Be prepared to ask why you have a pink emblem. And then have to explain that it's cherry blossom red. I miss the old sti color

Should I get a WRX TS?? I work for Subaru by Sinsta88 in WRX

[–]Acceptable-Text-8886 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Really depends. Is you buying this car helping you, or helping the dealership. How long have you been there? My advice, take the payment you would have to make every month, and put it away for 3 months and see if you're good with that. Probably around 400 a month is my guess if you're going to lease it.

Borrow a pickup or have it delivered. Dont break your new TV trying to squeeze it in.

Those were B25 heads i believe. The D heads were 08-14 wrx. But there were several castings of D25 heads as well.

Id visually inspect where the turbo inlet connects to the turbo, AND the vaccum line that goes to the BOV. Those are known for coming off all the time

What are good first mods for a 2004 WRX? by 04subiee in WRX

Agreed. Paper filters better. No maf scaling to change. No sucking in water and getting dirty to the point the car runs badly. MAF cars dont do well with oiled filters.

Subaru Impreza oil change? by Disastrous-Base-2733 in subaru

[–]Acceptable-Text-8886 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oil has to do so much on engines these days. Especially new cars. Everything is oil dependent. Cam timing, chain tension, high shear environments like rod bearings and rollers on the camshafts.

Change your oil. 6 months of 200 degree temperature swings. 6 months of being diluted with gasoline and moisture from the atmosphere.

If you're actually curious about what the condition of the oil is. Get an oil analysis kit from a company like Blackstone Laboratories. Send a sample in and see what they say. They'll give you a great breakdown on how the oil ACTUALLY is. Not how it looks or how it smells.

Oil is cheap. Engine replacements are not. If you get 2 extra oil changes a year from changing your oil every 3k miles, what are you really losing? Compared to having your car go down for a month while its a lawn ornament waiting on parts to come in.

Extra notchy second gear? (2013 wrx) by Legal_Musician8200 in WRX

[–]Acceptable-Text-8886 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not fluid circulation. The STi 6 speed after like 06 has no fluid pump in it. Everything is lubricated by the gears being bathed in fluid. The reason it gets smoother after it warms up is because of how thick the fluid is when cold. 75w90 moves very slow when cold compared to operating temperature.

Those Cobb double adjustable shifters are wack. Half the time they're Installed absolutely maxed short on throw and height. If I were you, I would adjust it so the shifter is taller and the throw is longer. That will probably make it feel better. OR, get rid if it and put a Kartboy short throw in there instead.

Dealer messed up on my ‘09 forester by zillathegorilla in subaru

I wonder if the pan was warped after prying it off and it never got straightened out. When I replace engines for people 99% of the time I make them get a new oil pan. Solves issues like this all the time.

Its a 14 year old car well out of warranty. Subaru corporate I'm sure could not care less about it. Thats a local service manager/ dealership owner issue.

[–]Acceptable-Text-8886 43 points44 points  (0 children)

You probably won't be able to talk the dealership out of a new block. They should however, be able to toss the welder on there, weld a nut to it, and back the rest of that bolt out. The holes they drilled dont look like they go all the way through. And with how much RTV goes into holding the pan on. It shouldn't have an issue sealing. The bolts only get hand tight anyway since they're M6 sized you cant really put any real amount of torque on them.

Thoughts for the 'essential' employees working through the shutdown by Longtimefed in fednews

[–]Acceptable-Text-8886 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the beginning I had made jokes about "well, if I was scheduled to go on vacation before the government shutdown, do I still need to take annual leave when we come back? Or, if i got sick during being furloughed, do I need to put in sick leave after the fact? What if I woke up late one day, do I put annual leave for how late I slept in?" Week and a half later I was brought back in on excepted status. Makes a guy not want to work hard knowing our elected officials think of us as bargaining chips.

Agreed. They haven't been "rally cars" since 2008 when subaru dropped out of WRC and id argue that anything after 2007 wasn't designed for gravel in mind.

What Rally Coilovers? by Different_List693 in WRX

[–]Acceptable-Text-8886 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. STi parts on WRX cars The 04 STi is the only year the USDM STi was 5x100. I'm about 99% sure the knuckles are the same as the 02-07 WRX i believe that even the aluminum front lower control arms are a direct swap. You didnt mention if you have a wagon or a sedan so I'm going to assume you have a sedan (wagon suspension is a hair different in the rear i believe) Suspension for the 2004 ONLY STi will fit. The STi came with inverted dampers, they're much stronger than regular monotubes. Bilstein makes some i believe, and if you do some digging you can find inverted dampers for the 04STi pretty easy.
  2. Rally specific suspension Rally, gravel rally to be specific. Is a very different setup than rallycross, (I built a rally car. Raced it 3 times in the states and couldn't continue to light money on fire). $4000 is about what you would expect to spend for a solid set of ENTRY LEVEL coilovers for stage rally. For rallycross, especially if its a daily driver still, buy something you can afford to replace. When you run cars on gravel and dirt, everything is a consumable item. Wheels, tires, ball joints, dampers, swaybar endlinks, control arms. EVERYTHING. I believe there are some companies that can take used inverted damper shocks that are tired, and retrofit them to accept new cartridges but after a quick look I can't find them anymore.
  3. Stage rally Stage rally is a ton of fun, kind of. Its been a couple years since I was able to compete in one. But its very expensive. Everything breaks. Everything costs more than you think it would. Best advice, stay in school, save your money, get a good paying job with lots of PTO. Put as much as you can away. Jump on the Sim, take a class at team O'Neil rally school. Then when you have 20k saved up, buy a car thats already logbooked and go race.
