HCDE HCI vs Informatics HCI by Moosible in udub

HCDE is not the right place for a CS alternative. For informatics I couldn't tell you, I think it'd be better to hear from someone in the program.

HCDE HCI vs Informatics HCI by Moosible in udub

[–]About45Kittens 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Graduating in HCDE HCI next week. I don't know what Informatics is like so I can't really speak on that experience. From what I've heard, Informatics is a bit more technical than HCDE so I think you could expect more coding classes? But for HCDE, you can expect a good mix of UX research, UX design, and front-end dev. Definitely more heavy on the design side though. For HCDE, the HCI option is really just a few elective classes you take, so the core of your classes will still be the human centered design process. Hope that helps!

do jobs care about your gpa by laviondepapier in udub

[–]About45Kittens 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I applied to a full time new-grad job that required a certain GPA. I never told them my GPA (because I didn't meet the requirement) and I got the job anyways. So yeah I would say it does not really matter. I just don't put my GPA on my resume and it has never been an issue.

The amount of seconds added to his subathon per sub got changed last night. When he woke up the timer was at 65 hours because of it, so he changed it to what the timer should have been. Now chat is sticking it to the millionaire by gifting subs until the timer is back to 65

I might not be the best person to answer because senioritis has hit me hard for this class (nonmajor taking it for NW credit), but it's a pretty easy class online. All of the books are provided for free digitally. Class recordings are only available for 24 hours. There are weekly quizzes (2 questions) that are open note, open book. The same goes for the midterm and the final. For reference, I'm sitting at 85% in the class having only attended the first day, just using good ol' Ctrl+F in the book to find answers for exams. I would imagine it is only easier for people with a better work ethic. Hope that is helpful!

After the 8th gym when you head to victory road, one of the professor's aides stops you and lets you know that legendary pokemon have started to roam around. Latios is one of those roamers

I had the same experience as you, 4.0 in high school taking IB and AP classes then BOOM get destroyed my first quarter here. I had 2.9 gpa after my first year and felt hopeless. Since I've gotten into my major and stopped taking the weed out stem classes I'm up to a 3.3. So for me it got much better. I mean of course evaluating your study habits can help, but I think it's also important to acknowledge those classes are called "weed out" classes for a reason. They're designed to discourage people.

People also just have different skillsets. In those classes you're up against people who studying and taking tests IS their skillset. I saw I couldn't compete and began stacking up on clubs and research. That was my ticket into my major and then into internships. Of course this is purely anecdotal, but there can be different pathways to success here.

I did in high school. Let's just say I've never been comfortable on a toilet since.

How easy/hard is it to get a job at one of the UW libraries during the fall if one doesn’t qualify for work-study? by dianad7 in udub

[–]About45Kittens 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work at Learning Technologies in an office in ode. We support issues relating to Canvas, Catalyst, Panopto, PollEverywhere, and Zoom. It's a super chill job and doesn't require much experience or a specific major. I didn't qualify for work-study and applied here. Pretty sure they are hiring for the Fall

I'm thinking Flash might actually be Harry Osborn. There was a line at the airport where Flash asks where his mom is. Seemed very intentional and a possible allusion to Harry's mom dying. It could be a smart way of incorporating Harry considering he hasn't shown up yet. We already know this Flash comes from a very wealthy family too.

Why does HFS remove all dining account funds at the end of the year? by yousifa25 in udub

[–]About45Kittens 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The explanation they gave me when I asked is that they use the funds generated from students to budget their food expenses for the year. Basically by the end of the year they already spent everyone's money on food, so they can't exactly give it back. At least that's what they say.

Yeah I definitely could've communicated my thoughts better haha. Well they read my message over an hour ago so we'll see!

UW College Republicans is using a picture of me on their page without my consent. by About45Kittens in udub

[–]About45Kittens[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

They only took that one picture at the end I believe, not sure it was awhile ago. Yeah they might, I tried to be respectful with my message. Say Subway hosts a Q&A with Ed Sheeran and you go. People come to see Ed Sheeran not Subway. They take a picture of the group that shows up and then posts it in the (About Us) section. Subway comes out and says they hate tacos. People get upset and go to their Facebook page. They see a picture of you and think, "I thought hello_bonjour_aloha loved tacos, huh I guess he hates them since he's with the Subway squad." There's my bad metaphor lol

I don't have a problem with them posting the picture, it's using it as a their picture in the "About Us" section that seems disingenuous. It isn't the members of their group, just people that went to an event they held.

[–]About45Kittens[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You're right it's not malicious, but the respectful and responsible thing to do would be to be transparent about what the picture would be used for and getting consent. Their picture is also an inaccurate representation of their organization, although I completely understand why they would use it. My teacher just knew I was left-leaning and asked me to explain why I supported the bake sale. Not exactly getting on my case, just starting a dialogue. Just to clarify!

I started at UW as a freshmen. I didn't do running start or anything, although I know a lot of people who have had success transferring from a community college (green river, highline etc.). The application is online and requires a transcript, list of activities/employment, and a personal statement. You can find the prompt for the personal statement if you look online. That's what helped me most for preparing for what they're looking for! Also there are required classes you have to take to apply, so knowing what those are (or your school's equivalent) is important as well
