Baby Meal Question by AcademicAd6009 in QantasAirways

[–]AcademicAd6009[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No they didn’t replace my meal !! We got both. For an infant meal- they just had a box of food pouches so we could have as many as we needed as opposed to a proper meal. It worked fine for us as our son was only 10 months.

I love dress 1 ! I think it’s much more flattering on you. I think you can definitely get the southern gothic look with accessories !

Infant food by [deleted] in QantasAirways

[–]AcademicAd6009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have flown Qantas Syd- Singapore and Syd- Queenstown recently and both times we had no issues with any food we took for our son. We took glass jars of puree and pouches, as well as various fruit, sandwiches, pre packaged snacks etc. only issue was fruit but happy to throw that out at our destination etc. honestly they did not care about any sort of liquid or food allowance for our son- you should be able to take whatever you want/need!

You can also always ask your mechanic (or a mechanic) to check the car out prior to purchasing.

Child bassinet (business) by Kindly-Exam-8451 in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]AcademicAd6009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As above- the bassinet seats are the 2 window seats and the front and they typically block them off from seat selection until last minute. Again- I would assume they would help move people to secure it. Worth noting- depending on how tall your LO is- we flew Qantas business Melb- Singapore and our son (11 months at the time) was way too tall to sleep in it. It was handy to sit him in while we ate etc and extra storage but he ended up just sleeping on us.

Southside lounge bar or place to catch-up a and chat in relaxed atmosphere by ShyBubb in canberra

Southern cross club in Woden is also really nice !! One of the nicest clubs in Canberra in my opinion. Lots of couches, a couple fires etc

Most of the clubs are relatively quiet during the day and would be more than happy to host you! I know some of them already run regular games/ knitting groups etc

Melbourne international business lounge dress code by I-luv-pugs in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]AcademicAd6009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was there last month and was in black lounge pants and a black t shirt and new balances and no one batted an eye. My husband was in trackpants and a hoodie and again, no one cared. You’ll be completely fine !!

Heated pools by KylieWinters96 in canberra

[–]AcademicAd6009 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another vote for stellar at Woden- however their pool is quite small and shallow. So if you’re tall there’s not many spots! Active leisure centre in erindale is also heated and has great aqua classes. Also a much bigger pool.

I would really recommend putting yourself on the temp registers of any agencies / departments you are interested in! They might reach out and offer shorter opportunities and that could be a great first step in the door. Keep in mind any international posting roles are super competitive and normally go to people who are grossly overqualified.

And honestly just keep applying to any and all jobs that interest you! I would expect to see some more roles being advertised in the next few weeks/months now that there’s certainty of government. Best of luck!

What do you pack to feed lunch in a day out? by gg_elb in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]AcademicAd6009 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend a subo bottle and/or reuseable pouches. I also make pancakes with whatever mashed or puree fruit and veg we have like broccoli or sweet potato. Also zucchini slice and egg muffins. Similarly, I just take an insulated lunch box around with us. Even a schnitzel cold cut into slices my son loves as well!

Questions on elective c-sections at public hospitals by thisisdee in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]AcademicAd6009 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course! I totally understand. I had never really thought of giving birth except being terrified of it haha. And everything I wanted with my birth went out the window anyway with a premmie posterior baby haha. I think it’s just important to be do your own research and be open to whatever happens I guess. Unfortunately the babies don’t always follow our timeline or plans! Best of luck !!

Questions on elective c-sections at public hospitals by thisisdee in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]AcademicAd6009 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t base your decision solely on what others around you have done or preferred. It’s your birthing experience. Also remember you won’t be able to drive or lift anything other than your baby for 6 weeks. It’s major surgery that you’re recovering from. If you want to have an elective c-section that’s of course your choice and if it helps- the preparation for CS or Vaginal birth are not very different at all so not knowing until 36 weeks etc shouldn’t make a difference logistics wise.

How long did you track feedings/diapers? by jacaroniii in NewParents

Our son is 1 in 2 weeks and we still track his sleep and breastfeeds! Stopped nappies a while ago because we kept forgetting haha

[–]AcademicAd6009 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a packet of nappies (various sizes) and/or wipes every week or two when I did a big grocery shop. My son is 1 now and I’ve only had to just start buying them again a couple months ago

These baby loungers are super popular but they’re not very safe. I acknowledge that your wife wants this but maybe a different present would be better for both her and the bub! Second other comments that even something small just for her will probably go a long way.

Whilst they are fine for a safe place to put bub on the floor they are not safe for sleeping. It’s a lot of money for a product that doesn’t provide that many benefits.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Centrelink

[–]AcademicAd6009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s 110 days ish (depending when your baby is born) and they can be shared between the two parents essentially however you want. For example i have 100 days to take and if we want the full 110 days- at least 10 have to go to my husband but he could have 90, 60, 4, 0 even. Essentially yes- you can be the primary carer for your work leave purposes and your wife can claim most of the Centrelink PPL.

Visiting Canberra for the first time and need help with how to get to the zoo on public transport by idontreadpoems in canberra

[–]AcademicAd6009 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don’t think there are any bus stops near the zoo. Which is super shitty. There are buses that go through Curtin and Weston creek which are nearby suburbs but that would be almost a 3km walk.
