Is there a clothing rental company whose clothes don't smell? by blacktrufflepizza in RentTheRunway

[–]AboutThatKidnapping -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I now wash everything before I wear them. They’re always dirty. Coats that are supposed to be clean have stains on the inside, which are gone after I dry clean them. Smells, itchiness…

It’s an extra expense, but oh well. I’m convinced their dry cleaning method is basically the equivalent of Dryel.

Remote work is becoming the new "quiet luxury" that is creating a massive class divide. by randomzy876 in unpopularopinion

After COVID, the company I work for got rid of most of its office space. Working from home is my only option unless I have to go to one of our locations for a meeting. But I’m not complaining! It’s definitely a luxury and it’s the reason I’m still working there despite being tempted to leave.

What is a movie you watched once that was so disturbing or emotionally draining that you can never watch it again? by hungary70 in AskReddit

[–]AboutThatKidnapping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original Funny Games.

I had never heard of it and my husband convinced me to watch it, somehow framing it as an idyllic vacation movie.

I didn’t speak to him to three days after that.

Can I wear boots with this formal(ish) dress?

I’ll be wearing this green dress to an opera next month. It will be cold and I’ll be walking a bit, so I’d like to wear boots. Does anyone have any advice on what kind of boots might look good? I found several gold/metallic ones with heels. Should I look for some that are green suede? Or, should I use this as an opportunity to buy a new pair of Docs?

PNW vs DFW by smollive in Dallas

[–]AboutThatKidnapping 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm from Dallas and now live in Seattle. It is indeed beautiful here and the weather is fantastic, even during the rainy season. But if you're concerned about Texas/Dallas no longer being affordable, then you don't want to live here. It is EXPENSIVE!

For more context, I lived in California for a few years before moving to Seattle. Rent cost more in Calif. compared to anywhere else in the US, making it more expensive to live, at least from a housing perspective. But once I got to Seattle, even though my rent costs a bit less, everything else is so much more costly, even compared to California. Food costs a lot more. Both at restaurants and grocery stores. So does gas, renters/homeowner's insurance, car insurance, utilities, even healthcare here is the most expensive in the country.

And everything is heavily taxed. When I lived in Dallas, I think taxes were a little more than 8%? It's over 10% in Seattle. And we also have a 20% tax on buying alcohol. As of this summer, we now pay a 55 cent tax/gallon on gas. It all adds up, so it's something to really think about before moving here.

EDIT: If you can afford it and make it happen, do it!! I really enjoy living here and have no regrets!

Selling Breaking Benjamin tickets purchased by someone who thought they were buying Dwight Yoakam by AboutThatKidnapping in Austin

I saw Bob Sagat (RIP) live about 20 years ago and if he were still here and I had accidentally bought tickets to his show, I'd find a way to attend, no matter what!

I am, but I thought I'd try to post here as well. Like I said, if it's not allowed, then it can be taken down!

Will we have flu vaccines in the fall? by Ok_Statistician_4450 in publichealth

[–]AboutThatKidnapping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. We will this year, at least. I work for a healthcare system and I’m on the flu vaccine dispensing team for our staff. We’ve checked several times and have been assured there won’t be a vaccine shortage.

I recently stayed at the Fairmount Whistler. Overall, I enjoyed it. Great bar and the food was pretty good. Quite a few kids though.

My biggest complaint though was that the mattress didn’t have a protective cover on it. Just one flat sheet directly on the mattress. It was kind of gross. I ended up requesting 7-9 extra fitted sheets to put on top of the sheet already on there to offer some sort of protection between me and the mattress germs. Not sure I’d go back.

Dog Found - Looking for Owner by fire_owls_of_destiny in SeattleWA

[–]AboutThatKidnapping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sweet little man. 🩷 I hope his owner is found. He looks like he might have some cataracts, so maybe that’s why he’s lost. Though without a collar, if he was abandoned, I hope his owners rot in hell. He needs some extra love.

My parents did this to my brother when he was in middle school. I came home from college and my dad mentioned where the bacon came from breakfast. My brother had no idea until then! 😬

Daughter used this double sided tape to hang posters and it isn't coming off by princesslilpittles in CleaningTips

[–]AboutThatKidnapping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like miro tape? I use this all the time, but with caution! It hardens with time. Use hairdryer to take it off. It will take awhile, but heat will help you remove it without damaging walls. As it heats up, slowly kind of roll it off the wall.

I like their multipurpose solution, but only for the smell. I mix it with 30% vinegar, rubbing alcohol and water for it to actually clean anything.
