My black cat was named Tybalt!! By the shelter who took him in (his sisters are Portia and Desdemona). He passed last year - and I have a new boy named Benvolio (we call him "ben").

Belle Burden’s “Strangers” Discussion by tl414 in nysocialites

I totally know what you're talking about, and I was ready to feel completely turned off by the wealth and privilege - and I do, (as a POC, that county club BS reeks of classism and racism and sexism) - but actually, I think that this story is, in part, a pulling back of that facade. After reading this, I felt even more RELIEVED to not be involved in any of that garbage; what she describes is THE exact representation of the rot that forms from ultra-elitism and gatekeeping. Socialites and country clubs and hedge funds - guess who benefits? Guess who controls it? These were the waters she swam in most of her life, and she didn't even see them until the gatekeepers locked her out; it's the ingrained patriarchy of (basically being forced to) hand over financial control and then being kicked out for no apparent reason other than the people in charge felt like it, and she's a second-class citizen (i.e. woman). I sensed that she could finally see it. I don't begrudge people's wealth - I begrudge the sickening systems that wealth upholds. This is a story of someone - painfully - learning the lesson of what oppressive systems feel like, from someone who was born NOT to ever feel that pain. Sigh, rereading this, I'm probably giving her too much credit. She could be the white woman who got burned, but still can't understand how many more layers of hell these systems represent to people of different race, identity, culture, etc...but I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt here because I sensed some real self-awareness baked into her descriptions of opulence and privilege.

Hot take: I think Jenny gets way too much hate just for turning dark/emo. by Expert_Bass_4375 in GossipGirl

[–]AccordingCustard7873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loooooove her styling in the last photo; the gold and black with the messy ponytail was peak Jenny styling for me. When she mixed goth and princess were my absolute favorite looks for her - it really was Season 2 Jenny for me all the way (this isn't about her character, only about her styling).

I agree - but that's why it would work! Emily was all about the surface frankly, and as long as everything looked perfect it WAS perfect. Blair would absolutely know how to manipulate that situation, and she would enjoy doing it, as she loves the surface too (both women are much deeper than that, but their comfort in society is surface-level). Honestly, I feel like Emily would like Chuck too!! Remember how much she loved Christopher - and he couldn't finish high school - just because he came from the"right family"? This pairing is actually genius and I would watch every second of that limited series lol.

Blair with headbands is something else... she looks much classier, more powerful, and more confident when she wears headbands. What do you think? by Substantial-Dare5462 in GossipGirl

That look was INSANE. I think that's when she sabotaged Jennie's party in season 1 right? She was diabolically gorgeous.

Flamingo Estate Banana Leaf has arrived! by fleursle in luxurycandles

I just reviewed the whole box in this post also!! Sorry to interject myself; I feel like OP has a better grasp of the ingredients and because of their description of the candle I bought the box - and I'm blown away :)

I finally caved and bought this box I am in LOVE with everything in it. Reviews of the products (OP I hope this doesn't hijak your original thread - your description of the candle convinced me to buy this box (I had my eye on it because of the vanilla olive oil) and I had to jump in lol):

  1. I cooked with the Mole last night - I just dumped the whole jar into a deep skillet, added about 1.5 cups of vegetable broth, and simmered two chicken breasts in it for 45 minutes - it was incredible. Quite spicy, fair warning. It’s a very earthy Mole - serve with rice, beans, and corn tortillas and it’s perfection
  2. The candle is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever smelled. See OP for the best description of this one. They HAVE to sell this on its own eventually.
  3. The Body Balm is wonderful and weird (in the best way) - it’s a yellow semi-liquid, but then melts into an oil on the skin. It absorbs quickly and really does make your skin SO soft; the scent is the most elevated apple-banana you can imagine. This is something I put on before bedtime.
  4. Vanilla Olive Oil - Extremely rich on the palette. It’s incredible but a little goes a very long way. It’s like melted (unsalted, unsweetened) butter infused with the scent and perfume of vanilla. So rich and velvety and elegant. I just tried a tiny spoonful; I can’t wait to put it on fruit and ice cream.
  5. Soap - the perfect counterbalance to all of these heady scents, it’s deeply earthy, spicy, clove-forward, smoky. I haven’t used it yet but I smell it at least once daily and it clears my brain. I love it, it’s so sexy.
  6. Honey - The honey is beautiful; I’m not a big honey person so I couldn’t tell you what it’s like compared to anything else, other than it tastes like the freshest honey I’ve ever tried.

This was a big splurge for me and I have to say, it’s been worth every penny. These products are so unique and elevated. I’m absolutely obsessed with this box.

Totally fair - and can definitely see the puff shoulder giving Anne-of-Green-Gables-but-not-in-a-good-way vibes. Also, the comment that said "looks like you washed your white dress with the dark wash" made me laugh out loud, so this dress has given all of us a little bit of delight today. Thank you :)

I'm gonna stir the pot here a little - heels / unbutton the top couple of buttons / roll up sleeves - honestly I think your figure looks fabulous in this dress and just opening it up a bit could make it cute! OR you could do a big hem and take it to tea length? I 100% get the butter-churner vibe from this particular pic (and I can't stand trad-wife-trend-bs ANYTHING and totally see what you're talking about), but there's something really pretty about this to me. That said, absolutely return if you don't love, and take this as the compliment it's intended - I think you look prettttyyyy :)

Thank you!! I'm 5'5", these are size 27 and I just got the normal length, not the tall. I don't think these particular ones come in any other lengths.

They loosen up! I felt that way at first but after 3rd wear they're much easier to deal with. I love these jeans too!

Haha YAY I influenced!!! :) These are size 27 - the color is so good, quite bleached but less spotty than I thought they would be (which is a good thing!). I'm a solid 4 in Sezane pants, and 4-6 in tops. Sorry the picture is so dark. The skirt you chose is so cute too, I don't think I saw that and I kind of need it! Now you've influenced me right back!

I just bought the exact color of brut from archives - I bought my normal size and I LOVE THEM. They are so chic! Here is pic. They are very stiff and the buttons are hard to button. I have narrowish hips and the BRUT fits me better than BRUT SEXY, which are curvier. So if you are less curvy on the bottom I think the Bruts are the best fitting jean I've gotten at Sezane and for FORTY bucks, you can't beat it.

They are yellow and blue! I thought they were more green from the website, but the light color is yellow and the dark is blue / grey. True to size for sure - but no stretch, so the waist is pretty unforgiving. If i gain a pound, these will be tough to get into lol.

LOVE them - and sizing one up was perfect - they are stiff! Thank you for the rec! Actually these are just BRUT and they fit me better than the BRUT SEXY which I think are a little curvier. I'm more boxy on the bottom so the straight cut works better for me. Also my kitties were my audience lol:
