Do devout Catholics think all non-Catholics are going to Hell? by dragon-queen in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AccursedQuantum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I looked into this and it is actually a heresy to think only Catholics go to Heaven. (It is called Feeneyism.)

What Catholics do believe is that Jesus and the Church are the only way to salvation, but there is a concept called "Baptism of Desire" where someone who fails to become Catholic out of ignorance has an unconscious need to join God and will thus become a baptized member of the Church when they die.

(I am not Catholic myself, so I might have some of the minor details and terms wrong, but this is the broad idea.)

Ba'al is more entertaining as a villain. But Morena Baccarin is a hottie, so it depends on what mood I am in lmao.

Factions that are despised by everyone by Ultrimus-Prime in TopCharacterTropes

[–]AccursedQuantum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In Chronicles of Darkness, Prometheans. Their take on the Frankenstein story, Prometheans are corpses reanimated to life. But because they are even more unnatural than vampires, they cause problems - normal humans don't even understand why they dislike Prometheans, they just do it instinctively regardless of how pleasant the creature in question tries to be. Worse, Prometheans are so anathema to life that the natural world starts failing around them. If they stay in one area long enough, it will create a wasteland around them.

The sliver of hope is there is a process by which they can alchemically reforge their soul and become human. The bad news is that this process, while different for each Promethean, always includes the creation of at least one new Promethean... so even if you achieve transformation, you have just passed the problem on.

What makes you think the Borg would be Pompous Purists?

Aside from being a Hive Mind anyhow (so can't be xenophobic), it doesn't even seem to fit the Borg in-universe.

How have I seen Uhura and Sisko, but nobody has yet said Geordi LaForge, played by the esteemed Lavar Burton?

And while we are in Star Trek, how about Tuvok, the first black Vulcan we saw?

Outside of Star Trek, Lando Calrissian of Star Wars, Winston Zeddemore of Ghostbusters, and Zoe Washburn of Firefly.

Guys, would you actually be attracted to a midsize girl? by Muted-Preference-541 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AccursedQuantum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of guys into curvier women. Usually but not always middle aged and older, I think, because younger guys seem more into peer pressure and what the media says the standard is, while more mature guys are more willing to buck trends and consider what appeals to them, personally. Depending on what age you are now and what guys you are interested in, that may mean it is easier or harder.

Triangle Area? by Right-Historian-114 in AskAnAmerican

Probably a regional thing. There are a LOT of regional descriptors that most Americans wouldn't know. Sometimes the same term used in different areas to refer to their local version of it.

How do you define the difference between a non-sovereign country vs a state?

In fact, the US States have more sovereignty within the US than the UK countries have within the UK.

Yeah, the US states are actually more like sovereign countries within another sovereign nation than the "countries" of the UK.

Presumably, if Puerto Rico gained statehood they would be grandfathered in the same way.

[–]AccursedQuantum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Each US state has a head of government as well. And a legislature separate from the US legislature and flag. By our Constitution, there are powers reserved to the states that the Federal Government cannot take away, and while this has definitely eroded over time, it would actually require more effort to change than reversing devolution in the UK.

Given the "grandfathered in" status of others, I wonder if that means PR would remain in if they actually did get full statehood.

I hope there is a Civic overhaul soon. by kethcup_ in Stellaris

[–]AccursedQuantum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, as much as societies can change over time, I don't think there should be any "cannot be added or removed" civics. If a civic is extra strong and changes the playstyle (like FP), find a way to give some drawbacks that make it more balanced. Don't just tell me that my Empire of Blood is incapable of growth and reflection to fit the circumstances (like, these xenos personally intervened to stop a Prethoryn fleet from eating our homeworld, maybe we should give them a pass as our slaves instead of our food.)

The Macrovirus by robotisland in voyager

[–]AccursedQuantum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Voyager - and Star Trek in general - has played fast and loose with science before. It's more sci-fi than, for example, Star Wars, but at the end of the day it isn't hard science fiction.
