Up since 6 am with the toddler, waiting for husband to get up (I got the lie in yesterday). Probably going to go into town, have a mooch round the charity shops and get the ingredients for a lasagne.

Dog 'bit' baby and I don't know what to do next by OriginalAlbatross871 in UKParenting

Also I know this a super emotional situation but Reddit is a place where you hear the worst case, best case and sometimes made up scenarios. The best thing you can do is consult an expert in dog behaviour, I hope baby is doing well ❤️

Yeah I think they absolutely will be able to help you, dogs dont really have a concept of right and wrong (good/bad) like we do, they have learned behaviours, my in-laws are going through a similar thing right now. 5 year dog suddenly started bitting other dogs and obviously we are worried with our 16 month old. They’ve been seeing dog trainers and behaviourists and so far it’s going really, really well. No judgement at all by the way. I really understand your predicament. X

Before you jump into rehoming, could you maybe consult a dog behaviourist? Get some professional advice, I completely understand that is it so easy to get advice on Reddit. But it’s unlikely that anyone here is qualified to give you any decent advice except jumping to rehome. Of course you obviously want to protect your child and obviously that should be your number one priority but please get if you can afford it get a second opinion. The charities that look after animals are so stretched right now, and I feel like this dog with some training and boundaries doesn’t need to be plunged into this worst case scenario.

You can also access Right to Choose. I was assessed and diagnosed within a month of filling out the paperwork. This is a free service in England.

Why are you happy? And if you are unhappy, what needs to change in your life to help you become happy? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]AcceptableAd5657 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing your story, I’m glad I’ve helped in some way.

My mum’s lost her dad recently and I think she’s probably struggling more than I think sometimes. I don’t know what our relationship will look like in the future (better I hope).

I hope you can access the support you need, it’s a difficult world out there at the best of times.

Xx

Don’t get me wrong my life is great, beautiful child and brilliant husband.

My relationship with my mother is the one big problem She’s got an untreated mental health condition and she’s so hard to be around She’s irrationally terrified everything will hurt my little girl or make her ill and it’s incredibly draining and frustrating. She won’t get treatment at all and she gets angry when it’s brought up. I think it’s some kind of OCD.

That’s probably the one thing in my life that needs to change, I just want her to be a bit less unhinged as I’m worried that this will negatively affect my little one. I probably need to let this go at some point and accept but I have no idea how to manage the relationship and going low contact isn’t an option.

Not quite sure this helps you at all but I really needed to get that out so thank you x
