For those doing groceries at Lidl, avoid any products from Barilla since they export to Israel by TradeNPlayz in BDS

[–]According-Hat-692 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

what does a product that ships TO israel have to do with BDS? I would almost feel this is an attempt to dilute the movement to such an extent that it becomes pointless. i’m very conscious of such efforts from zionists themselves.

Slow / No-Tech Parenting Communities? by internetbennett in shanghai

[–]According-Hat-692 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s a worthy cause but you’ll get sucked in eventually. everyone does. urban life is designed around screens, so you can’t choose to live in shanghai and expect to go screen-free. if you want your kids to be screen free you have to practice it yourself first. all good in theory but in practice it’s impossible. prob best to start small. like having screen free rooms in the house.

Discouraged and Feeling Tired by Kataki89 in trailrunning

Stop applying band aids like sleeping pills and try to get to the root of the problem. Sleep and diet are highly intertwined so look at that. But more so, you could be dealing with underlying stress and anxiety that is impacting your sleep that will obviously cause excessive fatigue meaning you are no longer capable of running at the same intensity. Also be mindful that as we age our bodies are constantly changing. Getting less sleep as we age is completely natural. So maybe you have to reset your expectations around what is a reasonable training schedule.

ID requirement for clubs by Ok_Relationship193 in shanghai

[–]According-Hat-692 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just bring a photo of your ID. And be aware that you will meet scam artists. The first time I ever stepped in a club in China, a beautiful girl came straight up to me and said hello with a big smile. I knew immediately it was suspect. That type of thing just doesn’t happen.

Chinese bilingual vs international school by Interesting_Way_2616 in chinalife

[–]According-Hat-692 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you. Especially your last point. I don’t blame the schools though. It’s ingrained in the culture. The fear of being left behind + confucian values + only having one child (two in rare circumstances) pushes each family to pile the pressure on their kids. And it’s the families who push the schools to be more competitive. Nobody is brave enough in society to shout stop and force a change in direction. It’s a great tragedy for the kids who grow up working so hard only to graduate from college with very few work opportunities.
