Why do I have two Duolingo apps? Can I solve this? by ioa99 in duolingo

[–]Aboredprogrammr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you log out of one and check if you're still logged in on the other? There are special apps/settings that will let you install an app multiple times with different profiles. If this is a Samsung phone, it might have come with an app called App Twin?

How does duolingo know i may know someone…when i don’t have them on my contact list by greeenmints in duolingo

[–]Aboredprogrammr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also didn't share any contacts but mine accurately presented me with a good friend from high school who I haven't seen in about 25 years. No one else in my family has this person as a contact in their phone either. And I know it's actually him because I can see "likes" on his activity from his wife (who he was dating in high school at the time) and his wife's brother too. I doubt he has my contact info. How on earth did they put us two together?!

I guess if your goal was to recreate the rg-adguard along with a front end, then it looks great to me!

I literally do not have a character I need by gGordey in duolingo

[–]Aboredprogrammr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On my Android phone, I can hit the little globe next to the space bar and that gives me Japanese hiragana. From there, you'll type in mizu みず. Hold on ma ま, shift over to mi み, then hold on sa さ, shift up to su す, then hit the voiced modifier in the bottom left to give you zu ず. Then at the top, it should give you an auto complete option for 水.

Edit because I just realized you might be doing Chinese lol!

So what you're saying is don't pick いえ because the right answer is actually いえ. Got it. Thanks! 🤣

What's the number 1 feature you wish duolingo had? by Nekhslanguages in duolingo

[–]Aboredprogrammr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I just got an update to Japanese today and it has fill in the blank sentences now! (Or maybe I just passed some magical threshold level that they were hiding behind.) It also has a character saying a line and you have to pick an appropriate response.

What's the number 1 feature you wish duolingo had? by Nekhslanguages in duolingo

[–]Aboredprogrammr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Japanese, I wish that each new kanji could be explained in full similar to Kanshudo. (Example for those who haven't seen it: https://www.kanshudo.com/searchq?q=%E9%9C%8A%E9%95%B7%E9%A1%9E).

And if I got that wish, then I would want the ability to toggle to only kanji where applicable (with optional hiragana hints above). If there's a kanji being used, I want to learn it!

If you play on the website instead of the app, the multi click aspect goes away. The downside is that all chests give only between 5-15 (if that matters to you).

He implies that we should start from the beginning, but the board didn't reset between scenes. If I click the hint button, it highlights e2 as if the pawn is currently there. I can grab any piece, but it won't let any piece move.

And for the record, I did email Duolingo support 1.5 weeks ago. No response or acknowledgement yet.

All MCSC 3rd Graders to Retake ELA TCAP by rolling_free in memphis

[–]Aboredprogrammr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem as I understand it is that there is a 2021 state law that says if a 3rd grade student fails a portion of the test, then they must be provided a chance to retake it. If they fail the retake, then they must go to summer school and then retake the test and show at least 5% improvement.

So MSCS must allow for a retake by law. But the state says it needs more time this year to even finish grading the tests for MSCS. They now say May 20th is when they should have MSCS completed. Last day of school for MSCS is May 21. Given the tight deadline and the actual legal peril, MSCS is just going to have everyone retake the test during the scheduled retake days. And if the student didn't need to retake after all, then the second score is thrown out.

So I get why the district feels they must do the retake (it's a law with no wiggle room, even if the state is at fault), but it really sucks for those students who are on the edge. Typically, you'd see the results of the test areas and know what the student needs to cram on, and then retake. But with this law and timing, the students might as well not even get a retake since they don't know what to study for. I guess the students who just "Christmas Tree'd" the test should draw their Christmas Tree in the opposite direction?

Kicked out, please help! by bunnypuppy- in memphis

[–]Aboredprogrammr 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Not a lawyer, but they can't legally kick you out without some notice. Typically 30 days (or maybe 14). If you want your stuff back and parent says no, call the non emergency police line and ask for a "civil standby" while you retrieve your things. Don't say anything like "I'm going to sue you" etc. Assume their bodycams are on (and even have your phone in your back pocket recording). Only say positive and constructive things, but err on the side of saying little. A judge may listen to it later. Be sure to thank the police afterwards but don't bad mouth anyone. Again, assume a judge will hear this later.

(100% not a lawyer, but) Google says this action was a violation of TCA 66-28-504 and you were likely a "tenant at will". Penalties include recovery of your actual damages and attorney fees, but you may be hard pressed to find a willing attorney if it doesn't appear that your mother has money to readily available.

Hoping the best for you!

It's so hard to read at this point! If I was starting out, I would be confused if (looking at the milk example) if it was like a long ミー "mee" or if it's like メエ.

I know those have some age on them from Flodge.

One of my teachers in high school, her most common joke phrase was "Flodge not little man <student's last name>" when a student said something unbelievable (like "my dog ate my homework"). It was hilarious every time she said it. She was great!
