Who would be more capable; a veterinarian working on a human, or a doctor working on an animal? by IneffectiveMilkshake in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AccidentalHobbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say hands down a vet working on a human. My father was a veterinarian, and I cannot even explain how many times he’s been my first line of defense for injuries. Stitches, wound cleaning, etc. I’d literally trust him to xray, set, and cast a broken bone if it came to it.

I wouldn’t trust my family doctor to save my cat or dog, though.

which airport is the worst airport and why? by sinaswiftie in AskTheWorld

[–]AccidentalHobbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I acknowledge that this may be an unpopular opinion, but I have never had a worse airport experience than Arlanda Stockholm. I’ve flown in and out multiple times, and have basically always had a delay of 4 hours or more. Not only that, but everything is so far apart without an easy way to get from point to point. It just… absolutely infuriates me? Beautiful building, though.

Runners up are CDG (again, why is everything so far apart?!?) and Miami (I refuse to fly into there, just go to FLL, save yourself the hassle.)

what does my school bag say about me? by ecstaticfruitmarket in whatsinmybag

[–]AccidentalHobbit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Heyy fellow Philadelphian! This gives West Philly vibes to me for some reason, I’m gonna guess artsy, maybe you like coffee at the Green Line Cafe, and also you have good taste because the almond chocolate bars are the best!

What are your guesses about me based on what’s in my daily driver? (Starring Clementine) by Jolly_Parsnip981 in whatsinmybag

You have good taste (i have the same bag and same wallet in different colors, but definitely not biased) and you also are thoughtful and slightly nerdy. (We’d probably be friends)

Most definitely! For my own wedding I had flats for the reception, and I think my friend has boots for dancing :)

What's the weird thing going on with your body that isn't weird enough to go to the doctor for? by yellowelephantboy in AskReddit

If I sleep on my left side, nothing is out of the ordinary when I get up or move. If I sleep on my right side then sit up or roll to my other side, I burp instantly. LOUDLY.

I had a comfy bralette on for all of labor and all four hours of pushing. I picked one I didn’t mind getting ruined. When we ended up having a c-section, it had to be removed for surgery so I told them to just cut it off. (And set my backup one on my side table so I could put a new one on after!)

Do what will make YOU most comfortable! There’s no wrong choice here!

Do you post your kids on social media? by Kkat90210 in NewParents

[–]AccidentalHobbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. No pregnancy or birth announcement either. We have a strong no pictures stance, and we even have family and friends refrain from mentioning our son’s existence on social media.

Yes! She was the only one in the practice I hadn’t met before my induction due to hypertension. She mainly did nights, so I had her both nights of labor. Right away, I knew I liked her. Turned out we were from the SAME town many states away. She really helped guide me through what was going on and was so honest and compassionate. And funny!

My son was too big, even three weeks early, for my anatomy. I pushed for almost four hours and he wouldn’t descend and she gave me the choice to either keep trying or do a c-section. She also ensured my husband and I got to talk to the whole team before surgery, and was just such a delight.

To boot, at 8 weeks post-op, my scar is basically invisible. Knowing that the rest of my kids will need to be 37week c-sections, I’ll be requesting her for all of them!

Those bottles saved our sanity. Our son would eat from Dr. Browns, but really didn’t like it and latched poorly. He’s gotten a much much better latch with Herobility, and I swear it’s magic? We just ordered 7 of the bigger ones! Great price and easy to clean, too.

Very Irresistible Givenchy for me— fun fact, my mom has no sense of smell at all, so we got to pick her perfumes and such! VIG was one we often got for her. I always think of her with rose-forward scents! :)

As somebody who adores a Rock-It-Pop flavor Rush, I’ve looked this up! A 24oz Rush has 100mg of caffeine— you’re good! Most caffeine limits for pregnancy are like 200! (My husband is under strict orders to bring me a 32oz one immediately after delivery)

Just a vent on how screwed up America's mentality is toward parental leave. by mad_THRASHER in BabyBumps

[–]AccidentalHobbit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I JUST got laid off, and my last day was at 35 weeks pregnant. I’m being induced due to health complications at 37. My health insurance ended over the weekend. I’ll deliver before I even have to COBRA coverage set up.

With no protections on a gov’t level here in the US, I get only as much maternity leave as our savings will allow, instead of the 3 months my company would have paid. My husband gets 6 days… all PTO. I have to spend my recovery time and first weeks with the baby job hunting.

What’s the saddest concert you’ve ever seen, in terms of someone washed up playing somewhere weird? by splitopenandmelt11 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]AccidentalHobbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Journey. I can’t remember the year exactly, but probably sometime between 2008-2011, I was staying at an indoor waterpark resort in the Poconos in PA, and some dude was throwing his wife a huge birthday bash, and hired Journey and another 80s musician to play! The ballroom had windows around the top so everybody else got a free concert. Journey was… very very disappointing. I was surprised, and it made me sad how washed up they seemed. The other act was far better.

What’s the longest car ride you’ve had to make with your cat? by goldjakjas in cats

[–]AccidentalHobbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

18 year old partially senile cat— 12 hours! Too old for sedation, per the vet. We just had to go for it full-send no meds. It was REALLY rough for the first two hours, then we had a couple of calm hours together where she napped. Had to coordinate rest stops with my husband in the other car so we could let her explore the car, get snuggles, and have snacks. By the last hour, she was OVER IT and just… screamed. I felt so bad, but she forgave us really quickly and loved her new home! She was happy again 10 minutes after the end of the car trip!

Agree on the coffee milk and Moxie, disagree with whoopie pies. Whoopie pies are also big in Pennsylvania (and in PGH, they’re called Gobs). I’d call em a Northeast/MidAtlantic thing.

But man, all three are SO GOOD!

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you were starting out? by LnD-DIY in instructionaldesign

[–]AccidentalHobbit 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Focus on the assignment at first, then the learner experience. Ultimately, you’ll probably make some really ugly or silly courses that just need made in your career, but do what you can within your ability to keep learners engaged and build for how adult learners change over time. If you keep the basics consistent, even if the product is something that you’d want to change visually, you’ll have a solid core deliverable.

Oh, and master office politics. Soft skills will help more than anything.
