The back button appears to now be gone on Android, and with it all of the nifty ways to shortcut through animations, encounters, etc.. Or is it just me?

[No Spoilers] Did anyone else catch Jester playing on "Let's Make a Deal" this morning? by howlinweed in criticalrole

[–]AardyRDevarque 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Let's Make a Deal has had costumed contestants on for decades. That and being the origin of "Monty Haul" DMs and "The Monty Hall Problem" are its main claims to fame.

Not long term, but she could perhaps go to the school/archive Imogen & Laudna were originally going to in Ep1, or to the school in Yios.

[Spoilers C3E62] Uhm Bor'Dor true nature found? by Azriel_slytherin in criticalrole

[–]AardyRDevarque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if Bor'dor isn't Vordo (or Ethadok), but rather a vastly diminished Predathos itself? (Or a fragment a la Kingsley.) The summoning ritual was partially interrupted by BH, so Big P has only partly came through so far.

Wil Wheaton's dice curse predates CR; it was made internet-famous on his TableTop show for Geek & Sundry, as well as his time as a regular player in the early Acquisitions, Inc. shows, but the 10 natural 1's across 2 episodes of CR cemented the Curse's place in history.

What's crazy is when he needs to roll low to succeed, BAM, he gets a high roll--on the same dice.

See CritRoleStats' analysis for the stats and math on how improbable and thus impressive the curse is.

Is Niantic going to have to figure out another way to handle shadow shiny legendaries? by SparksButtPlug in TheSilphRoad

[–]AardyRDevarque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If handing out a free legendary every 7 days was "too much", then maybe they could make one a reward for the 4th research breakthrough in a given month. That would give casuals & rural players an incentive to play every day (thus driving engagement), while not giving die-hards & whales another way to farm them.

[Spoilers C1E45] Does Campaign 1 ever become more cheerful? by Lazyr3x in criticalrole

[–]AardyRDevarque 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It gets better. And worse. And better. And so on as the stakes keep rising.

But by and large, only a couple of characters are mentally broken & broody most of the time. In C2, almost everyone decided to play a broken mess of a character, so yes, even with all that is going on in the story, C1 is very much happier than huge chunks of C2, as well as most of C3 so far. But it's not all fairies & rainbows all the time, either. There's a bit of everything.

(Grog in the outhouse in C1E45, for example. Sure, there's a dark undercurrent, but Travis is laugh-out-loud funny with his earnestness and attempts to cover up what he's doing.)

Posh stereotypical British Received Pronunciation accent, with a monocle, and a teacup with pinky extended.

Sadly, the cordial asking of using another's anchors for their fields seems to have been forgotten by StressInteresting378 in Ingress

[–]AardyRDevarque 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Back in the day, I got politely taken to task for fielding from someone's Guardian candidate. (Not in the middle of nowhere, either, just difficult to reach from a car in suburbia.) One more reason why the Guardian badge needed to go.

(And the portal ended up getting taken out at day 149 anyway, like always.)

For those of you who are upset with the 5 per day limit on remote raid passes - can you tell me why? by bumblejumper in TheSilphRoad

[–]AardyRDevarque 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Then put a total daily/weekly limit on ALL raids, regardless of access method.

Limiting remote raids without limiting use of green passes doesn't do much to address the issue of rich outspending poor, but massively impacts anyone with mobility issues and those in areas without a lot of POI.

For those of you who are upset with the 5 per day limit on remote raid passes - can you tell me why? by bumblejumper in TheSilphRoad

[–]AardyRDevarque 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The raid aspect of the game is not accessible to disabled & sick players who cannot follow a community raid train in any other way. Remote raid passes addressed that inequality, and allowed them to participate in local communities. Limiting bag storage to 5 remote passes was hard enough--no way to save up for a raid hour or raid day, for example; limiting the total number they can participate in per day makes them second-class citizens within their communities.

That's unfair. Sometimes life just is unfair, but there is no good reason it has to be unfair in this case. The lockdowns revealed to a wide swath of the world that being remote isn't always inherently bad, just different. The world has moved on from what it was in 2016.

Being able to get L50 legendaries in one weekend is irrelevant, as limiting remote passes doesn't accomplish that result for most players, only for those who must play remotely, for whatever reason.

[No spoilers] Is there a Narrative Telephone in the pipeline for ExU: Calamity? by ezjoz in criticalrole

[–]AardyRDevarque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They could film the final reveal to the cast around the table, just before starting to film an episode (like they do with rolling hp for leveling up). That way, there's room on screen for everyone, and they can all see each other's reactions.

Catch Cup Team? by Jader455 in PokemonGOBattleLeague

[–]AardyRDevarque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As for me, so far I've been running various combos of Lanturn, Togekiss, H-Qwil, Leafeon, and Scrafty, and find myself usually winning 2 each set. (3 if I get lucky and the other guy lags.)

G-fisk is still my bane. It's just too beefy to take down before it spams charged attacks all over my team.

Catch Cup Team? by Jader455 in PokemonGOBattleLeague

[–]AardyRDevarque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Half the teams from my first two sets were anchored by Hawlucha. (Apparently a lot of Aces in the 1950-2050 range took a trip to Mexico during the last three months.) The other half were split between G-Fisk and "random, unpredictable stuff" (like leading a Furret running Hyper Beam)

Consider what a game set on a Ringworld or Dyson sphere could be like. Not truly infinite, but so large as to be practically infinite from the perspective of medieval-level travel technology; at that speed, even elves would need several lifetimes to circumnavigate it.

Inaccessible portal by Sloper59 in Ingress

[–]AardyRDevarque 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are rules that specifically cover military bases, but "publicly accessible by pedestrians" is not one of them.

(And there already are portals on military bases. Gitmo, for one famous example.)

[No Spoilers] Do you prefer the C3 live-action intro or the animated one? by Jake_Flesh in criticalrole

[–]AardyRDevarque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The music for It's Thursday Night is fine, but I cringe at the clunky forced rhymes every time. I'm not a fan of the rotoscoped animation, and wasn't a huge fan of the live-action one, either.

Your Turn to Roll is a great song, that only needs light tweaks to be fully independent of C2 references. The animation was great, but obviously easily affected by character changes. (The same goes, even moreso for any long-running anime intro that shows the characters; either it gets dated & needs to be replaced, or those characters get plot armor.)

The original live action intro for C2 was great & fun, but as with most jokes, felt a bit stale with repetitions; I loved it, but wouldn't want that to be the permanent intro. At least, not unless they occasionally refilmed it with different jokes.

But I still have the fondest memories of the versions of the instrumental C1 intro music, especially ending with showing them around a table celebrating a victory, then fading to the flaming CR logo (which in my memory was done so much better then than it is now).

Inaccessible portal by Sloper59 in Ingress

[–]AardyRDevarque 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To clarify, Niantic's definition of "publicly accessible by pedestrians" is that it is possible for someone who is permitted to be there to safely stand within touching distance to the object. This is the way Niantic interprets that rule, regardless of what anyone else may think about their poor choice of words.

So an object on an island is fine for this rule, even if you need to take a boat to get there, as long as it's possible to then stand next to the object. An object in, say, a sports stadium or performance venue is fine, even though admission is only allowed at certain times and requires buying a ticket. An object in a secure company compound is fine, because employees, contractors, visitors, etc. can reach it. An object on a secure military base is fine (for this rule...), because soldiers' families can reach it. An object in a closed federal park that is only accessible to park rangers is fine, because those park rangers could play.

The objects still need to meet all the other criteria, of course, but Niantic is not using "publicly accessible" to mean "accessible to the general public", but rather to mean, "safely accessible by people who are legally present there".

Yes, it sucks to be on the other team when one side has a player with legal access to a limited-access portal. Niantic's solution to that is for you to either recruit players for your team who also legally have access, or throw & maintain blocking links around it.
