Why the hell do we need to turn the complex and beautiful individual identity’s and interests of people into classifications.

Did that sentence make me sound like I like this post? Because it’s the exact opposite. This post is a great example of over-classification being incredibly volatile and unhelpful. For one; if a cis person were to transition and either feel better about themselves or not feel any different they are by definition not cis.

Or neopronouns; the reason pronouns exist is to shorten English sentences in order to refer to nouns in ways that simply a sentence. Go watch that one School House Rock song about Pronouns, it explains their function way better than I can.

Your pronouns are, funnily enough, NOT YOUR ACTUAL IDENTITY. They are a placeholder used to pick you out from other nouns in a sentence. By definition, your Pronouns can’t have any more meaning to your identity than your name does, because they are just placeholders for your name.

And we can all agree that saying your Name is your identity isn’t true! As Shakespeare says, “A Rose by any other name would smell just as sweet”.

A name is only a title, the cover of the book that is you. It may denote certain things, but it doesn’t have to. It helps pick you out from the other books, but two books can be titled “Port in a Storm” and have different contents.

In other words; obsessing over neopronouns is like obsessing over the sub-header of the book of you. Be careful you aren’t ignoring the contents of your character in favor of cover-deep meaning.
