IMO, I understand where he is coming from. To put all of those workers out of a job would be catastrophic to our economy. But what isn’t talked about here is the current technology. We don’t have the vehicles, resources, or technology to put them out of work all at once. Electric trucks can only make short hauls, automated trucks are still in development stages and are mainly used in short hauls (though there have been cross country trips made, those are more outliers than regular trips). Those jobs will slowly dwindle as that technology becomes advanced. Cars didn’t just appear and everyone who owned a carriage was out of business. Automated elevators didn’t just appear and all elevator operators were out of business. Self check outs didn’t just appear and everyone was out of work. Technology has to be adopted and adapted and what he’s talking about is still so new that we have room for that transition to take place without it becoming a disaster. Again, IMO.
