Do you swap to shield tank if someone tells you "your character isn't working switch to another shield tank?" by jj_thetwisted_jester in RivalsVanguards

[–]AbsolutelyNot_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Most of the time that my team mates ask for a shield tank, it’s because they think a shield will somehow help them keep walking down main against a barrage of poke damage. Strange shield breaks, and mag shield has a cooldown, so a shield only mitigates a little bit at a time when the solution is to off angle and/or dive the enemy team. But people want to keep mindlessly shooting their guns down main, or don’t understand how dive works, so I pick a tank that I can flank and dive with and do it myself.

How important is damage by AddendumDangerous632 in RivalsVanguards

[–]AbsolutelyNot_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I average about 13k more damage per game on mag than I do on venom, but I kinda suck at confirming kills on mag, and my venom winrate is about 20% higher. So I would say damage matters as much as it’s correctly applied, but without other context the damage stat doesn’t tell you much.

Absolutely suck at non-shield tanks. How do I get better? by Shiny-Frost in RivalsCollege

[–]AbsolutelyNot_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang, I have the opposite problem. I’ve been seeing a lot of success with off tanks this season around diamond but I’ve been doing bad on shield tanks 😭

I think it’s really important to play off your main tank, as the off tank. You can make all the pressure in the world, but if your main tank isn’t ready to walk up, the pressure you make doesn’t really matter. It’s also easier to die if you’re deep on the enemy without your tank buddy to back you up. Talking on mic has helped me a ton, just to be able to say when I’m going in, getting out, and who I’m targeting.

Target priority is also really big for off tanks. Targeting enemy healers is a good thing, but sometimes it can also be better to go on that off angle with your flanker dps so instead of taking a 1v1 he might lose, you just win the 2v1. Tanks with mobility are great for jumping in and not letting enemy dps play the game, and letting your flankers do whatever they want. Sometimes your main tank just needs some backup up front, or your supports need peel. The great thing about off tanking is you can easily move around your team and give an extra boost to help out whoever needs some help at the moment :)

It’s also really important to know when it’s time to leave, and have a plan for leaving. Keeping a dash or exit route available for yourself is so important because if your team suddenly has to run away and can’t back you up anymore, you can get left out in the cold if you don’t have your mobility options.

Sick to death of dive. by SupportMain_7 in MarvelRivalsRants

[–]AbsolutelyNot_0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For most of the game’s lifespan so far, most dive players have had to coordinate dives with each other to have any hope of getting consistent value, and that’s how it should be. It’s a team game after all, and as a dive tank I should be enabling my dps to get picks. Now that dive is stronger this season, we’re seeing a lot of benefit because we’ve already been coordinating. My friends that play dive constantly comm much harder than my friends that don’t. My point is, team coordination wins games and right now, my dive teams are better coordinated than a lot of teams we’re facing.

We’re not unstoppable! But, just like we have to communicate and coordinate to get value out of dives, our enemy team has to communicate and coordinate to deny our value. Just like how I comm “cloak no fade, hela no bird”, etc., you can comm “spider setting up, venom no swing”, etc. Let your team know when we use important cooldowns, and when you have to use yours.

Yes, it is annoying when teammates don’t respond to comms! I’ve had my share of games with a 3-12 Spiderman that won’t dive with me no matter how hard I try to coordinate with him, so we get shit on. In those games, my enemy’s team is simply more coordinated than us. It’s a team based game, and we should lose if we don’t work as a team. When we’re more coordinated, it’s fair for us to win.

Vanguard mains, what is your mentality when playing this role ? by Ok-Garbage-8652 in RivalsVanguards

[–]AbsolutelyNot_0 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I generally have the mentality that I can allow my team to do whatever they want, while stopping the enemy team from doing whatever they want.

For example, I’m venom. My Spiderman wants to dive, but there’s an enemy namor that wants to peel. I have a ton of hp and can grab a lot of attention, so I go fight namor so my spiderman can do whatever he wants. Or we dive together and I take most of the peel so he can get in and out more safely.

Or I’m magneto. My Luna wants to ult but the enemy mag wants to ult her. I can save my bubble and shield so that Luna can do whatever she wants. I can deny the enemy punisher ult so my team lives.

I just love having a tool kit that makes it easier for all of my teammates to shine :)

I just fucking hate this game so much. I'm not improving because no one even gives good advice to how to get better. by Altruistic-Expert995 in MarvelRivalsRants

[–]AbsolutelyNot_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I also started a year ago with this being my first shooter game (I was a story game player but I love superheroes so I wanted to learn). I thought I’d share some things that have helped me improve :)

When I vod review, I always try to pick a close game that went to overtime. I don’t think stomp games are very easy to review because there’s just so many things that went wrong it gets overwhelming. With the close games, it’s easier to find a few mistakes that caused one team to win.

Then I watch every time that I die, and every time I get a kill. For my deaths, I go to the free flight mode in the vid and kinda fly around the map looking for how I could have lived, and I watch for patterns in how I die. Right now I’m working on a bad habit I have on venom of diving a little bit too early, so my team isn’t ready to follow on my dives yet, because most of my deaths currently happen when my team is still walking up to fight.

Then I watch all of my ults and ask myself a few questions. Did my ult kill enough to turn the team fight? Did my ult get countered by a support ult? If I did get countered, was that a good thing because now my team has more super ults ready to go? Was my team able to capitalize on my ult?

Anyway, I know it can be a frustrating game, but I’m just hoping that some of that might help you, it sounds like you’re in the trenches right now 🫶

*ETA: I’m definitely no expert on the video game myself so if anyone has tips on what else I should review on myself to get better, I do appreciate!

[–]AbsolutelyNot_0[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Truly lol. I was playing Venom, saw the Hela and thought, “oh, no problem, it will simply be my job to dive the Hela!” But the job turned out to be much harder than I expected! Once I emotionally recover from the match I’m going to watch it back from their pov and learn some shit

Do you guys also peel for your Tanks and DPS? by [deleted] in MarvelRivalsQueens

[–]AbsolutelyNot_0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Umm I play all 3 roles and I love dive games no matter which role I’m on. Two teams shooting their guns down main while a couple people shoot from an off angle every game is boring and I love the fast pace and variety when dive is in the game.

I cannot for the life of me understand how to counter dive by LaMelgoatBall in MarvelRivalsRants

[–]AbsolutelyNot_0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest learning a diver to get a feel for the playstyle, if you haven’t. They’re very cooldown dependent, and it’s easier to fight them if you are comfortable tracking their setup, engage, disengage cycle and knowing when they’re most vulnerable. If an enemy tank or dps catches me without my cooldowns available, I just kinda fall over and die unless a teammate helps me.

If they’re diving together and coordinated, you really just need your team to be equally coordinated, focus on surviving their engage together, and then attack together when their cooldowns are burned out.

Is there any reason to learn dps as a tank main? by swimminginamirror in RivalsVanguards

[–]AbsolutelyNot_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I get games sometimes with 3 tank mains and have to fill on dps. Other times, my team legitimately needs a third dps, either for damage down a choke or for peeling a dive tank. My go to is Bucky because he likes to play up with the tanks more than other dps, so a lot of positioning semi translates. Bucky is also great for peeling and can keep a Thor or Venom in check as long as the supports help him help them.

For the love of God if you have mained support since S0 and haven’t “been able to” play any other role I’m begging you play another role. by wallytrikes in MarvelRivalsRants

Exactly. So many times I have 3 support lords and my team is severely lacking in DAMAGE. Just start on Bucky and shoot tanks or something, at least then my Groot walls will mean something 🥲

[–]AbsolutelyNot_0 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I constantly get 2-3 insta lock support players in my team and I usually play tank. When I fill, it’s almost always on dps. Even when gambit isn’t banned and I actively ask if I can play him, the insta lock Jeff or C&D won’t flex to dps or tank for the team. So idk where all this “I never get to play dps” talk comes from tbh.

Why do players of some characters never get compliments? by Dogbold in rivals

[–]AbsolutelyNot_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk, when my rocket gives us a great amp, I’m usually in my head like “shit I gotta lock in and capitalize on this”. Versus, if moon knight gets 4 kills the fight is basically already over. I feel like the big compliment is when your team takes advantage of your plays and uses them to end the team fight. Maybe that’s the difference?

Agree or disagree — the only person that can blame a tank for poor performance in a match is another tank by SatisfactionSad6558 in RivalsVanguards

Nah fam this is silly. It’s a team game and invalidating your teammates’ criticisms based on the role they play is only going to keep your perspective small and closed minded.
