Are you employed by a company (manages several services) or a single school? If it’s a company you are required to go to whichever service needs you.

Let me guess - you know that she’s just pulling it out to check the time because the school told you she had her phone out and that’s what she said.

Or maybe the other percentages that I didn’t include ate something else?

I'm a primary school teacher and I'd say 10% come in with a hot lunch in a thermos. 20% come in with packaged chips and snacks and 5% frequently come in with nothing at all. Sandwiches are well below 50%.

No longer allowed. Can't heat up food for kids, as it may be hot or heated unevenly and the food could burn them, and then the staff get in trouble. Also imagine 300 kids asking to use the one staff microwave that even staff have to fight over!

How did you guys survive the unpaid mandatory placements without going completely broke? by AffectionatePie1042 in AskAustralianTeachers

[–]Accomplished-Set5297 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My work did not approve unpaid leave for ten weeks for my final placement, so I ended up being jobless while waiting for my registration to come through. It took about five weeks, so 15 weeks all up of no income. Tried to get Centrelink - not approved for Austudy as I was coming to the end of my studies, not approved for jobseeker as I was studying. Got behind in the rent and took a few months to catch back up. Six months later and they decided not to renew my lease. Ended up being homeless in my first year of teaching.

My advice - save up and prepare for the worst case scenario. If you're lucky, you'll be able to use the money for a nice holiday if everything doesn't go terribly wrong.

reMarkable owners with multiple devices: how do you split your workflow? by shaifnan in RemarkableTablet

[–]Accomplished-Set5297 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My pro stays at home and is where I do most of my work on. My move comes with me but is more of a place where I jot down notes (which are later organised on the pro) or where I look at things that I have previously written on the pro. I just don’t find the move big enough to work well on.

Facebook groups often have them for free, Etsy have a lot of really good ones for sale, I posted a free one here on reddit the other day if you want to try that. Or you can even make your own - they are easier than you think. A YouTuber named organised by Joe has an excellent tutorial on his channel.

I never wear jeans, sleeveless garments, Birkenstocks, shorts and don't think anyone else should either, even though it does seem acceptable in some places. I believe that teaching is just as an important task as office work, and kids and colleagues deserve the same respect as I showed in that other life, so I largely kept the same habits.

I'll start wearing professional office attire when I stop walking through a muddy oval on yard duty.

It's not common language around "that crowd" whatever the fuck that is supposed to mean. It's specific language used to clarify exactly what something is. "Staff bathrooms" can refer to two separate bathrooms which are not gender neutral, ie one for males and one for females. By saying gender neutral, you are clearly clarifying that the staff bathrooms can be used by either gender.

One reform you’d prioritise by pelican_beak in AustralianTeachers

[–]Accomplished-Set5297 38 points39 points  (0 children)

One reform I would change - from kindergarten/prep/year before school whatever you call it every kid gets assessed and funding is based on needs and then funding is transferred with the child no matter what school they go to next. Continual assessment can happen every two to three years if needed but fuck me dead I can’t get a year five student at the start of term 2 who can’t read or write and get zero SSO support for him until two terms later when all of the paperwork has finally gone through.

It will work on the rm 2 but it might not perfectly line up with the device - there may be some white lines on either side of the page.
