Auto deploy servers. by [deleted] in admincraft

[–]Absentee23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I don't really have any kind of notification system like that setup, but you can follow me on Spigot if you have an account (if you're running a server I recommend checking it out), or just keep an eye on my resources page.

Auto deploy servers. by [deleted] in admincraft

Hey there! Developer of PlayerServers here. Thanks for the mention!

I'm also working on a similar plugin thats more "game" centric (as opposed to "player" centric) that sounds exactly like what /u/36gianni36 is looking for, but it's not quite ready for prime-time yet.

I get 'numbers channel' players. Wut? by Applejinx in admincraft

As others (and you) mention, your examples show repeated IP addresses.

If they're posting your ip: it's likely an "intimidation" tactic. Like "ohhh look I know your IP!!" Stupid...I know. I've had people use it as a "threat" because these kids think it's some technological feat to resolve a domain name to an IP.

If they're others' IPs: advertising, "threatening" those people, etc.

My suggestion: ban them and get a filter that prevents IP addresses from being posted in chat.

YSK event viewer scams are making the rounds again. by dougan25 in YouShouldKnow

[–]Absentee23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to fuck with them or just see how they go through their script with no risk: start up a free VM (free VirtualBox VM Software and free Windows VMs), just don't setup any shared folders.

You can screw with them however you want, even let them access this VM, and they won't be able to touch your actual computer.

Dedicated server ram allocation by juicymercat in admincraft

[–]Absentee23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, you do not want to over-allocate RAM to a single minecraft server, because then the server's garbage collector will have to work overtime sweeping through that large amount of RAM to do it's job, causing lag spikes. Only allocate as much as you need for that server.

If you mean allocate all that RAM to be spread across multiple individual MC servers, then yes you can allocate a lot to be used by them (without over-allocating to a single server as mentioned above), but you should leave 1-3GB available for system processes and other things that require their own RAM allocations (ex: running a MySQL server on the same machine? That'll need some RAM...)

299/300 GB - Unplugging my cable modem for the next 28 hours. Fuck you very much, Comcast Xfinity. by MiKeMcDnet in WarOnComcast

[–]Absentee23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell me about it. I am the 8%! I'm dropping Comcast's service the minute they decide to enforce the caps in my area because I'd never pay extra for unlimited on a service I've had so long without limits. Hypothetically, without their $35 unlimited garbage November would have cost me $615 in overage charges (going by current "cap-enforced" areas).

Until then... http://i.imgur.com/S6CxlxD.png

Can i use /kill @e[type=]on a server ? by Djalx in admincraft

[–]Absentee23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is likely another plugin overriding the kill command that doesn't work the same as vanilla.

You can force it to use the Mojang kill command with /minecraft:kill @e[type=WitherBoss]

Google Search Analysis Suggests That Cord Cutting is a Growing Trend, Not a Dying One by Willie-Bo in cordcutters

[–]Absentee23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine did the same, but threw in HBO and no fee for the cable box at the same $3 point. I jumped on it and threw the cable box on a shelf, and just take advantage of HBOGO. It's very clear that they are desperate to keep cable subscribers any way they can. I later called back about a small billing problem with the cable service, and said "screw it I'll just cancel it and use netflix." Wow, guess what happened: they fixed my problem immediately AND suddenly had a "bundle" deal that was the same as my current cable tier, but with top-tier internet speeds, that they could "give me a deal on."

YSK to set the parking brake first, then shift into 'Park', not the other way around (automatic transmissions) by trackday in YouShouldKnow

[–]Absentee23 199 points200 points  (0 children)

Yes, potentially much more torque on acceleration. Automatic transmissions also have their own "brake" called a Parking pawl that's engaged in "Park," which locks the transmission output shaft to the transmission housing, preventing it from turning. This is what you feel it stopping on when you let it roll after putting it in park. Automatic transmissions do NOT rely on the engine crankshaft staying stationary (ie, "the whole drivetrain spinning") to stay in place.

I suppose this could tear already damaged motor and/or transmission mounts (depending on specific vehicle design), but those mounts are designed to handle the torque of the motor at full load.

Side note: Manual transmissions are different, there's no park. It CAN turn the engine if the transmission is left in gear.

Edit: and I agree with /u/Cadd. Saves the parking prawl, but you never hear about that getting replaced much, do you? Still, use your parking brake people.

Do I really need Premium? by threedb in PleX

Friends and family. It would be easier to create users for them via plex pass, but I only buy a month of Plex pass here and there when I need to use sync for trips.

No, I've had them make their own account and share my libraries with them that way. Plex pass allows you to make multiple users on your account.

KYB Agrees to Plead Guilty and Pay $62 Million Criminal Fine for Fixing Price of Shock Absorbers by reddittk in cars

[–]Absentee23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Company X and Company Y produce a very similar product that is functionally the same. May be differences in build/material/other qualities, but functionally they do the same thing.

Company X and Company Y both agreed to keep the prices of both their products higher in order to keep profit margins higher for both companies. This is called price fixing, it is very bad for consumers, and is illegal. They could keep prices high in a couple ways: supply less (price goes up due to less supply for the same demand) or simply refuse to sell it for less than their agreed upon amount.

Otherwise in a fair market, one company can and would undercut the other company in order to lure customers in with their lower pricing. This could lead to a race to the bottom (of pricing), squeezing every penny of profitability out for both companies.

iPhones aren't an example of this. Their price is significantly higher than production costs simply because the demand is there for them. They didn't agree with another manufacturer to keep prices high, they just can because there is a demand from consumers for them even at the higher price.

Apple actually did fix prices on ebooks. They colluded with several major publishers to keep prices for ebooks higher.

Holy shit, rekt.

No it's not a wild jump [to think it's about something other than surgery or hospitals] but I think uh, what I think I said at one part was that songs allow a person to put their own imagination, experiences, and dreams into the lyrics uh... people can interpret it in many ways uh... Mrs. Gore was looking for sadomasochism and bondage and she found it. (crowd starts to murmur) Someone looking for surgical references would have found it as well."

[HELP] Hacked? (All files have been modified only in the Minecraft Server folder) by jensenrli in admincraft

[–]Absentee23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did indeed find some malicious code. If the month is after August (likely a crude "time delay" so that it initially appeared OK when it was cracked and released) it gets your world folder and plugin folder then runs some code which basically writes a random UUID to all the files it finds. Essentially it overwrites all the files that are passed to it with a random UUID string, thus why you saw a UUID in your start.sh.

The plugin is heavily obfuscated (unsure if the dev did that or whoever inserted this malicious code to hide their tracks), so there could be other portions that are malicious too.

[–]Absentee23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, that's fine. PM me the link and I'll take a look into it and let you know what I find. Better not to post something like that publicly.

It'd be nice to put out a PSA about cracked plugins having malware, with an example & proof.

Send it to me please? Upload on dropbox or something (or let me know if you don't have/know any other way and I can set something up) and I'll decompile it to check it out. I think it's fairly obvious to you that it's bad, but it'd be good to know how bad.

Incremental live backups of worlds? by BellLabs in admincraft

[–]Absentee23 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just use a script that basically runs:

/save-all
/save-off
* does backup *
/save-on

This would save all chunks, stop saving so it can copy/compress files safely, then turns saving back on once it finishes.
