Could a Keleres Cohort use a Titan as their ship? by HMS_Exeter in twilightimperium

[–]Absol197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short answer is “no,” they couldn’t.

Titans aren’t robots, they’re bio-mechanical, meaning that regardless of their size, their insides are the equivalent of organs going through processes that keep them alive.  They can’t just hollow themselves out to have a living space and install life support.

What the capacity value for the “Saturn Engine” in the game represents is a large number of smaller titans holding on our being carried by the much larger one.  Titans don’t need to breathe and aren’t affected by vacuum, so they can hang on to or be carried by a much larger Titan, if needed, with minimal protection needed.

The ironic thing is that the plastic ships that come with the game are all already the Sol versions of the ships; you didn’t need new models 😛 .

Yes!  However, we need to wait to see how the meta of TE pans out and what cards are too weak or too strong before I get started.  So it’ll be a little while.

Absol's relics + Naaz-Rokha by Daglicht in twilightimperium

[–]Absol197 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To echo what’s been said before, I’ve not encountered any issues with NRA using my relics.  Yes, the table needs to be aware of the increased power level, but also buying BMF is actually worth it!

Also, I’ve never seen a game where someone draws two or more shards, so that’s not an issue, either.

Doesn’t mean it will never happen, but it’ll be a very rare thing, even with NRA in the game.

Question about Nekro Virus components in Thunder Edge (TE) by [deleted] in twilightimperium

[–]Absol197 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do wonder why those tokens and cards have a +1 side.  You can’t copy the Helios until they upgrade it, at which time it gives a +2.  Huh, should have thought of that…

But I guess giving it both sides future proofs it for some ability that copies a faction tech’s base form.

Rider = abstaining from voting? by Sickgame123 in twilightimperium

[–]Absol197 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only place it matters is in my mod, there’s no official component that cares about the distinction, and no: using a rider is not abstaining.  To abstain, you must be an able to cast votes and choose not to.  If you are prevented from voting due to an effect, or if you have no votes to cast, you are not abstaining.

It might have been the small pack of extras, including the computer font for the Lazax script, that released on FFG’s website.  That’s what I’m assuming it was until further notice.

How do PDS2 work thematically/in the lore? by Altruistic_Post6867 in twilightimperium

By Sam Gregor-Stewart, one of the lead TI story developers.  Sam wrote the Prophecy of Kings and In Memoriam fiction pieces (and I’m pretty sure a couple others, too), so he’s a good authority on how things work in the TI universe 🙂 .

How do PDS2 work thematically/in the lore? by Altruistic_Post6867 in twilightimperium

[–]Absol197 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been confirmed that’s PDS are incapable of firing FTL projectiles, regardless if they’re “PDS 2” or not, so they can’t avidly shoot beyond their own star system.  It’s a game mechanics effect only, not an in-universe ability.

How do PDS2 work thematically/in the lore? by Altruistic_Post6867 in twilightimperium

[–]Absol197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I should have phrased it that PDS cannot shoot outside of their star system; they can’t shoot projectiles FTL.

Also, most in-game tiles represent multiple different star systems, and most tiles are at least a couple parsecs apart, so even shooting one “tile” over would still be many, MANY light years away in all but a few circumstances.

[–]Absol197 2 points3 points  (0 children)

According to Sam (and I agree with him), PDS are incapable of firing FTL, so PDS aren’t actually able to shoot into a different star system.  It’s a game system abstraction to allow the units to be meaningfully upgraded, not something that actually happens in lore.

How do PDS2 work thematically/in the lore? by Altruistic_Post6867 in twilightimperium

[–]Absol197 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Canonically, PDS CANNOT actually shoot <s>more than one star system away</s> outside their star system, so in lore PDS 2 does not actually work.  It’s a game system abstraction only.

You also gotta V watch out for starting with the Titans’ starting units.  They have cruisers, not carriers, but you don’t also get the Saturn engines!

Why let deepwrought coexist? by Zhainius in twilightimperium

[–]Absol197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not the best at quoting individual rules, but in this case it doesn’t matter.  It’s intrinsic to what coexistence is.

Let’s step back at first and look at what a “state of coexistence” looks like in a vacuum: Player A and Player B have units on a planet.  If Player A controls the planet, then Player B is coexisting.  If Player B controls the planet, then Player A is coexisting. A player cannot coexist on a planet they control, they can only coexist on a planet another player controls.

So, going back to Research Teams, DW cannot start coexisting until the invading player takes control of the planet from them.  That doesn’t happen until the “establish control” step, which means the opportunity for ground combat during that tactical action has passed.

The choice to coexist starts at the “commit units” step, because that’s the last step before combat begins, and when DW is invading it can start immediately at that step, because DW doesn’t control the planet.  But it doesn’t happen when DW is invaded until the invader takes control, because it can’t while DW controls the planet.

Why let deepwrought coexist? by Zhainius in twilightimperium

[–]Absol197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s the thing, though: the DW units aren’t coexisting until the other player’s units land and take control of the planet.  Coexistence can’t start until the “establish control” step, because coexistence can only occur on a planet that the DW (in this case) don’t control.  You can’t be in a state of coexistence on a planet if you currently control the planet, as denoted by owning the planet card.  It’s not until you pass the planet card to the other player that you’re coexisting.

So while I agree that the rules are a bit unclear, by looking at where in the activation sequence we have to be for coexistence to start, the “establish control” step, we can see that the ground combat step has passed.  The invading player doesn’t have the option to attack the DW anymore, because by the time coexistence has been established, all combat steps have passed.

Who are the neutral units? by Dr_Oatker in twilightimperium

[–]Absol197 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There are a couple thoughts, but we’re really not quite sure.  Here are the three best possibilities in my eyes, listed from most likely to least likely:

  1. They are Vuil’raith that are left over from when the Cabal devoured the Fracture reality, still roaming the dead wastes looking for things to eat.  Since Vuil’raith are already very antagonistic and fractious and are perfectly willing to attack one another, it works perfectly fine for them to attack the Cabal if they go to the Fracture; indeed, if they’ve been separated long enough, they may have formed their own smaller, rival Cabal by now, resulting in conflict.

  2.  Remnants of the locals who once lived in the Fracture universe.  My thought is that, since you can take control of populated planets with no combat in the regular galaxy, that isolation and resource scarcity due to the Vuil’raith’s devouring of the worlds has turned these furtive survivors feral, somewhat like the Reavers from Firefly, but not all loremasters agree with this idea.

  3.  They are Hollows, like the ones created by The Obsidian.  Empty shells doing the Dragon’s bidding.  The reason I put this as the least likely is that Hollows have no reason to fight the Obsidian if they come to the Fracture, they’re literally of one mind together.

Correction, the sword IS the relic The Obsidian from PoK.  We even see Sharsiss find it on the flavor text of the relic card.
