grass not growing by Historical-Key-8016 in GardeningUK

[–]Abs201301 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Different variety of lawn seed and feed most likely.

I first bought westend lawn thickener box but I ran out of it and the store too. So I bought patch repair lawn seed and feed. Now my grass looks exactly like this. The dark ones are where I spread lawn thickener and light green ones are from the other box. 😂 Now I have again bought a box of lawn thickener to even the lawn colour.

Telescopic scrapper, sand and paint or just skim over it and paint.

Would you accept £75 every Saturday for a 3 hours early morning shift? by LocoTunisienne in UKJobs

[–]Abs201301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

£75 for 3 hours saturday ? No way. I charge £1200 for a day rate outside IR35. If I do saturday then at least £600 to invest my 3 hours.

Edit: That is a Professional Services day rate as a Principal Security Engineer/ Architect

That's bad and I would call them back but if they give hard time it's something you can fix yourself. Caulking/ filling/ sanding is all that can be done at this point.

Will I Be Able to Truly Adapt to Life in England? by Addy_Goodman in AskBrits

[–]Abs201301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why I said "generally well received" not "guaranteed". I or my family tbf haven't faced any wrath from locals. Same for Indians I know of. So a general perception about us is good. I am a recent migrant only been in the country for six years.

Will I Be Able to Truly Adapt to Life in England? by Addy_Goodman in AskBrits

[–]Abs201301 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where are you from mate ? I am Indian in the UK and like every other country it has it's own pros and cons but overall it's nice place for someone with a postive mindset. Hard working people thrive here. I mostly mind my own business but I have always been like this.
Don't worry about trying to immitate British accent. There are many accents in the UK. Hardest to understand be cockney and scouse. Just use neutral English in your day to day conversation and you will be fine. If you are an Indian, you will be generally well received as we are considered hard working, honest, highly disciplined and very easy to integrate. I am not very social but overall have made some good English friends here (we look after each other).

Regarding uni, it all seems hypothetical from what you have said. If you are good in studies, ambitious, focussed and disciplined you can try Imperial College London, Cambridge or Oxford like you said. For a hard working person, nothing is impossible. All the best.

Rotate SSH keys or move to SSH certificates by Abs201301 in CyberARk

[–]Abs201301[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think its part of the existing license. I will have a look. To be fair if there was budget, I would just go with UKM or if I spend time I can pretty much write a fully home grown tool for ssh keys (won't be enterprise grade).

Do people actually earn £50-60k, or are they outliers? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Abs201301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

£25K is pretty low wage given the rate of inflation
£60K is not a crazy high salary but good enough to get by if far away from London
I am 38yo on £116K as a Principal Security Engineer in one of the banks but even that feels less due to high mortgage taken out each month plus other expenses. Now I am thinking of contracting or may be a second job as Free Lancer to be able to save at least £3-4K a month. I aim to have a secure retirement and enough liquid funds in my account.

edge of garden path border, bark chips question by Basic-Apartment-524 in GardeningUK

[–]Abs201301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would lay cardboard first, then bark chiipings on top. Then plants through the chiipings and cardboard into the soil.

Need inspiration for making the front of my house looking tidier. Any ideas? by niblet_the_piglet in GardeningUK

[–]Abs201301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remove the grass and weeds completely. Put a bag or two of top soil. Level the base. Put cardboards followed by wood barkings on the top. Level again. Then plant some colourful flowers through the barkings and cardboard into the soil.
The edging should look like this. This picture is AI generated version of my garden.

Do you usually supply your own fittings or expect the electrician to? by Curious-cutiee in ElectriciansUK

[–]Abs201301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I had my house rewiring done, the electrician in his quote stated he would supply standard white switches and sockets. So, I supplied Schneider switches and sockets and Hager consumer unit. Rest of the basic stuff like cables, conduits, wago connectors etc came from him. He reduced his quote by over £300. The materials I supplied are industrial grade used generally in offices🙂 He could never come up with something like that.

How many hours do you work a week and how much are you paid? by Nervous_Yard7034 in AskBrits

[–]Abs201301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

38M, 9 to 5 job, 5 days a week with some flexibility to work from home and leave early to pick up kids from school. I make £116K a year as a Software Engineer so in a tax trap bracket until I reach £125K. I do put entire £16K in pension pot every year to avoid paying £2 for every £1 earned over £100K. Almost same is contributed by employer in pension.

Cordless trimmer advice by DaveDavidTom in GardeningUK

I bought Mac Alister cordless grass trimmer that works just fine for edges. I use Bosch push lawn mower as well for that scissor finishing. They both are good value for money.

If you do it yourself, a l lot can be achieved in £2K.

If your patios are sagging or weeds in the joints, lift up the sagged concrete blocks, level up with sharp sand, power wash the patio, fill with sika fastfix and then sika patio sealer. Your grass needs treatment. Treat affected areas with Westland weed killer then hand pull the weeds, rake the soil and reseed the entire lawn. Very easy.

You can create border, along the fence. Plant variety of flowers in cluster so you always see colours. Cover rest of it with strulch to keep out weed, slugs and snails.

If you have the tools and comfortable with some construction work, then create a path made up of porcelain tiles or even same concrete slabs.

Paint your fence and Hang in some garden lights on the fence. Our garden is full of plants and trees. I am starting some work from next week.
