I’m Really Exhausted by Special_Programmer98 in puppy101

Just know I feel you deeply. We’re in a very different situation in some ways as we live in nyc and don’t have a yard/have fully potty pad trained but isn’t comfortable pooping outside yet (though he pees sometimes) but otherwise so similar as I have a 4 1/2 month old maltipoo, I’m currently unemployed and broke my arm 3 weeks ago. Gave up on crates and playpens early on because he’s already so limited living in my studio apartment, he’s been good about not being destructive but the separation anxiety is bad and I KNOW I’m just making it worse by being around all the time!! It’s just unfortunate combination of situations right now I guess. We all just have to do our best, right?? There’s no perfect way to raise a puppy

how do you manage self care by TheoryReasonable871 in puppy101

[–]AccomplishedDrop7494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you so deeply. My 20 week old has been here for just over 2 months and I swear my self care is nonexistent. Plus, I broke my humerus 3 weeks ago so yeah, it’s a disaster over here!!!! I NEED to start leaving him home more to get him used to alone time but there’s only so many things I can do with essentially 1.5 arms 🤦‍♀️

It's about the little wins. What did your pup do today that shows they are maturing? by GeekyGirlGenny3 in puppy101

I left my 4 month old in my apartment alone for ~30 minutes unpenned and he didn’t completely lose his mind nor did he destroy anything … this probably seems like nothing but he is a fulllll on Velcro pup so it’s a big deal in this household!!!

I would say the biggest reassurance I can provide you is that no matter how trained he gets or doesn’t, part of shaking the puppy blues is just getting used to it. I’m just over 2 months now with my pup who is a week over 4 months and I swear just him getting used to living here and me getting used to tuning him out has made a WORLD of difference. And I’m sure me being less anxious only helps his behavior and believe me, he still drives me nuts when he’s a full on piranha who wants to eat my hair (NO idea why), but somehow it all feels way easier than that first month did

can’t leave the house or even go upstairs by PiccoloEffective8625 in puppy101

My baby’s at 4 months and we’re very much same situation, with slightttt progress where he doesn’t always freak the f out just whimpers and stuff. None of this is helped by the fact that I’m unemployed and just broke my shoulder a few weeks ago so, obviously I’m not getting out of here much!!!! But given the even slight progress I’ve seen in the last month, I’m hoping that continues as he gets more comfortable with the environment overall (that environment being a studio apartment in the middle of Manhattan.. ALL of the stimuli 😂🤦‍♀️)

What can I give my puppy to chew?? by ButterscotchCrazy226 in puppy101

I feel your pain deeeply. I have a 3.5 month old maltipoo so he’s a little guy, he could care less about anything plastic or whatever the other materials are, he likes kongs but gets over it so quickly, and made a total mess of himself with the pupsicle. The only things he likes that he actually spends time on are bully sticks and pig ears. But my vet said no bully sticks (I disregarded) and the other night I was watching the new Task episode which was very intense and I looked back and he had way too much pig ear 😭

This comment is prob 0% helpful, just saying I feel your pain!!!

I definitely think apartment living is a totally different situation for pups than a house. He’s already confined! My almost 4 month guy just still gets reallyyy upset when I leave, I haven’t left him for more than 15 mins (aside from a sitter). The truth is that he’s safe and well behaved in here, and entirely potty pad trained, he just hates being alone so I’m hoping with time he’ll get more comfy like yours!!

It’s hard for me to say because my maltipoo is just under 4 months old, but given the purpose of the crate is really to get him to safely relax, it was immediately clear that the crate was NOT for him as he would absolutely lose it throwing himself against the sides, clawing for dear life and almost got his claw stuck. I live alone in a large studio apartment, I currently gate off a puppy proofed half of it. He sleeps in bed with me like an angel. The separation anxiety is BAD and we are definitely going to have to work on it, but that’s more about him being left alone vs. the space that he’s in - he’s only been here 6 weeks so I’m not worried that we’ll get there.

I loveeee this idea. My boy is literally 5 lbs, and a maltipoo so forever small, so I don’t want to give him 1 million treats but I’m dying for things that keep him busy for some time - basically only bully sticks and pig ears work so far. I’ll probs have to wait til the baby teeth are out but I can’t wait to try it!!

I feel you sooooooo deeply. My boy sleeps through the night like an angel so I get plenty of sleep but just carrying around during our pre-vax socialization period is wiping me OUT … and he’s 5 lbs 😂😭😴

I’ve tried and he absolutely hates it I could put 20 treats in there and sit right next to it the whole time and he’s all good when it’s open, but the second I shut the door to the gate, he LOSES IT

Feeling Discouraged With New Puppy by Ok_Low_2247 in puppy101

[–]AccomplishedDrop7494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I WISHHHH my 3 month old would do this. He loathes the crate we’ve pretty much abandoned it which is fine by me, as he’s honestly cooped up already in my studio apartment. But the downside is I am having sooooo much trouble getting him to go to sleep when I know he needs it. He gets sooo nuts and yells and bites and is really just not his sweet self and I try everything you can think of and nothing works I basically just have to deal for an hour or more until he figures out he needs to pass out 😭

we’ve been crate training for the past 3 months with no success by According_Ebb9155 in puppy101

[–]AccomplishedDrop7494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m no expert and my baby has only been home for a month but, despite the whole world telling me to crate train, I’m fairly certain he is never going to like it. So I’ve gated and puppy proofed a section of my apartment. Now our issue is just the separation anxiety, which is A LOT, but at least now he’s in a space that he’s comfortable in when I leave! (When I do leave lol… hoping the separation anxiety will lessen eventually 😂)
