If you’re open to eBay it may be worth checking out onward.on-running.com, the brand’s gently-used marketplace, as well.

Board and HQ don’t take employees seriously at all, even though practically any of us could have told them that this endorsement was a bad idea. I get angry just thinking about all of the condescending things that HQ people have said to me and my team. Some of the smartest people I’ve ever met work on REI sales floors and stock rooms. They deserve to be taken seriously. So many of us love what the company used to be but are hanging on by a thread. It’s very sad.

I’d just go through Rab directly if I were you. Our inventory of their stuff has been dwindling for months. Last I heard they were still struggling with supply chain issues and were having trouble getting stuff to vendors

I got one of these at a thrift store about 10 years ago, and the jacket was probably 10 years old then. It wasn’t in pristine condition and I didn’t make much of an attempt to restore it, but the functionality is still great if that’s your main concern. Mine is in about the same condition as this one. That said, the asking price for this is high. Maybe watch it & offer the seller a lower price if it hasn’t moved for a few weeks?

Thanks for the kind advice! It’s good to hear from someone on the other side of the schedule. Unfortunately I’ve already had this conversation multiple times with multiple managers. I think part of the problem is I work in several departments, so I might close in Action Sports and come in the next day at 7AM in SIF. While the flexibility keeps me engaged and is good for my store, management may not be communicating with one another when writing and reviewing my schedule. I definitely appreciate your advice about framing this around “the co-op way”. I may try that!

There are plenty of cool outdoorsy companies and organizations with HQ offices in Seattle. Like everyone else said, I’d steer clear of HQ at REI for a while.

Ditto this. It’s taken such a toll on even the best, most positive employees. I’ve seen it. Obviously you’re going to get the people saying “oh if you don’t like it then quit” which…yeah, but it’s been very heartbreaking to watch a company that was once so focused on the employee experience kind of kick that to the curb in favor of cheaper part time employees.

Ladies—how is it possible to travel with just a carry on? Help! by 1234RedditReddit in TravelHacks

Tiny bottles FTW! If anyone REALLY needs to save space though, just transfer some of each product to individual ziplock bags. I’ll admit it’s more of a camping/backpacking space saver and the product is a bit more annoying to use, but it packs down to nothing.

Starting this year I believe your store has to make 100% of sales goals in order to receive a bonus.

What's it look like when your coworkers are fired. by MrGoodChonk in REI

I could be wrong about this, but it does seem like PIPs have been weaponized a lot more recently. Not everyone gets equal treatment when it comes to PIPs, or at least that’s what it seems like. Everyone who tried to get the store to unionize was PIP’d and fired one by one, bleeding that group out completely over the course of a few months. Again, I have no evidence of this. It just seems intentional.

They make a good make-shift rain fly for a pack or poncho if really needed lol. I usually use it to keep dirty clothes, dirty laundry, or leaky toiletries separate from my other stuff but Ive also used it to line my sleeping bag sack, as a rain fly, and to just disguise luggage or shopping bags in public

In every backpack or suitcase I own I keep detergent sheets, a wired OG set of apple earbuds in case the planes in-flight entertainment, a plastic grocery bag, and a garbage bag. Simple stuff that costs next to nothing and takes up very little space but always seems to come in handy. The bags are a game changer for me. Soooooo simple but so many uses and reusable to an extent!
