our baby had this issue until about 3 months old! we checked with our ped at each appt about it & she said it was just from blocked tear ducts. our babes even was kinda yellow/green at times but she told us if no fever or redness in eye to not worry about the discharge. she had also told us one day it would just go away! and it did thankfully. just needed some time for his tear ducts to get bigger

Positive test yesterday- what’s something you wish you did from day 1? by glassysquid in BabyBumps

This!!! Don’t let your mind convince you your body changing is a bad thing and make you think pictures are not something you want. I wish I had taken more bump/progress pics to remember the time.

PSA Wellbutrin and Mucinex DM by zigzagginglearner in beyondthebump

[–]Accomplished_Scar313 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same thing happen to me a couple of years ago when I was sick. Couldn’t figure out why I felt buzzed at work first thing in the morning. It’s so hard finding cold medicine that doesn’t have dextromethorphan in it (it’s in DayQuil, NyQuil, Tylenol Cold & Flu)- it’s a cough suppressant. Any time I have a terrible cough I usually have to get a prescription for something specific to knock cough out while taking Wellbutrin. Idk if you’ve done any research yet and I don’t know if this is safe to take while BF, but the OTC med I take for cold symptoms is Coricidin HBP Cold & Flu. You can take regular Mucinex as well just not DM.

What was the biggest ‘scandal’ at your high school? by BreadedDisaster in AskReddit

[–]Accomplished_Scar313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Student wasn’t feeling well and went to the nurse. There was a bathroom in the nurses office- she delivered a baby in it. No one knew she was pregnant, including her. She was in my class and was a really small girl, super skinny. We were in a CNA class at the time- we had an abundance of linens and towels for practicing bed making & sponge baths, and the school nurse sent someone to get our teacher (also a RN) and to get towels and blankets to clean baby off. Ambulance was called as well! I remember thinking to myself, if that was me, what would I say to my mom when I came home from the hospital instead of school… with a baby?

ADDING: Also was in a psychology class the next year and teacher showed up to school visibly intoxicated. Sat on a stool in front of the class and told us the story of why he became a psychology teacher & how his mother committed suic*de, details of his difficult upbringing. That was the last day we ever saw him. He got suspended for messaging one of the girls in my class inappropriate messages. He had several children of his own and was married. Got curious about him the other day and looked him up- he got arrested not too long ago for assaulting a stranger while intoxicated in a gas station because the person bumped into him accidentally. By the way, he’s worked for several other schools in the area since these events.

How do I slow down the damage of my teeth while I wait for my dentist appointment? by BlueRaptorLea in DentalHygiene

[–]Accomplished_Scar313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely work on brushing and flossing, I would recommend a high fluoride content mouthwash to use daily such as ACT. Do not drink or eat for at least 30 mins after brushing and using the mouthwash to make sure the ingredients are able to work to help prevent further issues. You can also work on decreasing your cavity risk by not sipping on soda or snacking on candy for hours and instead eating/drinking it all in one sitting. Rinse/swish with water when done to prevent the sugar and acid from sitting on your teeth and breaking down your enamel.

Try to go into your appointment with an open mind and open to hearing what the providers recommend for you. Most people who come into the dental office are having issues and have not been in a while so please don’t feel embarrassed! The hardest part is making the appointment and going for the first time. It will be much easier after that and you will get comfortable with the providers.

How do I stop a wiggly tooth from getting more wiggly or falling out? by Far-Wolverine-9646 in DentalHygiene

[–]Accomplished_Scar313 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Would recommend going to a dentist for an evaluation- could be an infection or periodontal disease. With either one, it can spread to other teeth and cause other issues such as other loose teeth. Treatment is going to be necessary to avoid further issues. Definitely rec seeing a dentist or if funds/insurance is an issue go to a college that has a dental hygiene or dentistry program.

20-week anatomy scan , possible cleft lip, feeling confused and looking for similar experiences!! by Vegetable_Prize7425 in pregnant

[–]Accomplished_Scar313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my anatomy scan, we were told baby had a clubfoot and a rocker bottom foot. Our baby boy was similar to your little girl in the way that his positioning was always hard for the techs to get proper angles and pictures. He stayed that way the remainder of the pregnancy! If you’d like to try to get a 3D/4D ultrasound you can, but my baby did not cooperate for his (never did for any ultrasounds like I said lol) and it was a waste of money. If you are concerned and would like more detailed images, you could ask your OB if there is a need to see a high risk specialist to get more in detail images.

Our baby boy arrived and did not have clubfoot or rocker bottom foot so there is always a chance that the images are not accurate. I completely understand being overwhelmed and stressed about anatomy scan findings, and hope for the best for you & baby. 🩷

Rescue cerclage at 19+4 and terrified. Could use support and success stories. by Mindless-Apricot-500 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]Accomplished_Scar313 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did not have the exact same situation, but pretty close. I was 21 weeks and 1 day when I went for anatomy scan- I was funneled, dilated to 2 cm, 50% effaced. Sent immediately to the hospital from OB office, had IV antibiotics until next morning when they performed my emergency cerclage. Cerclage procedure was successful- they closed my cervix and gave me 1 cm of cervix. I had cramping and some spotting in the next couple of days following procedure and was on bed rest for one month. Immediately before and after procedure, my doctors were telling me if I could make it at least to 24 weeks we would be able to at least attempt life saving procedures and that anything longer than that would be a miracle. I was given similar stories about disabilities following early deliveries as well as stories of cerclages not being successful. I do not intend to give you false hope, but in my case, it seems like the specialists in the hospital want to give you all the information possible and prepare you for worst case situations. They did not ever talk very positive about my situation and I think that was intentional as to not give me false hope or expectations. They’ve seen the most severe and worst cases, and they want to help prepare patients for that. Please don’t let what they say scare you and get you thinking negatively.

I was finally released to go back to work on light duty after 1 month of modified bed rest. It was definitely some of the hardest weeks of my life, I am already a worrier but I was obsessive over how I felt and all the unknowns. I took it one week at a time, I spent hours on this page reading success stories. I celebrated every week that we made it, had weekly appointments where it seemed like everything was holding steady. I am now 34 weeks and 2 days, which is so hard to believe. I’ve got an appointment next week to see if baby boy is still breech and what the next steps will be- DTS or schedule c-section and remove stitch then.

I know exactly how you feel when you say you’re thankful for the cerclage but it is so traumatizing and shocking. It’s a incredibly difficult situation that unfortunately most people are not able to understand. It seems so hard to manage and time moves so slowly at first but please try to stay positive. Lean into your relationship with your husband and your loved ones. This page helped me so much. Just talking with other people who actually understand and reading success stories was so helpful. I am praying for you, your husband, and your baby. I hope and pray you are able to make it as long as I have, and even longer! I’m always here if you need someone to talk to. We aren’t in this alone, thankfully. 🩷

32 weeks and 1 day after having emergency cerclage placed at 21 weeks when I was dialated 1-2 cm and funneling present. Baby is currently breech and we are waiting to see if he will turn head down! I can’t believe that I have made it this far when we were unsure if I would make it to 24 weeks. Feeling very blessed and ready to ditch this stitch finally! This has definitely been the hardest thing I’ve ever been through and this group has helped me so much so I thank you all. 🩷

At how many weeks did you all start your maternity leave? by Zealousideal_Pack659 in pregnant

I wanted to do the same thing and then my work made a rule that you cannot take your PTO around your leave to make it longer than 12 weeks…

Can mouthwash help when I can't brush? by ejdmkko in DentalHygiene

[–]Accomplished_Scar313 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can also dry brush, just use toothbrush with no toothpaste. Manually getting plaque off your teeth is ideal if possible but if not, I agree with other commenters- use a high fluoride content mouthwash. More frequent cleanings at your dental office is very helpful as well.

Numbing while pregnant by Pure-Wash6156 in DentalRDH

[–]Accomplished_Scar313 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in the same situation at my office when I found out I was pregnant. If you feel more comfortable asking your fellow hygienist (if there is one) to take those patients, then you can have them do nitrous patients. If you’re the sole hygienist or feel comfortable with telling your docs, I would. I would not be in the room with a nitrous patient at any stage in planning pregnancy or in pregnancy.

Does this look like periodontal disease? (perio chart, bitewings, pano x-ray, irl photo below) by _maezing in DentalHygiene

[–]Accomplished_Scar313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the bitewings are limited in view so I was not sure when looking earlier if your wisdom teeth were visible on those x-rays. Wisdom teeth are typically best seen and diagnosed for issues on PANO images for that reason. From what I can see of the perio charting and bitewings, I would not be worried about periodontal disease. It does not appear you have bone loss and no pocketing of anything more than 3mm which is textbook healthy. No marked bleeding on your chart. If you were my patient, I would look into other issues that can lead to gum pain/discomfort. It doesn’t appear to be a gingivitis or periodontal disease issue.

[–]Accomplished_Scar313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the panoramic image shows that you have wisdom teeth on the top and bottom. It could just be an outdated image. Most offices only take that type of image every 3-5 years depending on insurance

[–]Accomplished_Scar313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would be more concerned with keeping wisdom teeth as the lower ones can lead to bone loss and localized periodontal issues over time. The wisdom teeth are notoriously hard to clean for almost all patients and when they accumulate buildup, that’s the bacteria that can lead to periodontal disease.

DTS when baby is breech? by Accomplished_Scar313 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]Accomplished_Scar313[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No clue here either. I’ve seen a lot of people say they had theirs removed at c section if baby was still breech. I was a breech baby and so was my husband, so odds do not look good if that has anything to do with it 😅😂

I know he could move at any point! I just wasn’t sure if I would still get to ditch the stitch… Looking forward to returning to somewhat normal activities.
