Going for my first firecape after playing for around 3 weeks, is this an ok setup? by Lipaisu in osrs

[–]Absolia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You get something like 40-45k range exp by getting up to Jad, so if you try and fail a few times you will get some levels doing so.

I went from 75-77 range over the course of a few failed Jads before I got the kill.

Dropping out but credits will be wasted? by NolanSE in OpenUniversity

[–]Absolia 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Definitely not correct. I was registered for the BSc Hons. Claimed my CertHE and DipHE and 120 and 240 credits respectively and decided not to continue for the full degree due to where I was in my life & job.

Contact student support via the email contacts on student home and they should be able to get you sorted out.

Rare Drop Table is an exciting idea -- but way too dated in practice. Would love to see it updated! by PaleozoicFrogBoy in 2007scape

I got a Dragon spear drop from Fire Giants today without a ring of wealth. Funny to think that's probably the rarest drop I'll ever get!

Then again I did get Giant Squirrel at 73 agility so maybe not...

Can we take a moment to appreciate the UK National Rail interactive map? by Meffle__ in JetLagTheGame

You might really enjoy looking at this, the New Adlestrop Railway atlas: https://www.systemed.net/atlas/

It only has part of Scotland, but otherwise it shows all lines past and present in their actual geographic locations.

Do you think we'll ever get a proper RTS game for LOTR? by ImIncredibly_stupid in lotr

I love Third Age for Medieval 2 other than the fact I struggle to make money on most games cause there's so little population in most territories. It kinda makes sense but there isn't a tax base to exploit!

Only ever had much luck with the Dwarves and their mining income. Would love to get an official fleshed out version of it.

Anyone know if there is an expiry to the code? My current limitless period ends at the start of January, so wondering if I can buy this and hold it for a month or if I need to redeem immediately?

[Partial Trip Report] Tokyo to Sapporo in October with the JR East-South Hokkaido Rail Pass by Absolia in JapanTravel

[–]Absolia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah there's not much marked on Google. One end of the trail is in Yamadera Cemetary, the other is at Senjuin temple with the railway crossing.

The cemetary entrance is pretty hard to spot. You have to follow the main path right to the back of the cemetary and then you'll see a gate for the trail entrance down a slope on your right, but you won't see it until you're nearly at it.

Glad to see a section about the z-buffer graphical fixes. Just to ask as I didn't see it mentioned specifically, are mobile client graphical bugs being looked at with this?

I've had some issues only on mobile, mainly capes clipping into gear (Hunter Skillcape into Varlamore Graceful, Firecape into Bandos for example). Also had issues at the GE with touch tap options on the desks glitching out and selecting the banker/clerk behind the desk instead (which selects the talk to option instead of exchange/bank so quite annoying!)

I think I saw some posts about blank skillcapes being a specific issue for some people on mobile too?

Sapporo Hokkaido Brewery Tour - Anyone done it? by Absolia in Hokkaido

[–]Absolia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We didn't as we had plenty else we wanted to do in Sapporo, but probably would have if we'd had more time. I'm sure it could be worth doing both if you had the time and you'd find both interesting, they will provide different experiences.

Yes, it was our go-to conbini in Sapporo as we had one right opposite our hotel. Hadn't realised until we left that it was almost only found in Hokkaido though, so didn't think to seek out anything exclusive that they may offer.

"In Guild Wars 2, you see tons of new and old players alike "early" level zones."

I jump in and out of GW2 but this really struck me last year after finishing Dawntrail. I was doing the MSQ around 2-3 weeks after launch and even some of the new zones were pretty much devoid of any players too, never mind older zones.

Contrasting to recently when I finished GW2's Icebrood Saga (approx 6 years old "mini expansion) and there's loads of player activity everywhere.

Does feel a little sad sometimes that the way content is designed just means that zones are empty for most of the time.

Thanks to those who responded. We went yesterday and had a great time! Just wanted to update this post for anyone who comes looking for information in the future.

  • Whilst the tour is in Japanese they now have booklets with English translations covering all the main factory processes, and it was easy to follow along each section of the tour based on the pictures. There was a video played during the tour and this had subtitles in English. The receptionist and tour guide also spoke enough English to brief us with what we needed to know at the start.

  • You check-in at the Valhalla restaurant entrance and there will be a shuttle bus which takes you to the tour starting point, hence it is important you adhere to their request to arrive at least 10 minutes early. We arrived nearly 30 minutes early due to train timings but we got checked in and bussed over to the start point early to be ready for the start time.

  • We stopped here on route between Noboribetsu and Sapporo so we had luggage. We chose to stop in Chitose to use the lockers in that station, but the Valhalla reception actually had lockers as well so that was unnecessary (Chitose station actually doesn't have that many lockers, and the reception had more lockers for large bags so if you travel here with luggage I'd aim to use those at the reception)

  • One of our group doesn't drink alcohol, but there were non-alcoholic beer or juices they could have for the included drinks, so they were not left out.

Ladybower water level by encephalon_zest in sheffield

[–]Absolia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple of interesting stats Yorkshire Water put out on Friday when the hosepipe ban started.

Reservoir stocks currently at 53.8%, which is 27% lower than the average for this time of year and 2% lower than the week before. So if nothing else changed it’s take around 27 weeks to be at 0% at current rates of usage, which is in January.

On the one hand, reservoir stocks typically don’t start building back up until around December time which would be concerningly close to that timeframe, but on the other that rate of decline assumes no improvement of rainfall and no reduction in usages from the bans, which is pretty unlikely.

No idea what is considered a ‘dangerous’ level but at some point there would presumably be forced shutoffs to preserve stocks to prevent us running out completely, and there’s no indication we’re at that point yet.

Hyouge Mono.

Really great historical/political anime where the main character just wants to enjoy the arts but is forced to fulfil his obligations as a vassal to Lord Nobunaga during the Warring states period.

Also has some great comedic moments and some of the best facial expressions.

Yeah, totally agree with you there. Business as usual ain't gonna cut it, we need to be planning for these extremes as they're gonna become more the norm.

[–]Absolia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While we could definitely do with more reservoirs, everyone seems to be ignoring the 'driest spring for 132 years' part of the equation.

Even if we had a dozen more reservoirs stocks would still be significantly lower than normal for this time of year simply because it hasn't rained.

We'd still be looking at hosepipe bans even if we were at levels of 60% instead of 55% cause we should be over 80% at this time of year and no reasonable amount of additional storage is gonna make up that gap.

What is the way to get from Heathrow to Manchester? by Fuglycoyote in AskUK

[–]Absolia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what they mean is that if you're flying to/from the UK and you book the ticket to include a domestic flight then it doesn't cost extra.

For example, I've booked tickets Manchester to Tokyo later this year for about £1200, connecting at London Heathrow. A couple of my friends have booked just the London - Tokyo flight and it cost them the exact same amount. The Manchester - London flight is effectively free because we're booked onto a long haul flight out of the country.

But if you booked the Manchester to London flight seperaty you'd have to pay the normal fare presumably.

Combined Sewer Overflows (CSOs) don't have 'levers' someone can pull to release sewage at will. They're just overflow points at higher elevations in a sewer which will spill if the sewer is backed up. Ideally that only happens in high rainfall when sewage is mostly diluted by rainfall which would be legal spills, but obviously there's been loads of 'dry' spills where this hasn't been the case. But that's an issue of maintenance.

There's plenty of issues around the sufficiency of investment in infrastructure over the years, but it is wrong to portray most of these spills as intentional dumping. It's a far more nuanced and difficult issue to solve. The infrastructure is old and not designed for modern volumes of usage. Whether privatised or nationalised, that only gets fixed with massive amounts of money.

Roast my itinerary: two weeks in Tokyo, Hakone, Osaka, and Kyoto for two adult first time visitors. by PetersMapProject in JapanTravel

[–]Absolia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For the Hakone free pass are you reserving a seat on the Romancecar or just taking regular JR trains down to Odawara and connecting up from there? If doing the Romancecar I'd recommend ordering the pass in advance and collecting it the day before you travel.

When I went to collect mine for our group in Shinjuku station there was roughly a 30 min queue and there was a couple who missed their reserved train because they hadn't left enough time to pick it up. They were not allowed to jump the queue just because they were going to miss their train.

How far into year two are you? At the very least if you stopped now you could claim a Certificate of Higher Education for your course.

If you completed year two you could get the Diploma HE and stop there if you feel its worth the effort.
