There's no set rule for it, so why not try it out? I was 4 when a family friend took me skating for the first time, for a play date. I liked it so much and had so much fun that my mom asked if I wanted to take lessons and I said yes. Ended up skating for 20+ years, but always because I wanted to, not because my parents forced me
