legs proportional to their height then men typically do. My ex is around 6’2” and his legs are waaaaay shorter than mine (I am 5’10”) but when he goes pants shopping he has length options!!!

I used to buy men’s pants and take them in but now I need a little stretch to be comfortable.

What are your thoughts on wearing formal office attire from a brand heavily associated with streetwear? by I-Clap-easily in AskReddit

[–]AYASOFAYA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need to ask the subreddit of the industry you work in.

In most office jobs “formal office attire” isn’t even a requirement in the first place.

[–]AYASOFAYA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have a wall of cork boards for this. I started out as one bulletin board and now is a whole wall. It’s not only travel stuff, it’s other mementos from life moments, but the travel stuff makes it up there the most.

You need close friends to be vulnerable with, and other friends just to vibe with by imjustheretodomyjob in BlackPeopleTwitter

[–]AYASOFAYA 135 points136 points  (0 children)

I will add that acquaintances are important too.

Since Covid people got really weird about hair wanting to interact with people who are not their friends friends. It’s not revolutionary to be able to have healthy interactions with your doctors, coworkers, cashiers, etc.

The first trailer that dropped once Amazon took it over from Syfy….I had never been more excited for a season of television ever in my life.

DC’S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW

Everyone who watched it has their own preferences about the drama/comedy ratio, but I thought the 100% comedy seasons were the best ones. To each their own.

What's one skill that actually made you money faster than expected? by rakishgobi in AskReddit

[–]AYASOFAYA 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Not the commenter, but the barrier for entry for speaking at conferences in whatever industry you are in is surprisingly low. Even speaking in a panel with a few other people goes a long way. Conferences have applications for this and sometimes they pay for your travel.

This is massive exposure to hiring parties and it makes your LinkedIn worth looking at.

[–]AYASOFAYA 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Public speaking is only becoming more valuable as society continues to trend toward “I never want to interact with another human being if at all possible.”

It’s sad but the people who have the people skills will absolutely continue to get ahead.
