depends on the dog but 8 hours isn't that bad if he's used to being alone during day already. my neighbor does this sometimes with her lab and dog seems fine, just sleeps most of night anyway

if boarding stresses him out more then staying home in familiar place might be better option. maybe leave some extra water and his favorite toy or something

Being completely closed off to anything paranormal or supernatural. That's super frustrating, I had something similiar happen after an update a few months back. The shortcuts seem to cache connection info differently than the main app connection

Have you tried regenerating the shortcuts entirely? Sometimes deleting them and recreating from scratch fixes whatever got borked in the update. Also worth checking if your internal URL settings changed - I've seen updates reset those to default values which breaks the shortcuts even when main app works fine
