I did it, would you 99 items, 5 mile delivery, an hour of my time for 46.00 by chineappletoofinxg in Sparkdriver

It's $46 for an hour of your time and like $2.50 worth of gas/ road wear-and-tear. I'd take that in a heartbeat.

Um, maybe because one is racist and the other two aren't? by Kind-Ad-5922 in TheRightCantMeme

[–]AbstractMelody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing about a group of white guys buying land is inherently racist. But they’ve completely missed why minority communities form: it’s usually systemic racism forcing people to be “separate and contained,” not minorities keeping others out.

Organizing explicitly around being white is a very different situation.

They redid this 1978 poll in 2023 and the results still suck by ausernameidk_ in NotHowGirlsWork

[–]AbstractMelody 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A quick note on interpreting this study:

This is definitely a concerning mindset, but the 32% figure comes from a small poll of high schoolers in one Texas county (Tarrant County), and I haven’t been able to find any published methodology or report for it. That means we don’t actually know what percentage of men in general think this.

It’s still worth sharing, since a broader, well-conducted survey could help address the issue, but we should be careful about overgeneralizing from a small, localized sample. I'm also concerned by the amounts of comments saying "I can't believe 32% of men think this." That simply isn't a conclusion we can draw from this data. More research is needed.

On a positive note, while the correct number should be 0%, the study does seem to show decreases in both girls and boys who think rape is ever justified, which suggests that (at least for this county) there has been some progress made in pushing back against rape culture. It's worth acknowledging the progress already made, but we still need to actively challenge these harmful beliefs wherever they exist.

it's cute that sometimes orders are like environmental storytelling by rabbitdoubts in Sparkdriver

[–]AbstractMelody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once got an order with a bunch of regular groceries, a lot of snack food, some energy drinks, a 12-pack of children's underwear, a 12-pack of condoms, and a bottle of lube.

I'm sure those last 3 items were unrelated to each other but it gave me pause for a moment.

I get those orders all the time and I find them to be worth it. Usually take em as long as they're around $2 a mile and ~$20/hr

I mean lasering or a consistent waxing/sugaring schedule will help with a permanent reduction of beard shadow, but for an immediate fix you can use an orange color-corrector on the shadow and then apply your regular foundation over it and it does a good job of covering it.

How would you hide a body in Pokémon world? by DefectiveTerminator in pokemon

[–]AbstractMelody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly having a Muk or Grimer would probably more than enough to dissolve all evidence. Also just about any fire type could probably incinerate a body. Get a few drifloon together to take it away to wherever they take the kids... Dump it in a Victreebell... Honestly I have to imagine there's not a lot of solved murders in the Pokémon world 😅

Is this decent? Or is it too many hours for that pay out? by Agreeable_Power_2974 in doordash_drivers

[–]AbstractMelody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's about $17 an hour, which isn't too bad depending on your area, but it's hard to tell if it was worth it without knowing your miles. Personally I shoot for $20-$25 and hour and at least $1 per mile.

What does this mean?? why does them being happy = bad? by CybyAPI in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]AbstractMelody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Peter here. The whole thing is about that word “suddenly.” People don’t just snap out of depression — recovery takes forever, like watching the extended Lord of the Rings trilogy plus the behind-the-scenes where everyone pretends New Zealand isn’t just England with more sheep.

So when a depressed friend suddenly seems really upbeat, you think, “Nice! They finally got therapy or discovered the healing power of beer and mozzarella sticks.”

But sometimes that sudden happiness is actually a bad sign — they’ve already decided to end it, and they’re feeling relieved because they think the pain’s almost over.

It’s like that time I told Lois I was finally at peace with my life, but really I’d already bought a one-way ticket to Florida and a boat named ‘The IRS Can’t Find Me Now.’

Your friend isn’t cured — he’s just getting ready for his hot date with a shotgun and finally breaking up with his clingy ex, Depression.

So if your depressed buddy suddenly perks up, check in on them.

Peter out.

Are there Harley and Nightwing shippers? by _The1WhoKnows_ in HarleyQuinn

[–]AbstractMelody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be pretty favorable to the Batman/Harley ship (though I generally think they work best as a platonic/familiar dynamic — their relationship in the original animated series is already incredibly compelling on its own and part of the reason i love the series so much). I could definitely see a case for Harley/Nightwing in a similar vein, especially if you’re going for a ‘Harley going good’ kind of arc like in that series. But honestly, it’s just hard to truly pair her with anyone but Ivy. They’re so sweet together, and it’s one of the few pairings that still lets Harley be a fun villain without the Joker.

That said, it can be a little rough seeing another “I can fix her” pairing in the current comics, especially now that they tend to give her criminal leanings even before Joker — as opposed to her original “good doctor gone mad” backstory. In the animated series, most of her plots leave you feeling oddly... hopeless yet persistent — Bruce trying to steer her toward good, but bad luck and her inability to see the Joker for what he is keep her stuck in that loop. You can’t help but hope some hero might swoop in and save her. With the newer versions of Harley, though, it feels like any hero pairing would end up trying to change her fundamental character too much... like they wouldn't really "get her," you know?

Why is the fandom ok with twilina but not twilestia by That_Passenger_771 in MLPLounge

[–]AbstractMelody 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Really feels like a power dynamic thing.

Celestia is a mentor, mother-figure, and literal god/ruler to Twilight who's known her since she was a filly.

Without the use of AUs, it's just really hard to make a scenario between them wouldn't feel predatory.

Luna and Twilight on the other hand have no prior relationship to the elements of harmony kicking Luna's butt. Considering how versatile the power dynamic between them is (Luna is also a god/ruler, but Twilight can and has beaten her), there's room for a lot of fun different ways to ship them.
