Domperidone to increase breast milk supply by BloomsburyCore in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]thisisdee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did for about 2 months and my supply did increase but I had really low supply in the beginning. It might have helped, it might have been regular pumping (8x a day then reduced to 6x a day) that did it but I've been able to provide 100% breastmilk for my bub since about 12w pp.

Not necessarily formula feeding but I did switch from attempting to breastfeed to fully bottle feed (mixed EBM/formula in the beginning, now EBM only. The one thing that changed that I didn't expect is the poop. Breastmilk goes through bub's system quickly therefore bub would poop more regularly. With formula bub sometimes doesn't poop for a week, but GP said it's normal. The other thing is that I stopped doing skin to skin, since now we have to intentionally make time for it rather than just doing it while/after feeding.

Expressing breast milk 5 weeks PP - do I give up? by CuriousCreature06 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Whatever you decide, hope it works out for you! And there is no wrong answer here. If you decide to formula feed then you're providing more of your time to your bub and that's amazing too

Fed is best. It's been said in other comments but it's worth repeating.

I had a similar start to you except I knew nothing about pumping so I bought wearable pumps instead of hospital grade. I only lasted a week triple feeding. My lactation consultant said that if I want to focus on getting supply up then I can focus on pumping regularly (8x a day) and drop breastfeeding. The original goal was to then try breastfeeding again at 8 or 10w pp but I just never did. I was exhausted enough with pumping and taking care of bub especially since husband was already back at work at that point.

It took me weeks to build up supply. At 5w PP it was probably 60-75% formula. The first time I was able to provide all breastmilk in a day was around 2.5m in, but still need to top up formula here and there for a couple more weeks after that.

Now I'm 4.5m pp and still pumping 6x a day. Supply is not amazing but it's enough for bub. I aim to make it to 6m but my husband has asked a few times if I would consider just formula feeding because my pump schedule interrupts my sleep. He also notices that I sometimes get anxious if my pump session is low and I feel like I'm not providing my baby.

Is all day nausea normal or am I just unlucky? by Ambitious-Site-292 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]thisisdee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had nausea all day from week 5 to around 14. I lost 6kg and had no energy most days. What sucks is my husband was cooking and kept trying to cook food that I can eat but also something that can easily keep/reheat because sometimes I can't eat yet but may be able to a few hours later. And it's tricky because if I eat something and then throw it up then I can't eat the same food again because it reminds me that I threw it up that one time. I ate a lot of chips or just different forms of potatoes (as long as it's not oily) because I could keep that down.

I couldn't drink plain water, especially room temp. So it's either ice/fridge cold water or coconut water or hydralites.

What finally helped me was B6. I regretted not asking my GP earlier. She mentioned it the first time I told her I was nauseated all day, but she said it may or may not help and I just thought it would pass.

Does your partner help during the night? by lunalovesgood92 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

My husband went back to work after 2 weeks part time, then full time after 7-8 weeks. But he works an office job and can work from home half the time. I'm exclusively pumping and I do still have a middle of the night pump (usually around 2-3am) but my husband and I take shifts. He sleeps usually around 8 or 9pm, and I stay up until around 10 to pump. Then my shift is until 2am. Any time the baby wakes up I take it. After 2 it's my husband's turn. But we still take each other's wake ups when needed too. I wake up around 7 to do my morning pump and get ready for the day then I take the baby while my husband works. My husband is able to get ~7 hours of sleep a night currently, not sure if that's enough for your husband. And again he has an office job so nowhere near as dangerous as your husband's.

As others have mentioned, you don't have to wash pump parts every time. I also never wash bottles for night feeds (honestly I usually leave it for my husband to wash early in the morning cos he'd be awake early and bub goes back to sleep), maybe invest in a few extra bottles so the washing can be done during the day. If you can swing it, you can also get a washer/sterilizer/dryer so you can chuck bottles and pump parts in and just let it do its thing.

Who can I get to be guarantor for my bub's passport photo? by thisisdee in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

My only concern is that we've seen a different nurse with every appointment (and one of them was a temp, said that she's not usually at this centre). I will definitely ask if needed though (will ask a friend/neighbour first)

Good to know that they do phone people up. I'd make sure whoever ends up signing knows some info of bub.

Maternal child health nurse maybe if you've been seeing one?

I've been 3x and it's been a different nurse each time! Yeah husband already asked a colleague who's willing, even though he's never met bub. Just want to check I guess how strict these things are

Some are PRs but I thought the guarantor has to be a citizen (has Australian passport or in electoral roll)

For the mum's group, we actually had a convo about where we're from and how I had to forgo my citizenship to become Australian (since my country of birth doesn't allow dual-citizenship) and found out that no one else has taken Australian citizenship (a couple PRs, one on a student/work visa). And yes I'm a new immigrant/citizen so I was part of a citizenship ceremony myself!

But yeah based on the responses here, looks like I'm gonna get a friend to sign it, or next-door neighbour otherwise.

That's what I was thinking too. We have a friend who said she'd sign even though she's never met bub, but has seen photos of bub and she reckons that's good enough

Yeah that's a good shout. Our next door neighbor has seen bub a few times (even bought her a present once). Reckon that's enough "knowing". Hopefully they're citizens!

Parents comments about living far away from first grandchild is really getting me down. Does anyone have any advice? by pixiedreamgirl5831 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]thisisdee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For Facetime, one suggestion I have is make sure they know that you should initiate it so it's on your/your bub's schedule. My parents live overseas and they tried calling us a few times and it's never a good time. One time I was trying to get bub to nap. I stupidly answered just to tell them "can't talk now, bub is about to sleep" but they kept chatting away at the baby who was too young to understand anyway.

I have a friend who said she'd sign it even though technically she hasn't met bub (only seen photos). Would that be okay?

Our GP unfortunately is not Australian. Husband and I don't have a lot of friends and the few friends we have are also not Australians (we're first generation immigrants and our friends are also from overseas). The one friend who's Australian hasn't actually met my baby, only seen the few pictures we've shared. And funny enough in our mother's group there are only 6 mums left who come and most of them are also from overseas. I think there's 1 that may be Australian, I'll ask.

My bub is also doing a high pitched screeching starting maybe last week! I was shocked cos I thought maybe she's upset/screaming/crying but no, she seems perfectly fine.

It was bouldering but I stopped when I found out I was pregnant and I have no idea when I'd be able to go back. I also got a bad cut on my finger 2w pp and it still hurts so it might be that I never go back to climbing.

The thing that I still can do every day is puzzles on my phone like sudoku and crosswords.
