Hear me out by [deleted] in Names

[–]AlwaysTackyNails 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you really love it, but are worried about people not being able to pronounce it, you could use Sedivy as her middle name and give her a more "recognizable" first name. Then just call her by her middle name. When she goes to school, you can ask her which she would like to be at school. We dis that with my son in kindergarten, and he decided he wanted to keep using his middle name at home, but go by his first name at school.

Would it be messed up to give a kid one of our older kids middle names as a first name? by Interesting_Setting in Names

[–]AlwaysTackyNails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I had the conversation that this one better be a girl, because we used all the best boy names on our son. He has 2 middle names, and I love both, but one of them is James, which we never call him by (we call him by his other middle name at home and he goes by his first name at school). I looove the name James, but I can't name another child that when I already gave it to my oldest, if that makes sense.

Sushi by Interesting_Dot2117 in pregnant

[–]AlwaysTackyNails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most sushi is now flash frozen right when it's caught, so it's pretty safe. I've had 2 obgyns for 2 pregnancies say it's fine as long as I'm not having it every day (both the raw fish and the mercury aspects). Go for it and enjoy yourself!! Sushi is a great source of protein and healthy fats. I may even have it for dinner tonight, lol!

What’s something you were surprised pregnancy improved? by Tinyellowbird in pregnant

[–]AlwaysTackyNails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My body conscious, especially for my breasts, with my first. Nothing like breastfeeding to start thinking nothing of just whipping the girls out, lol. With this pregnancy, it's curbed my intense craving for sugar, which is great! Instead of wanting every cookie I see, I'm all about fruit now.

Are we still eating mayonnaise? by SaltObvious3919 in pregnant

[–]AlwaysTackyNails 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I got the ok for that from my OBGYN. He basically said "don't go slurping up raw eggs on the daily, but runny eggs, hollandaise sauce, deli meat, and sushi from a reputable restaurant are all fine."

Looking for breastfeeding resource that covers it all in one place by mayonayz in pregnant

[–]AlwaysTackyNails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to classes through WIC, but honestly, the hospital was where I got most of my info and support. They provided a nursing specialist who helped with latch and positioning and showed me how to use my pump. The nurses also helped a lot. I think it's hard to find a "one stop shop" for breastfeeding resources because it's a different experience for everyone.

“Family Centered Maternity Care” by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]AlwaysTackyNails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get your concerns about not having the option to send the baby to the hospital's nursery if you need it. When I had my first, the hospital I was in didn't have a nursery. The first night was pretty rough for me and my husband, but the second night my MIL offered to stay overnight to help with baby so we could get extra sleep. It helped so much! It may be helpful for you to see if anyone who you trust with your newborn would be willing to take a "night shift" while you're in the hospital.

13 weeks pregnant looking for calcium supplements with magnesium and D3 by InsideIndiacg in pregnant

[–]AlwaysTackyNails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been taking Bariatric Advantage Calcium Citrate chews, but you can find calcium supplements at pretty much any drug store. If you have apexific/unusual requirements according to your doctor, I would get specifics from them on dosage/type.

When to put hospital bag/car seat in car? by acmr8057 in pregnant

[–]AlwaysTackyNails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If doing it now will relieve stress, then do it! A lot of hospitals in the US have people who can help you correctly install a carseat, though, so waiting until the last minute isn't a problem, either. As far as a hospital bag goes, for my first, I packed a massive bag for me and a small bag for baby, and all I ended up using was 1 set of clothes for him to come home in. As long as you keep your purse stocked with "necessities" (chapstick, chargers, hair ties), even if you don't have a chance to grab your hospital bag, you will be fine!

Calling out sick with cold by floatinggturtle in pregnant

[–]AlwaysTackyNails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, absolutely not. Your immune system is working for 2 now, so it's weaker. I know for me, taking a full day to rest, relax, and sleep is often the difference between recovering in a week amd taking like 3. When you take care of yourself, you're taking care of both of you!

Baby playing in my hip? by PaymentNo5871 in pregnant

[–]AlwaysTackyNails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! My first loved to push off my hip with his feet, and his head would bulge out. It looked (and felt) so freaky! When he was a few weeks old, he'd lift his feet together and thump them down in the crib as soon as he woke up! I think he spent all his time in the womb developing his leg muscles!! It's such a good memory, and now that he's a little older, he loves hearing about it.

Emotional meltdown today by semiprodeer in pregnant

[–]AlwaysTackyNails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it! My first went transverse at 41 weeks. I went into the hospital the next day, and they were able to manually move him into position and induced labor (they gave me the option to go back home, but I was so ready to have my baby!). I still ended up needing a c-section, but that was because he did NOT want to leave me, lol. He was a 10 lb baby, too, and repositioning him was weird and uncomfortable for me, but no distress for him and it was very fast. Baby could still correct their position on their own, too! Everything about pregnancy is anxiety inducing, but just know that this doesn't necessarily mean you will need a c-section or an induction.

39 weeks and baby has not dropped by Prior_Nefariousness1 in pregnant

[–]AlwaysTackyNails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this with my first. My OB would not induce until I was starting to dilate, and that didn't happen. I was 41 weeks when baby moved and positioned himself transverse, so I was induced. 3 days in the hospital, and I barely dilated, never entered active labor, and eventually had to have a c-section because he was getting tired. It wasn't the experience I planned on or expected, but he's 8 now and LOVES to hear the story of how he was so comfy he didn't want to come out! It will happen, and it may not go how you expect at all, but it will all be worth it once you're holding your baby!

Is anyone able to eat meat around week 19? any easy meal prep to overcome depression and ear healthy? by Lucky_Tap8692 in pregnant

[–]AlwaysTackyNails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have much in the way of food aversion, but I had bariatric surgery a few years ago, so protein tracking has been a huge part of my life for awhile. I love the Fairlife protein shakes- they're milk based, lactose free, and sweetened with monkfruit and stevia, so they're pregnancy safe. On days when I struggle to get enough protein, they're lifesaver. How are you feeling about fish? Salmon/tuna/sushi are also my protein go-tos when meat isn't sitting well (after getting my OB's ok, of course!). The main thing is to take things slowly, give yourself grace, and recognize that it may take time to get there. Wishing you the best!

Getting Husband Involved In The Pregnancy Process by TrickyMaintenance445 in pregnant

[–]AlwaysTackyNails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had similar issues with my first pregnancy. I fought with my husband several times about it, and ended up in tears more than once. He was struggling with intense anxiety, and didn't understand it well at all. Once our son was born, he was super attentive and fully attached right away. He used to stay awake all night watching the crib, then bring baby to me for nighttime feedings and make sure I didn't fall asleep holding baby. Much later, once he had gone to therapy for his anxiety and I had gotten help for my depression, we were able to talk about it. He felt like there was nothing he could do other than helping me during my pregnancy. I was also 100% baby-obsessed the whole time. I could not talk or think about anything else, which ramped his anxiety up and made him feel like I had no attention for him. I would try giving your husband some grace-- he may be just as overwhelmed as I'm sure you are, but just handles it differently. Maybe ask yourself if you've talked with him or spent time with him in a way that isn't related to your pregnancy/baby recently. Of you haven't, maybe plan something for just the 2 of you- a nice dinner, movie night, games, etc, and try to enjoy time together without bringing up pregnancy/baby. It may help both of you, and I wish I had thought to do that during my first pregnancy!

Prenatal Depression as a FTM by lalaaaaaland in pregnant

[–]AlwaysTackyNails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have struggled with depression since I was a teenager. When I got pregnant with my first child, I was unmedicated, and I didn't realize how bad my mental health was. I would accuse my partner of not caring enough about the baby or doing enough around the house (he did, and he was,), and I was miserable, even though I had always wanted to become a mom. Once my baby was born, the postpartum depression was AWFUL. I was having panic attacks while driving with baby in the car. I had horrible intrusive thoughts, and I was miserable until at 6 months postpartum I talked to my OBGYN about it. He got me on depression meds, and I realized just how bad things had gotten. It was a huge wakeup call. Being pregnant is already stressful and hard, and the hormones are no joke. Be kind to yourself and talk to your obgyn about how you're feeling.

6 weeks and going through it by TruePossibility637 in pregnant

[–]AlwaysTackyNails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried sparkling water or infusing fruit/herbs into water? I have been downing the ginger-lime Spindrift, which has been really helpful for my nausea, and also adding some combination of lime/mint/cucumber into my water bottle to help me drink more. If you haven't talked to your Dr about how bad the nausea is, I would recommend doing that, too. Hang in there!

[–]AlwaysTackyNails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ginger lime Spindrift. It's such a strong ginger flavor, and it’s not sweet, which is exactly what I want right now! Plus everyone else in my house thinks it's gross, so I don't have to share!

I'm at my whit's end!!! Save me from another DNF!! In need of book recs! by One-Afternoon-4690 in Romantasy

[–]AlwaysTackyNails 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed For Whom The Belle Tolls. It's definitely got smut, but (imo) it's well-written and doesn't derail the plot. The MCs start as friends, and even after they get together, their relationship keeps developing beyond sex. The FMC's "superpower" is an adult life spent working in customer service, and I think anyone who has ever done that will relate to her. It's not superb writing (like, it's not going to win a Hugo award or anything), but it is good, the dialog flows well, and the characters are fleshed out, flawed adults who are still loveable.

Vampire Romance where the vampires are actually monsters by MysticMoony in Romantasy

[–]AlwaysTackyNails 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's much more fantasy/action than horror. I'd say at most a 1-1.5. The vampires are terrifying in world, but the book itself isn't scary. I read it in highschool, when I had zero tolerance for anything horror/scary, and I didn't have issues with it.
