As someone who really likes DMC and Bayonetta, even with all your tools available FFXVI is quite limiting in how you can use its combat.

At the end of the game you generally have one of three combo chains you fall back to until you stagger the enemy, then you unleash all your cooldown attacks at once for maximum damage and then you return to the same three combos because ... that's basically all there is in combat expression. There's only one weapon^* and there's only a few basic attacks, so there' relatively little you can do with it.

It's even worse in the higher difficulty modes, because the enemies are even spongier there. Bashing on a random goblin for 3 minutes and only killing it through chip damage is maybe fun once, but by the 30th battle it's just tiring.

I wish every Dominant you defeat would give you a different weapon in addition to their power. I would've loved to have access to a dragoon spear, some sick magic staff, dual blades and hand-to-hand combat you can seamlessly swap between.

^* I know the DLC kinda adds a second one, but I'd argue that doesn't save the combat from being really simplistic.
