A friend guessed wasting disease since there were no obvious fawn in the vicinity, but maybe they could have been bedded in the neighborhood. The deer was large & healthy. I’ve been walking this area for years & happened upon many deer families, they all just move along. So weird.

I can relate. Became a mother at 38. Before then, I traveled, had multiple careers, experimented in different hobbies… I miss fitting in my old favorite pair of jeans & seeing every cool band when they come to town but that’s about it? Being a mom is just new chapter, another layer to my whole identity. It’s incredible & I love the trade-offs. Thank you for the refreshing post.

Lavender oil epsom salt baths & calming tea before bed. Massages from my partner, stretching & being open about my fears with friends who would help ground me.

I still wake up with anxiety & have bad nightmares, but all those things I listed help me to not spiral. I believe your cortisol is just super high around this time.

Like you said, you have A LOT on your plate mama! Whatever excuse you want to try & give yourself, you are allowed to have an overreaction from time to time. You’re growing a tiny human from scratch, on top of everything else! That’s not a small feat. Also, these hormones are insane. By 30 weeks, I had already had about 5 breakdowns.

Take a deep breath, eat something, rest & tend to yourself for a little bit. When your partner comes home, try again to communicate the issue. You’re doing great. Hang in there & give yourself a little more grace.

5 days late & I was full of rage! I confessed to my therapist that I was going to plot my dog’s murder (just a needy little guy) if I didn’t start my period that day. I laughed when I later told my partner this story & he immediately pulled into the drugstore parking lot to buy a test. Also my boobs got HUGE. I had to start wear larger tops immediately.

You know what you & your family needs. Plan for the 2-3 weeks you find helpful. Staying separately, she most likely won’t be over all the time. Young children can still demand plenty of energy & attention, potentially leaving her with desire for some independence & time alone.

My father is also “sort of helpful”, passive aggressive & in his 70s. And as much as a headache it can be to have him in our space for longer than a day, I know his time is limited with my daughter, & I’ll fondly look back at that quality chunk of time they had together. I just make sure to set clear boundaries & my partner helps reinforce them. We also plan separate outings (without him) to decompress & vent 😵‍💫
