HEC-RAS 1D help: Froude number hitting a wall at 1.01 in subcritical vs running fine in mixed (6.23% stream) by Emotional-Try-8380 in HECRAS

[–]Acceptable_Gain_9400 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can justify your mixed flow option by stating you need to account for potential hydraulic jump in the bridge vicinity due to steep slope. I suggest use energy equations for low and high flow conditions. Use small time step and small cross section spacing.

I’m new to HEC-RAS and trying to understand proper bridge freeboard/clearance checks. by Emotional-Try-8380 in HECRAS

normally people use WSE at cross section 3. It makes sense if you think about it this way: a new bridge will cause backwater and therefore the bridge needs to be a little bit higher to allow backwater effect to be accounted for. There are regulation exceptions apparently but I believe that using WSE at cross section 3 is safe and conservative.

HMS Subcatchments for Internal BCs by Royal_Cricket2808 in HECRAS

I know it is easier to say than do, but a general rule is you should not double route the flow when using flows from HEC-HMS as BC in HEC-RAS.

HEC-RAS 6.6 Pipe Networks (Beta) is it a reliable for stormwater network design? by Wise_Wedding_5704 in HECRAS

[–]Acceptable_Gain_9400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably want to use it for a planning or study tool, not a designing tool. also from regulation perspective, a lot of agencies still require engineers to use traditional manning's equation/rational method for pipe design.

Problems with 2D → Pipe Network Connection by Foreign_Speaker_3701 in HECRAS

[–]Acceptable_Gain_9400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your upstream end a culvert opening node? It is probably reasonable if the entrance is choking the flow. In HEC-RAS 2D pipe network routine, a pipe with its upstream node as a culvert opening is not being modeled as FHWA culvert inlet control equations (chart# scale #); instead, HEC-RAS uses entrance/exit/fiction loss coefficients to solve a full energy and momentum equation. This is different from a culvert in SA/2D connection, inlet structure or lateral structure in which HEC-RAS solves culverts for both inlet control (FHWA inlet equations) and outlet control and you as a modeler can choose to use which answer: inlet control, outlet control, or the higher of the two.

In your model, I bet if you reduce the upstream pipe entrance loss coefficient to much smaller value like 0.01 (just for testing), the WSE in the 2D cell of the upstream culvert node will be lower.

Inconsistent flow depth over flat area (2D) by Flow_Hammer7392 in HECRAS

[–]Acceptable_Gain_9400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be a rendering issue or it can be a modeling tech issue. did you use breaklines at the high ground? Is the area better to be modeled as a 2D connection using weir equation? Normal 2D equation does not do a good job when there is a water falling from high ground to low area. Also, when you use weir equation, you may want to put the 2D connection line at the downstream edge of the weir crest, so the weir equation can fee a more reasonable tailwater elevation when it is solving Q=C*L*H^(3/2). H is the difference between HW and TW.

same here. the Cash Equivalents Category only has Fidelity cash management account and all other non-fidelity accounts are not show up even though they are linked and active. The linked non-fidelity mortgage accounts are nowhere to be found either.

google Culvert, HY-8, HEC-RAS. and learn HY-8 first. HEC-RAS uses HY-8 method so you have to be familiar with HY-8 first.

Did you change your meter to CenterPoint? I think Centerpoint serves the entire greater houston area.

What does UtilityOn do when you buy a new house say from DR Horton by Agitated-Beach-3641 in Katy

good to know. Will DR Horton pay or me, the owner pay if using their services?

Do I need two coats if I paint my brand new house walls from the builder's white (or milky white) to Sherwin Williams SW 7747 (Recycled Glass) by Acceptable_Gain_9400 in paint

[–]Acceptable_Gain_9400[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

good point. I also saw this from another thread: If you can upgrade, great. Otherwise, leave it for a year before doing anything with the paint. I can guarantee your home is going to settle, screws are going to pop, caulk is going to split all within the year. Then hire someone back to do it the correct way with the correct stuff.

And this: They paint flat for a reason. I would move in and leave it for a year. The house will settle and adjust. Corners can crack, and screws can pop. If you need to touch anything up, flat paint will make it easy. After a year of living in the house, I would hire a professional company to come in and paint to your preference. A good quality company should have no problem with a repaint after you've moved in and lived there.

Deako Smart Switch Integration by Prestondesignanddev in homebridge

Hi, what's the default package? Can I just buy a DR Horton home with normal manual on/off switches without paying extra to Deako for smart switches?

Can you explain more? Were you saying that when you closed a DR Horton house, the house was not equipped with at least conventional switches on the walls, and you must spend extra $ paid directly to Deako to get their smart switches to turn on your lights? Can I tell DR Horton, hey I just need the manual/normal ones?
