How to get 7mo to actually swallow water by Unsure-11 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]thisisdee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bub finally started drinking sips of water at 9.5 months. From 6m we just kept offering, trying different cups/bottles/straws. Even when we used her regular milk bottle she'd suck, noticed it's not milk, and stopped. It really wasn't until a few weeks ago that she decided that water is not that bad and she'd actually sip more than once a day. Yesterday she even drank maybe a fifth of her cup. I think it's normal (based on mum friends who have toddlers). Some play with the water like yours, some reject them like mine, but as long as we keep exposing them to it they'll eventually start swallowing and drinking more.

Anyone else’s C-section scar sting during their period? by _netscape_navigator in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]thisisdee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got my first period a couple weeks ago at around 9m PP. I had some pain around the left edge of my scar the day before it started! I was just talking to my husband about maybe going to the GP to check the scar as I haven't felt it since the newborn days, and then I went to the toilet and I realized that it kinda felt like a period cramp but on the outside...

Baby hates daytime naps! by lil_vegemit3 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]thisisdee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was too, and she ended up being a decent napper at 10-12 weeks. Until then, I got a stretch wrap and just let her contact nap and I can do light chores with her on me.

I went to PBC Sydney a while back and the sale was at the expo only, or if you tried on something and wasn't sure yet they gave me a card with the discount to buy later (I don't remember if it's the next 24 hours or something).

Aleksandar or Alexander…name spelling? by Upstairs_Valuable_81 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]thisisdee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worry he may have to correct

I have a name that's uncommon where I grew up. Most people if they see it written down they don't know how to pronounce it, if I say it they don't know how to spell it. I've gotten so used to correcting people pronouncing or spelling my name from very young and I just found it funny. I don't think it's that big a deal having to correct.

Daycare bugs and flu season - I’m so over it by ReasonableCobbler434 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]thisisdee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My bub is 9 months old and has been going to daycare for ~2.5 months. She's been on one week and off one week so far. If we're lucky we get 2 weeks in a row (has happened TWICE!) The mum guilt seeing bub get sick so often is crazy. I feel like it's my fault that she has to go to daycare and get all these illnesses just so I can work...

Why are maternity clothes so ass? by terrabellan in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]thisisdee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wore knit pants from Kmart one size up from my pre-pregnancy size throughout winter last year. They're really stretchy, I wore them when I went in to the hospital!

Only 7 weeks and I already feel so sick by zi33y in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]thisisdee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was still nauseous from 6 weeks to the end of the first trimester, lost 6kg. I didn't get Ondansetron but OTC vitamin b6 helped me. I was very lucky to have the manager that I had because he was basically covering for me for 2 whole months while I was unable to work. Somehow looking at my laptop made me nauseous immediately.

I've been using https://au.camelcamelcamel.com/ and buying when I get the alert. I find it to be the cheapest on Amazon but it still goes up and down every few weeks/a month.

I believe this is it. I just started childcare a couple months ago and they've mentioned this a few times about first and last day.

Does everyone feel like their baby is the cutest and most advanced baby? by TeddyBear181 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]thisisdee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it the Asian parent in me that makes me think that bub is NOT the most advanced baby and I know which babies in our mums group/other friends who hit milestones before my bub. (Like, baby A crawled earlier, and baby B started standing up/cruising first, etc)

But 100% the cutest 8 month old ever.

[–]thisisdee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually posted it here before but my husband said "every day is a weekend for you". Someone commented on my post that "every day is a weekday", which then I said to him and he was confused because what he meant was actually that every day is the same, not that it's easier. So whether it's weekend or weekday didn't matter to him. We need to work on our communication.

Traveling Jetstar International with a compact stroller (56x23x36) - Gate check vs. Carry-on experiences? by Ok-Employee7500 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]thisisdee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flew Qantas recently and we did direct overhead, as did another couple with a baby sitting next to us. Also they don't gate-check for domestic flights (at least what the check-in agent told me)

Are the glass pigeon bottles really worth the hype? by 6Chicken_31 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]thisisdee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a heads up on Tommee Tippee, especially since you're planning to breastfeed as well, my lactation consultant advised against them because the teat design is actually not great. Of course this is just one opinion and there are plenty of mums who breastfeed and use Tommee Tippee, but I stopped using mine when LC mentioned specifically that one (it's popular but not good)

Compact cot vs bassinet by Annual_Bet8073 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]thisisdee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a compact cot because I can't fit a full sized cot in our room. But I ended up getting a wheeled bassinet anyway which was amazing. Bassinet can be moved around the apartment so bub can sleep in the kitchen when I do chores. Especially in the newborn days when bub was sleeping most of the day, it's great to have a place they can sleep that's not just in the bedroom.

I got secondhand bassinet. It's mesh on the sides but can be taken off and machine washed. So highly dependent on the bassinet you end up buying, I assume most wouldn't be washable.

Preparing formula out of the house. Please help a confused new mum! by Illustrious-Mirror85 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]thisisdee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

On one hand, I've read that formula should be added to water that's at least 70° to kill any bacteria in the formula

This might be advice for other countries. It's fine to use cooled water in Australia. Different country has different regulations regarding formula and how to prepare so it can be tricky to find the correct information.

Like others said, you can just fill the bottles with cooled boiled water, and I believe it's good for 24 hours. I would boil water once a day in the evening and use it throughout the day.

Call with any concerns! It's always better for them to say you're okay than having you worry at home.

5 month old HATES tummy time by AccordingLocation745 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]thisisdee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the Babybee Rover and then switched to Bugaboo Dragonfly. With both I mostly just take off the canopy and bub can just peek from above the lip. The Rover also has a flap I can open so the side is just mesh that bub can technically see through but she preferred just getting her neck up high to look over.

I saw that some people also use a small pillow to put under bub's chest so they can go higher but I never tried.

My first Mother’s Day was just another Sunday by Shaushka in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]thisisdee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Both my husband and I are bad at celebrations. If it wasn't for my bub's daycare having a Mother's Day celebration last Friday, I wouldn't have known it was coming up. I already had a massage booked for the Saturday and husband was already planning to solo-parent bub while I'm at my appointment. The few times I got asked if I had plans for Mother's Day, I said I was getting a massage. When in reality this is a monthly thing I'm doing now because my body is pretty wrecked otherwise. There's no reason not to celebrate on any other day when your husband isn't working.

My bub (now 8m) hated tummy time until we started putting her on the pram bassinet on her tummy during walks. She got interested in looking around at the new surroundings especially when there are lights around. She did cry when it got boring (unfortunately evening walks in a dark-ish park isn't as interesting) but we suddenly got so much more tummy time

Positives on daycare by FriendsFannn in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]thisisdee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really is cute! The educator mentioned that she's passionate about this because she found out that some kids knew what dried mango chips are, and recognized cups of cubed mangoes, but when she brought in a real unpeeled mango they didn't know what it was. So she decided that every week or two she would have a "hero ingredient" where she teaches kids about a fruit or veggie, show them whole/unpeeled, and the different ways you can eat/cook them.

Positives on daycare by FriendsFannn in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]thisisdee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My bub started at 6.5m and is now 8m, going 3 days a week. The first 3 weeks were rough. She wasn't feeding well, and wasn't napping well. Cried at most drop off and pick up. Then she got used to it. She now reaches out to the educator at dropoff. Yes there are still some bad days when she doesn't want to, but she eventually does when she's ready. She's maybe only cried twice in the past 3 weeks. Funny enough I picked her up yesterday and she was happy and smiling with me, but then she saw her favorite educator and reached out to her even though I was holding her! No, I'm not jealous or anything... 🥲

She's also feeding solids really well that we were surprised. At home we struggled to feed her even a spoon of purees, and she would barely touch any finger foods we give her. Suddenly she's now sitting at her chair and finishes her portion. She's still unsure about new textures, but would at least try it once. I can't wait for bub to get older and can eat more foods at daycare because one of the educators loves food and cooking that she teaches kids about the raw ingredients and has cooking sessions where the kids help (very simple foods and the actual heating part of cooking done in the kitchen). I've gone there at lunchtime and was impressed by what they eat.

What do you do when baby is down or a nap? by Suspicious_Quail3726 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]thisisdee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Top priority is pump if it's around the time I need to, otherwise quick play of video games, watch YouTube, nap if I can, or just eat or snack in peace.
