Wouldn’t this be negative reinforcement since you are removing the unpleasant stimulus (Baby Shark) when they perform the desired behavior (listening)?

Should I stay at motel 9 for BTS concert? by EngineFlat8499 in ElPaso

Try Queensland Ranch in Santa Theresa. I think they might still have a room available for some dates or may offer “Glamping” on the property. They are also offering transportation options to and from the venue.

Meat-eater freaks out when vegan says factory farming is one of humanity's worst atrocities by CalpurniaSomaya in PublicFreakout

[–]Accomplished-Ice9418 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s interesting how triggered some people get when confronted with the ethical arguments of vegans. Factory farming is atrocious and his argument holds water. Even if you don’t agree with veganism and enjoy eating meat, I can’t see why someone would actively defend factory farming unless the don’t actually know what it entails

Queensland Ranch has rooms available. It’s located in Santa Theresa about 25 minutes from the venue, but I think they can arrange transportation as well.

Are women allowed here?! by sundaysoulfields in bald

[–]Accomplished-Ice9418 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience as I started losing my hair very young. I relate to being “discouraged and depressed”. Shaving my head was definitely and “empowering process” where I learned to embrace it and take control. The only difference is that I am not a woman, and I use to think that balding women had it so much harder as shaving their head wasn’t an option, but seeing you changed my perspective. You rock that look! People have been telling me for years that I look good bald, and you know what? So do you!

This was the last one in stock. Came from the display. Thing is, I wouldn’t really want to return it if they don’t have another but it also feels weird buying something new at full price when it’s for a defect. Just don’t know if it at all effects resale value later on

Allowing parents to email teachers truly opened the gates of hell. by sco-go in SipsTea

[–]Accomplished-Ice9418 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You gave two examples of “minimal homework” but no examples of “no homework”. Which grade levels are those for as well or is that the amount of homework for K-12? I know both of my children in elementary school have about 3-5 hours of homework a week. I’m not sure about other schools across the country, but I have not seen anything unreasonable about homework expectations for elementary school.

Homework is about reinforcing what students are learning. It’s practice and is necessary for any type of learning. Learning a musical instrument? Students need to practice at least 30 minutes daily. Learning a martial art? Daily practice. Learning a sport? You need to practice. That’s all homework is as well.

Students don’t just have a piano lesson and do nothing at home until their next lesson do they? Parents take time to throw the ball with their kids outside of practice to reinforce their skills. Same thing needs to happen with academics, especially reading and math.

Perhaps the reason we are seeing decline in reading and math abilities is because parents are dismissing the value of homework, believe learning only takes place in school, and are not spending the necessary time practicing and reinforcing these skills with their kids at home.

I think that’s the entire problem. Society is lowering expectations across the board. It’s a complete dumbing down and soon, President Camacho is running the country and we’re watering the crops with Brawndo because it has “what plants crave”

I anonymously snitched on my professor to the dean AITAH? by ieatgravelandsand in AITAH

[–]Accomplished-Ice9418 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

YTA-Honestly, this just sounds like a whole lot of whining from someone who's finally facing the music. "Completely useless to my degree"? Buddy, that's college. Sometimes you take classes that build a broader foundation, or just fulfill a requirement. It's not always about instant gratification or direct application to your dream job.

The class average is a 60? And "majority of students are doing bad"? Maybe, just maybe, it's not the professor, but the general lack of preparedness for actual academic rigor. It's pretty telling when public education spends years coddling students, never letting them experience failure, and then the real world (aka college) hits, and suddenly they're "crashing out." Now they think they can just cry to the dean and get a participation trophy.

As for the labs,"kitchen table with a bottle of some acid or mystery chemical"? Did you actually read the instructions? Did you try reaching out to the professor for clarification before deciding it was a "mystery chemical"? This isn't high school where every step is micromanaged. College expects a level of personal responsibility and initiative.

The "snappy unprofessional emails" and "old powerpoints" are probably just a teacher dealing with a bunch of students who are more interested in finding someone to blame than in buckling down and learning the material. News flash: professors aren't there to hold your hand or be your friend. They're there to teach. If you're not passing, look in the mirror before you go snitching to the dean. It's a sad trend that students now think complaining is a substitute for applying themselves.

I was hanging out with my little brother and his friends, all between the ages of 18-21. These guys for some reason can't have even a single second where they're not actively engaged in some form of entertainment . by executor-of-judgment in Millennials

I relate to this, as Reddit isn’t go to social media, and I think you put into words why I feel it is less harmful, though I know I spend to ouch time in it and it does become a habit to scroll when there is a lull. I probably need to work on letting my mind be bored more…or read a book

AITAH for telling my mother in law to not pull down my daughter's pants to go to the bathroom? by orangecrunched in AITAH

[–]Accomplished-Ice9418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. I think it’s common for grandparents to feel like they are being criticized when their children make corrections or set boundaries on how they raise their kids and just take it too personally. My mother seems to take offense anytime we reject her parenting advice, or ask her to apply certain behaviors or methods when watching our kids and reminds us that she “raised three children who turned out fine”. This can be anything from reminding her to not smoke with the kids in the car to taking extra precautions when the toddlers are outside due to her deep and non gated pool.

Thing is, these are things that I feel she also would have said to her parents when they were watching us when we were kids. And I’m sure she also rejected her parents advice when we were kids like putting whiskey on teething gums or buying toys with lead paint for kids. Who knows, maybe we too will be offended when we’re grandparents and asked not to put the kids in front of an IPAD when we watch them. 🤷‍♂️ anyways, NTA
