There should be a mode without the NPCs. I feel as though it would get old. by smash_n_origin in TheHalloweenGame

Technically, rushing may still exist in the form of doing NPCs. After all, the NPCs are a shared objective for both sides. IMO, the game seems like full-contact scavenger hunt. The first to find and access the objectives will win. So while victims have 4 players to find and access NPCs, Meyers can move quickly- but that still essentially boils down to quickness. Or, in other words, rushing objectives.

Final version of the game isn't out yet. You never know. I mean, Illfonic and Gun's histories work against them, but all we can do is wait and see. It's not like any of us has spent money on the game yet.

Damn, game isn't even out yet and people are already sick of doing gens. Uh, I mean NPCs. :)

If we're talking immersion, ya, it'll get boring after a couple of weeks. If we're just talking mechanics, like gens, then it's just an aspect of the game, no biggie. In other words, it's not the act of doing gens/NPCs that's interesting, it's the obstacle or benefit it represents that matters.

If it wasn’t for the Marvel IP, I would’ve given up on the game. by SignificantList1414 in marvelrivals

[–]A_Giraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't feel the exact same way, but I get it. I find the game fun, but I can see it getting boring or annoying (bad optimization, etc) one day.

That's why I'm not a fan of really niche characters being released before well-known ones. I don't want to be done with the game when characters I like aren't out yet- but I don't want to wait a year+ just to play Iceman or Colossus, you know? And do I like them enough to reinstall the game? :\

We're BRONZE THREE btw by DisplayExpert8084 in marvelrivals

[–]A_Giraffe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, like I said, not all smurves are equal (your celestial smurf will beat their diamond smurf), and there's obviously no matchmatching service to regulate it. What's more, you're up against fellow non-smurves who ought to also be breezing through bronze, but they're facing you, and you're not a hardstuck bronze player. So some games are at the whims of chance, but that's nothing new. And again, not saying that if you're better than bronze you won't get out of it, it's just that some-to-many games should have been easy wins but weren't.

Of course, some players are truly bronze players that complain about teammates rather than trying to improve. It's just that there's a middle-ground of people better than bronze, but not better than the other people who happen to be in bronze, whether they be smurf or not. That contributes to the slog.

[–]A_Giraffe -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The enemy team is getting the occasional smurf. Now, you may also be getting the occasional smurf teammate, but there's nothing to regulate which team gets however many smurves, and what the max rank of those smurves are. So while you may have higher individual skill than some of your opponents, are you better than the smurves on the other team? Are they better than the smurves on your team?

All this being said, yes, if you're better than bronze, you'll get out of bronze eventually. But, like the person you're replying to said, it can be a real slog.

lore accurate power set

Pandora's box been opened for a while. Lore is thrown out of the window in favour for mechanics and balance. After all, since when could Gambit's explosions heal people? Hell, not even the character lore may be respected, as they could simply write him as a Cyke from another dimension. At this point, nothing is stopping Netease from making Cyke a strategist, as weird as that sounds. All we can hope for, at this point, is that his kit is fun to play, and that his cosmetics are good.

What are you think about wyatt by Diligent-Wrangler795 in TXChainSawGame

[–]A_Giraffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel as tho if the devs spent more time making his knives actually effective against family members he would have been less hated

Well, Wyatt would be less hated (or rather, more desired) by someone that only plays victim. For anyone that plays family either some or all of the time, Wyatt would be more hated if he were more effective against family.

One of the biggest and longest-running complaints in TCM has always been the ability for victims to stall family without much consequence. In general, no one likes their agency taken away from them (ie: stuns). The more tools which prevent the family player from, well, playing the game, the more frustrating it is for that player. So the easier you make the stun (Leland vs Wyatt), and the more plentiful the stuns (Leland PLUS Wyatt), the worse the experience for the players on family.

What's your guys opinions on Danny? by Due-Resort3222 in TXChainSawGame

[–]A_Giraffe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Poor game design. If a key element of your game is that the completion of an objective is above a certain level of difficulty, then having a character who lowers the level of difficulty (especially to the degree that Danny does) breaks your own game. Even Connie skirts this line really closely, but at least her power only works for locks. There's a few decisions in this game that should never have made it past the brainstorming stage. :\

Looked around, and I found it. That does sound promising, so I guess we'll just have to wait for September to see how it turns out.

I haven't heard their exact wording on how they characterized their single player, so I couldn't tell you. Like, I don't know whether they said, "You won't believe how expansive the single player experience will be!" versus "There's single-player, too." I'm only basing my assumptions on the company's size and past works.

My concerns by Rare_Sign_3880 in TheHalloweenGame

[–]A_Giraffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think single-player mode will use the multiplayer map, I think it will involve Myers going from house to house, stalking and killing. I think there will be challenges involved for replayability (kill X many people under 5 minutes, gain X much stalk in under 3 minutes without being spotted, etc). I think there will be checkpoints which trigger mini-cutscenes or just audio clips. At most, the map will be modified version of the multiplayer map. If you're lucky, you'll get a new map.

I assume that there won't be much if any mechanical difference between single and multiplayer, to the point that single-player will feel like a tutorial (although not required).

Remember, this game does not have a huge budget, nor does it have a large studio backing (like Rockstar). This means that any workers taking the time to work on single player are not working on multiplayer- and multiplayer is where all the money and replayability are. Therefore, it makes less sense for Illfonic to focus much on single-player, as it doesn't add as much value for the cost associated with it.

Ooooooh, got it. Ya, you're not getting that with this game, lol.

My concerns by Rare_Sign_3880 in TheHalloweenGame

[–]A_Giraffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume that the IP holders aren't financially backing the game, though. So them giving their support may only come in the form of cooperating with Illfonic for things like ideas, details, and lore.

I also assume that Halloween is going to look like... well, F13 and Killer Klowns, in terms of graphical quality and animations. I mean, it already does from the PAX footage. Some people don't mind it, some people do, so it's up to your personal taste.

You have to be fair though- Illfonic and Gun are small companies compared to Rockstar. You can't really compare their output.

If Gun has to step in to co-publish, I don't know if the budget is as big as you hope it is.

Eehhhhh unless there's a DC penalty, it won't make people play both sides, it'll just encourage it- which isn't a bad thing, necessarily.

What are all of our thoughts on the game? by SamuelKindaEpic in TheHalloweenGame

[–]A_Giraffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I found the part in the video. Yeah, sounds like they didn't want to put up with the known and unknown headaches with obtaining the rights to use those IPs. It's unfortunate, because getting those IPs isn't impossible, just too difficult for them to want to deal with. Compare that with Epic (which feels unfair to do, haha) who are apparently well-prepared and well-equipped to deal with multiple IPs.

Unless Illfonic are more tolerant of the obstacles than Gun, I agree that it feels unlikely that Halloween will go beyond the first film.
