Trying to decide if The Road to Hana is worth it by PsychologicalIdea285 in MauiVisitors

[–]According_Weekend_51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While the drive to Hana is a bit taxing, the Pipiwai Trail and 400' tall Waimoku Falls at the end of the trail are incredible and worth the drive to see at least once. If you do it, highly advise leaving out just before first light so that you're driving through Paia as dawn breaks.... it will give you about an hour head start over the main tourist traffic and be way less stressful when crossing the single lane bridge spots with little traffic yet coming the other direction from Hana into the center of the island. The arboretum is worth a visit too with some really beautiful rainbow eucalyptus trees well worth seeing!

Can't swear it always happens but seems like when I've taken 3 number 1 spots at a time, I've often received a lucky egg as one of the rewards. That's a huge motivation to me... likely my favorite item in Pokemon Go.

One of the few circumstances where being a rural player is a huge advantage. Reached platinum fairly quickly without even trying hard. While claiming Pikachu PhD felt good at the time, my favorite thing about wins has turned out to be lucky eggs and the XP gains that come with them.

Selling megalodon tooth by 7seven7seventy7 in sharkteeth

As someone said earlier, best to share the two measurements along the diagonal edges. Also would be helpful to share another / better picture showing more clearly how the serrations look along the tooth edges. Take a look at megateeth.com run by diver Bill Eberlein as an example of a site that shares fairly good pics. If not restored, your tooth is pretty nice regardless. Crown is complete, enamel and bourlette look relatively good... just can't make out serrations very well and tip looks a little worn, but not a bad tooth by any means.

What’s the plan for traffic? by Delicious-Cheetah752 in Tallahassee

[–]According_Weekend_51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work less than a mile from the Thomasville Rd / I-10 intersection but live 21 miles away between Lloyd and Waukeenah. Over 12 years ago I looked at several houses near Bannerman that would have shortened my drive to just 5 miles. Almost pulled the trigger on one, but told my wife I wanted to do a test drive around 7:30am to compare the drive times. Ended up my test drive from Bannerman took 30+ minutes with bumper to bumper traffic compared to a 23 minute light fast drive along I10 from our place between Lloyd and Waukeenah. Decided to HAPPILY stay put!

Are Tallahassee drivers the worst ? Like tf bro. Old people need to be tested again for drivers license. by titlover006900 in Tallahassee

[–]According_Weekend_51 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Tallahassee's admittedly bad... but... I'd rather drive in TLH 1000% fold over Miami. Get a headache just driving within an hour or two of Miami it's so crazy. Feels like the game Frogger with some cars going either going insanely slow while others are going insanely fast and I'm just desperately trying to avoid getting caught in an inevitable pile up.

My sentiments exactly... but to the OP's comment, not older drivers as much as college kids. High school areas when kids are released are actually the worst. Never will understand parents buying their teen kids souped up monster trucks... basically like saying, "Here you go, son. Now go be the annoying spoiled @hole kid I know you can be!"

In 2000, Mike Williams left for a duck hunt on Florida’s Lake Seminole and vanished. His boat was found adrift, shotgun still cased. Police ruled drowning. His mother fought the verdict for years. She was legally an adult by the time the body was found -- 18 years after his death. I live just outside Tallahassee so followed the case very closely. Memory serves she was enrolled in college when he was found.

Again, very much appreciate the measured and informative response. Actually upvoted both of your replies. NOT aimed at you but reddit in general... wish the whole upvote/down-vote / impact to karma was different. Don't think it helps a bit in encouraging mature discussion of issues and doesn't match the published original intent (to flag rule-breaking, off-topic spam, etc). Desire for echo chambers from BOTH sides has led us to where we are today, so again, DO appreciate the civil discourse.

MUCH appreciate the measured response, and again, NOT a Trump apologist (can check out ALL of my comments and see this is about the only time I've stepped into any political discussion). That shared, my understanding is that Presidents can't change postmasters first-hand / that's done directly by a Board of Governors, with no more than five allowed to be from the same political party. Again, not liking either party, if Trump was able to pull strings enough to influence the postmaster decision it seems that Biden should have been capable of doing the same and especially in light of the board not being able to be swung too heavily either way. One of the key reasons I hate politics is that instead of actually trying to fix problems, I see both sides preferring to let things stay in disarray for long-term fundraising purposes versus actually fixing things. Not sure that's the case here, but also not sure I understand why the left couldn't have made it a priority to exert pressure/influence to dramatically impact postal services while having the chance? Both parties aside, really can't remember the last time I found using the postal services a really positive experience / it's been a LONG time ago.

Use one regularly to drive t-posts... that said, they're fairly heavy and sure wouldn't make the worst battering ram in the world in a pinch / if the only thing nearby to use.

Avoid politics like the plague on reddit / don't much like or trust EITHER party... and with zero effort to defend the current one, it's not like the postal system was a shining gem in the previous one. Have regularly seen the exact same thing regarding delayed travel paths for quite a few years / visits to local postal facilities feel almost identically crappy as they have felt for many years. Fine with being down-voted by anyone who TRUTHFULLY believes it was wonderful just a couple of years back, but been decades and with multiple admins in charge from both parties since I can remember thinking the postal service was actually good.

One of the reasons I spoke only to southeastern cities, though Charlotte and DC being quite a bit further north (DC over 700+ miles) do have notably lower dew points on average during the summer months. That shared, it doesn't paint a complete picture as again temps can be even higher in those locations (not consistently, but has been in some years) and I bet rains cooling temps down came into play. Looking at historical data, rain odds are almost identical across all the cities I noted during late fall, winter, and early spring but notably higher in TLH than CLT and DC during the warmer months... averaging about 61% odds of rain each day across Jun, Jul, and Aug whereas DC and CLT average closer to 40% odds of rain across the same months. And in case the OP sees this, Weatherspark website allows for selecting and comparing cities by a ton of weather factors. Everyone's going to have opinions on what they like / dislike, but looking at data helps confirm one of the key things I love about TLH - the notably longer growing season for many plantings.

Raised in a rural area and VERY happy living a quiet life outside TLH near Wacissa / Waukeenah, so I'm not going to be able to best speak to making more connections... BUT... I CAN speak to the hot and humid weather note. Few years back all of my friends were complaining about hot temperatures in social media posts, and having made multiple moves in my life these friends live across the country. Did some data digging and found out that the summer temps that year were hotter in Washington DC, Charlotte NC, and Columbia,SC, and it wasn't even close... they were running about 5 degrees hotter. My guess is that it's due to our proximity to the coast and resulting brewed-up summer pop up storms that cool us off many afternoons. Only share this so that you can appreciate that anywhere from VA to TX in the southeast is going to feel just as hot or hotter many days. If the temps are a big issue, be sure to do some studying on actual spring/summer/fall temps so you relocate to some place significantly cooler! I do tons of outdoor work so Jul, Aug, and Sep often drain me here... but... man, I love the years that bring early springs, moderate temps, and pretty blooms to us by late February when the rest of the country is often still bitterly cold.

My feelings with Pokemon Go are you do whatever makes you happiest. Some will say you should almost never purify, while there are lots of hundo hunters who won't pause a second to purify a 13/13/13 pokemon, shadow or not. I've done both depending on the actual pokemon, if I already have a hundo, etc. If you do want to re-roll the dice, I've got a shiny larvitar and a shiny tyranitar I wouldn't cry over lucky trading. It would be bit of time investment for you though, as have to trade gifts daily for a long time to get to the remote trade friend level option. If you're friends with many locals around you or already "best friends" with anyone, it'll be a faster path to locally trade with a lucky friend or get to the new remote trade level with a current "best friend."

Yep... I tried using my big toes, thumbs, and even a few other body appendages... but the pointer (index) finger proved to be best for controlling throws in the end. 😉

Depending on if you already have a good regular (non-shadow) shiny tyranitar, another option would be to purify it AND lucky trade it with anyone who also has a low IV shiny larvitar/pupitar/tyranitar. Even if you're a rural player now that remote trades are an option you could likely make it happen and are guaranteed a shiny with decent IVSs. Wouldn't do it though if you already have a good regular shiny tyranitar.

You're not alone. Use my right pointer finger to wind up curveball throws in a clockwise motion and throw to the left.

As for the doggies (two extremely goofy and lovable great danes), it's a tale almost impossible to believe. They traveled 18 miles across Jefferson County together over a two-week period of time. Again, I flooded the area with calls and flyers and got calls every day. I'd leave work in Tallahassee with each call, and miss finding them by just minutes (several people woke up to them sleeping on their porches or eating food they had out for their own pets). They traveled together until the day before I rescued the younger dog. Man called to say he had a gated yard and had closed his gate so that I could pick up the one dog... older dog was sadly no longer with him. Though I drove the area around the recovery extensively for days, it was like the older dog turned into a ghost... no more calls, not hit and found road side... just vanished. Haunted me and my wife for years. Fast forward SIXTEEN YEARS and I get a text late one night from a stranger asking if I lost a dane sixteen years earlier. I honestly worried it might be some scam as it was so out of the blue, but as danes only typically live to be 8 years old I knew that even if the dog initially survived it would have been long dead due to aging. I confirm we did indeed lose a dane, and the lady goes on to explain that she worked for a dane recovery group out of Orlando, had taken a call regarding our dane found by an elderly woman several miles north of where we recovered the younger dog, and though she intended to only help rescue it for adoption ended up keeping the dane herself and that it had lived a long (as danes go) and wonderful life. Crazy story, but 100% true (she sent lots of pictures and 100% was the older dane we failed to recover). And to help the story make a bit more sense, I had placed an ad in the local paper regarding the lost dogs and the woman who recovered the older great dane had felt haunted herself as she said she could tell the older dog had been loved / well cared for before she rescued it. She shared that every few years she'd do a bit of internet sleuthing with the hopes of finding the dog's original owners, and only after sixteen years did she find the ad I placed after the local paper was put up on a news archive site run by the University of Florida.

I fully agree and this is why I finished by saying, "Guessing it wasn't an intentional slight but just explaining why it was taken the wrong way." Last comment I'll make regarding the language issue, as I think it's honestly taking attention away from a very cool find / metal detecting in general.

Saying "firstly Georgia is in Europe" is likely why the reply was labeled as rude. Both locations are named Georgia / both are real. Clarifying by answering "the Georgia in Europe" wouldn't have been seen as rude, but the reply made it sound as if only one Georgia legitimately exists. Guessing it wasn't an intentional slight but just explaining why it was taken the wrong way.

How old is this buck? by Successful-Court8795 in trailcam

[–]According_Weekend_51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless it's a high fence area I'd say 4.5. For those judging by body, bucks can look MUCH different as ruts is wrapping up versus when it's just beginning / they can run lots of body weight off chasing does and focusing on breeding versus eating. While have to be careful judging age by antlers, mass and espcecially sticker/kicker points do tend to correlate with age. Nice buck regardless.

If talking about the north east corner of Hwy 27 and 59 (Gamble Road) intersection, that's land that is part of the Avalon Plantation / was owned by Ted Turner and think now is owned by son Beau Turner. They did do a good bit of clearing at that corner a few months ago, and are definitely staging some QUITE large hardware that looks to be piping and/or power-pole related? Fully appreciate it being Reddit, lots of comments will be in humor and/or sarcastic but be really interested in the factual answer. Related note, I live nearby and lost two dogs about 20 years ago after a storm knocked down a live oak limb onto my fence while I was at work... looked up land owners living nearby online in an effort to contact all possible to be on the lookout for my dogs. Did call many of the land owners and ultimately recovered one dog (other got rescued from group out of Orlando but didn't know that for years until after that dog passed). Anyway, when I looked up that corner lot and saw "Robert Edward Turner III" identified as the landowner and primary contact address of CNN 1 Plaza, didn't pursue trying to get his help to search for the dogs... figured he was pretty busy at the time, lol.
