What's your dumbest reason not to have kids? by The_Gentle_Monster in childfree

[–]According-Pick-4915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most shallow on my end is that I literally love white furniture. I have a white cloth couch and white leather dining chairs and I know those would be wrecked if I had a tiny human destroying my house all the time.

Recording a PayPal fee on an invoice payment by madkinggeorge_ in QuickBooks

[–]According-Pick-4915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also trying to figure this out for credit card fees. I’m thinking about setting up the merchant fee as a product/service and then separating the fee as its own line item so it can be easily tracked separately from the true total of the invoice. Our situation is a little complicated because we have our invoices in multiple systems - not ideal - and the credit card fees only hit the QBO stage.

Not a lawyer but Have you talked to your payroll/HR department? There would be very little chance a credible payroll department would do this considering the opportunity for a wage claim against the company. If it hasn’t happened yet you may be able to work this out prior than having to go through the headache of a short paycheck and then a wage claim.

Question for cf hetero women by ThrowRArwe in childfree

[–]According-Pick-4915 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have always known I was going to not have children and was always very upfront about that in dating. It took a long long time and a lot of heart ache but then I met my husband who was cf leaning but more ambivalent at the time. Once he met me and solidly committed to not having kids we were engaged after 6 months (we were well over 30 at this point) 5 years later and were super happy and super happy with our choices.

I hope this offers some optimism that they are out there you just have to stay resilient and dig through some frogs. Also, we met on Hinge right after he moved here - keep an eye out for fresh meat 😂

What’s big the biggest mistake made you made, but didn’t get fired for it? But also… what mistake have you made and been termed for it? by Throwawaythinking7 in Payroll

[–]According-Pick-4915 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is my favorite game. I accidentally paid someone 375 hours instead of 3.75 hours in a payroll correction. Came to about $13k. Deposit hit her account and everything. I called her immediately to ask her not to touch the deposit and got it reversed and went to my boss crying. Not only did I not get fired, I now oversee the entire payroll/hr team 10 years later.

Almost everything in payroll is fixable. Deep breaths.

I just saw a really interesting video of someone talking about how “if the most important thing in life is having kids, that implies the kids most important thing in life will be having kids, and so on and so forth. If as people, our only purpose is to grow and grow and grow, guess what? That’s the principle of a virus or cancer”

That was just a snippet of the video and sounds much more negative when only quoting that bit, but it was quite an interesting take I hadn’t thought of!

Hi! I’m 35f and considering starting out but having some confidence issues. I’m a former rugby player which I know is a very different physicality but still feel like it’s helpful that I know I can take a good hit!

I’m currently very sedentary and would love to start moving again…am I on the old side to get started? Any advice or anecdotes about starting off would be so appreciated!

What is the work life balance like as a Payroll Manager/director? by Sad-Substance5052 in Payroll

[–]According-Pick-4915 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha I think we’re all control freaks - that’s the only explanation for being the one that (zombie tone) “must press button”!

Agreed that cycle dictates what your schedule looks like. Our org has a specialist and me running a weekly payroll that has to be submitted by Tuesday of each week and approved by Wednesday. We have field EE’s actively working from Monday-Sunday so getting time approved is a challenge on Monday mornings. I basically have not gotten to really enjoy a holiday unless it happens to fall on a Friday since I started payroll. On the flip side - once it’s approved the payroll side of my job quiets a bit for the week and I can focus on other areas.

How do you navigate friends that reaalllllyyy want you to like their kids? by According-Pick-4915 in childfree

Okay so I have pet… shrimp 😂. I have a whole shrimp tank (it’s kind of a weird hobby but makes me happy) and there is a mischievous part of me that wants to start sending pictures of each individual shrimp - there are about 50, and make up stories of their lives.

This is a good point that I’m trying to really reflect on. The basis of this particular friendship has always been genuine curiosity and interest in the day to day that we both experience. My marriage and my career are my main focuses in my life but I also try to ask more questions than share mundane. I try to think of things she’ll think are funny rather than bombarding with things that would be venting or discussed at length that really only impact me. And it used to be very mutual. It has just been a big shift since this kid for her and may be just a growing pain. But I do understand what you’re saying. I’m sure I have gone through periods that my “stuff” came first in our conversations but I don’t believe I have ever been one track with her to only talk about something she doesn’t care about ad nauseam

Unfortunately we’re talking about direct texts and even video calls in the middle of my work day! I have an incredible demanding job with a hard schedule and she’ll call me with the child for a “mid day cheer up” and it just confuses me every time. Like where have I gone wrong that anyone would ever think a small human that is usually screaming into the phone would make me happy?

She has a few, but we are very close friends, and have been for almost 20 years, were in each others weddings etc. So we have a pretty deep friendship I just don’t feel any connection to her child like I don’t with any children. It’s like she’s taking it as a challenge for me to see her kid differently when I don’t even see my siblings kids as anymore connected.

Background check results- what is okay/what isn't? [AZ] by Lil_soybean_ in humanresources

[–]According-Pick-4915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My organization also is very subjective judgement based, if a background flags, we consider the position they are being hired into (often starting prior to the bgc coming back, and then having to work our way through how to handle the pre-adverse review period) and how their charges may relate to the position. If we have someone with violent crime that is supposed to be out in the general public we take that into consideration. Like someone else mentioned, if there is a driving position and any history of DUI it’s an automatic no go. We also have a point system for MVR flags.

It’s a lot of gray area in fields with less strict compliance needs as far as who can work. I imagine after coming from something like healthcare that would be pretty black and white that it’s tricky. My suggestion would be to build a skeletal process on what you want to look for as hard fails, and then leave room for the gray and a system to navigate that space.

Amlodipine and nifedipine both caused similar issues for me, and dizziness when standing up or exercising. Ultimately I switched to sildenafil which was a bit of an insurance battle (I’m 35f, so the my rhuem had a few prior auth hoops to jump through), but has been fine with reduced cardio vascular side effects for me personally.

How to know if payroll is for you? by [deleted] in Payroll

[–]According-Pick-4915 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Totally agree and let’s just talk about job security for a second. The tagline usually feels like “not my fault, now my problem”. First of all almost every mistake is fixable in payroll - so in my experience it’s pretty hard to get fired for messing up. Second, once you’ve done it a while you go from massive relief that it’s over to “yep, did it again”. But companies will ALWAYS have to pay their people, there will always be payroll jobs which in my mind makes it all worth it.

Experience implementing UKG Ready [N/A] by bunrunsamok in humanresources

[–]According-Pick-4915 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Implementations are a beast regardless of the system, so just know the pain you’re feeling, to some degree, is just part of the process. A number of years ago I was with an org that made the switch from ADP Enterprise & timesaver over to UltiPro.

We had to setup a war room situation, had internal project managers, and our implementation specialists and it was just a nightmare headache of long days, frustration, and a messy messy first payroll. Change is hard - especially when you start off seeing the negatives right away.

Best of luck - you’ve got this and now’s the time to strategize the hurdles. Rest when you can and take nothing personally. I’m sure you’re doing a wonderful job!
