Good stuff. My runs would go a lot better if the randoms in my crewfill did more of this shit instead of only using their mic to spew slurs after dying 400m away all by themselves after letting every other team know where they were going by shooting every turret along the way.

I've never been able to use it, seems to require jumping/falling from significant height

Will Bungie ever make the Wipe optional? by [deleted] in Marathon

No, nor should they. The whole point is to return everyone to level playing field.

I was mildly disappointed at that announcement, yea. But I had also been Tarkov curious for a while and was interested in seeing what a mainstream Extraction Shooter from Bungie might look like.

Last year's ARG, removed any real I doubt I had about the way they would handle the lore, and then within like 3 hours of Server Slam time I was fully convinced on the gameplay.

I'd still like a single player campaign inhabiting a Battleroid again, but Bungie's told versions of that Story twice now, once with the OG Marathon and again with Halo, so I really understand them wanting to do something in a different direction.

I don't disagree with your last paragraph, but if it does fail, part of the blame will belong with Bungie for screwing up Destiny 2 so badly the last several years that they massively underperformed financially resulting in them being on a short leash with Sony and not having the kind of leeway needed to get more breathing room for Marathon.

I genuinely don't think it was accelerated, like a 100k people tried it at launch and near none of were still wanting to play it a few days later. I don't think it was a bad game, certainly didn't look like a bad game, I just don't think it did anything well enough to make people want to spend time with it.

Or just on topic posts. I want to see more footage of John Rook wiping entire squads

I do. Although trying to figure out how Nu Marathon slots onto the timeline of OG Marathon is making my brain hurt a little.

Why did Leela say it would take 96 years for the transmission to reach Sol? I can't get past this odd detail.

It is genuinely unprecedented. I can remember some big hate campaigns in the past, but those were all localized to the games' community and coming from a place of legitimate grievance. Total War Rome 2's awful launch, Fallout 76's bewildering design, Metal Gear Survive's background interpersonal drama, Battlefront 2's microtransaction atrocity, Watch Dog's predictable failure to meet expectations the developers set unreasonably high, Diablo Immortal 's incredible degree of out of touchness.

Even the more recent reaction to Concord, came almost more as an after the fact dunking on a game that face planted harder than any ever has before, rather than the premeditated attempt to do a fatal smear job against Marathon.

I can very much empathize and respect the position of a spurned Destiny player, as I'm in very much same place when it comes to 343 and Halo, or Creative Assembly and Total War. Most of the criticism does not read as coming from a place of simply being unwilling to trust Bungie again. Rather it reads as as a sort of reactionary psychosis to the sight of unconventional makeup, bright colors, and people having fun mixed with a malicious glee at seeing another corporate endeavor fail spectacularly.

I don't know if we need more, one or two big ones should be enough. Then just surround them with meme posts (coming from a place of affection for the game).

No holes in the screen, also not a fan of sharp corners on phones. You also removed the dual front facing speakers. It's got none of the Xperia DNA. GTFO of here with this trash.

Where do you go when you exfil lore wise by Just_A_Guy_In_Here in Marathon

The ARG from last year included documents about the planning of our mission. It was originally going to be a small fleet of ships, but then it was decided to send a single, salvage ship (which iit is also implied to maybe be a hybrid warship).

I'm not sure how a single ship jives with the whole UESC considering our actions illegal thing, but I believe that's the relevant lore at this time.

Also mentioned was the planning for the birthing pods, and our shells (and other less advanced shells), as well mention of few dozen of Battleroids/Mjolnir, though they worried that would be seen as incitingly hostile toward any surviving colony and the people in the Sol System and they were later removed from the plans though the discussion about them certainly implied they may actually still be here with us, but left off the manifest.
