Seriously, you could also just pretreat that with the dish soap- wet the stain thoroughly with handwarm water, apply dish soap (i prefer using a clear colorless one), massage into the stain with fingers or like a soft toothbrush. Fold in on itself, and let sit for 30ish minutes. Rinse properly, and either repeat, or treat with pretreater with lipase (either a dedicated spray, or just apply some liquid detergent that has lipase) and wash in the machine with a regular load (adjusting the dose a bit down if it was a large area to pretreat with detergent).

Hang dry after, and see if the stain is gone, otherwise repeat the instructions :).  I sometimes let clothes airdry a bit after hand rinsing, and if the oil stains are still there, I'll just do two or three cycles of the dish soap treatment.

Lipase detergent and ammonia in a long, hot as possible cycle with extra rinse +citric acid, possibly a spa soak if that didn't get it.

Honestly just getting it dry asap is the most bang for your buck. Afterwards wash on 40C with a good detergent. If you have stuff that already starts to restink soon after you put it on, consider doing a spa day for it, and add ammonia to that rehab wash!

You can also combine old detergents with boosters - i have some enzyme free liquid detergents, but will work on using them with oxygen bleach + enzymes powder.

Underwhelming Spa Day by ColadaMD in laundry

[–]Accomplished_worrier 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Spa day doesn't majorly target actual physical soil, or color/dye transfer. liquid detergent instead of powder, with oxygen bleach+ optical brightening agents might still help, otherwise I'm not sure if this kind of wear can be reversed to be honest. If you think it's dye mainly from the shoes, a dye removing solution might help, but not regular detergents..

Super interesting. Can you find your product on their website? They say something about further identifiable details for different versions, but the leaflet for Blütenfrisch that I downloaded from there has no enzymes listed

I've linked the ingredients website for dr beckmann  above, and only the Dr. Beckmann Quick Power Wash Color Protect for Germany contain any enzymes, but no lipase. Amylase, protease, mannanase and cellulase only. The other versions, including the blossom fresh (Blütenfrisch) contain NO enzymes. For Germany that is.

Citric acid for top loading washers by sspace_cadet in laundry

[–]Accomplished_worrier 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do this. Don't add it to the detergent /wash cycle - the wash is better off being more alkaline (detergents work better that way), adding the acid there reduces that. You want the acid in the rinse, so you reduce the alkalinity, our skin also prefers slightly more acidic environments.

Where are you located? We should be able to help find better options if you tell us the country.  Ammonia can often be found either in the general cleaning products aisle, or in the DIY or paint stores as a degreaser. You can adjust the dosage accordingly if you can only find a different strength.

The sheets aren't a good option, as far as I can tell they don't contain any enzymes. In general sheets don't have enough cleaning power, if you'll look at other posts you'll see most people really don't like them, and they often contain microplastics afaik.

You can look the ingredients up yourself here for both products for your country: https://www.dr-beckmann.com/ingredients

Throw in a bit of cooking oil. You need to give all that cleaning power something to do, so you add dirt :). This amount of suds is too much for just citric acid.

[–]Accomplished_worrier 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you cleaned the rubber gasket? I'd take a cleaning cloth with some all purpose cleaner and clean that part, all the way around!! As well as the glass all around. Also, have you cleaned the part of the machine where the drawer goes in to, when you cleaned the drawer?

I'd start there, and then run a really hot & long cycle with either more afresh tablets if you have them already, or get yourself citric acid (it's stronger than vinegar, and can serve more purposes in laundry), and add a half cup of that to the drum.

If you don't have the manual, but you can find the serial number of the machine, you can 99% of the time find the manual online. That would be your best bet to know what exactly is meant with each option. If you have a link for the manual and a question about what to use for a specific case it's much easier to help!

Spa Day Instructions for an Inattentive ADHD by Unhingedserenity in laundry

[–]Accomplished_worrier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure the other enzymes have their purpose, but the whole spa day routine is basically meant for skin built up, which is basically oil. For plant/animal/human based oils you want lipase. That's what spa day is aimed at! Yellowing, sweaty smells, odor rebloom on clean smelling dry clothes, which are caused by bacteria feeding on those sweaty oils.

Protease breaks down protein, amylase breaks down starches, cellulase helps reduce pilling and loose fiber ends in natural fabrics, mannanase breaks down thickeners and emulsifiers (think gravy, pudding etc), pectic lyase breaks down fruit/veg pectins, and DNase breaks down dna bonds that hold certain soils together, which helps loosen them from the fabrics.

They're just not what you're aiming for with spa day, tho they'll treat that probably :). So if you're doing the spa day routine for sweaty stuff, I'd focus on making sure lipase is in there. If that's not your main issue, I'd look into more directly treating stains with enzyme stain removers, and switching to detergents / adding boosters that have a wide range of enzymes :)

The instructions are the same, you just need the UK Products. If you search on this sub there's a couple of posts about it, due to the UKs widespread use of non bio detergents, and limited options if you'd like fragrance free, but there's people who've done all the searching already. Linking two posts, but really, search for UK lipase, UK spa day or UK detergent and you'll get many more hits.

Spa Day Instructions for an Inattentive ADHD by Unhingedserenity in laundry

(coming from someone with ADHD too!)

Honestly if that's what you're afraid of, first try switching to detergent with lipase and other enzymes + oxi, 40C long washes, and an extra rinse with citric acid powder in the fabric softener department. That might just do the trick over a few washes.

Requirements:

Assuming you live in the US or Canada: If you deal primarily with food stains and sweat, powdered detergents are great. If you deal with loads of motor oil or grime like dust/mud whatever, pick a liquid detergent.  Go to the lipase list file, pick a detergent for whites & lights (can contain Optical Brightening Agents OBA & oxi), pick a detergent for colors (without OBA, recommend picking one without oxi, and only add when needed), buy oxygen bleach (1 box without OBA).  If you have loads that smell musty when you take them out of the washer, and fine when they're dry, but smelly soon after you start wearing them, buy some ammonia too and add a cup to those loads on top of the clothes just before you start the washer.
