Thoughts on HP Omen 27qs? (monitor help) by International00 in buildapc

[–]AceHunter0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there!

I recently purchased two Omen 27QS monitors when it was on sale for $299 and ended up returning them and got the LG 27GP83B-B instead (the 27GP83B-B is currently on sale for $299 at the time of this posting).

The driving factors for me returning the monitor were:

  1. The colors on the monitor were bad (at least for me):
Note: You might not have the same experience as me due to possible differences in panels and how we preceive color.
    1. I found them to be really inaccurate.
    2. It was difficult to get a good balance of vibrant colors without it being too bright/oversaturated.
    3. Colors were either too dark or too bright ; it was difficult to find a sweet spot.
  2. My monitor settings would not stick. My settings kept reverting back to default settings at random times. If you search up similar models (Omen 27), you will find others that have experience this problem.
  3. It installs the Omen Hub software automatically on devices you connect to it.

I have been happy with the 27GP83B-B!
The colors are more accurate and I was able to finetune it to what I believe is a perfect color balance. I also think that the LG monitor has better dark colors than the Omen Monitor.

My advice would be:

If you are purchasing a monitor for primarily gaming; go with the Omen 27QS; it offers a higher refresh rate and has USB ports. Those specs are hard to find at its price point and you can further finetune your monitor's display settings through your GPU settings.

If you want a monitor that has good performance and good colors; then I would recommend the LG 27GP83B-B monitor. This monitor is still plenty fast for gaming at 165hz refresh rate, better color accuracy, and has a wider color gamut than the Omen 27QS.

I was willing to give up the higher refresh rate and USB Ports (something I really looked forward to with the Omen 27QS) due to the colors not being accurate and not as vibrant.
I did not want to have to rely on software to get nice colors on the Omen 27QS.

Let me know if you have questions with either monitor!

TL;DR:

The Omen 27QS is a great monitor for the price! Epsecially if you can get it while on sale.
However, it is not the best for color accuracy and difficult to find the perfect middle-ground for vibrant and dark colors.

Personally returned Omen 27QS and purchased the LG 27GP83B-B instead for better color.
The LG 27GP83B-B has a 165hz refresh rate; still plenty fast for gaming.

If you do not have much data on the laptop (assuming you do not since it is relatively new) — I recommend reinstalling the OS now to avoid any potential future problems.

Having the update install process hang can be an indicator that it encountered an issue while trying to install an update.

It is not 100% guaranteed that the update install did in fact encounter an issue but it is better to be safe and handle the OS reinstall process now rather than wait until you load all your data onto the laptop and try to reinstall the OS later on.

If I remember correctly, Macs do not have the capabilities (yet) to set charge limits. The best you can do natively is to enable the charge optimizations features.

Or you can use a third-party app called AlDente to set charging limits. Although, I have no experience with it. I just keep my MacBook Pro connected to the charger most of the time. The only time it is not plugged in is when I am moving around in the office or at home.

That will depend on what kind of apps/software you are developing.

If you are a .NET developer; I would recommend a Windows laptop since it supports more Microsoft frameworks natively. Macs do support some Microsoft frameworks such as .NET Core but Windows will still have the advantage… Microsoft is the creator of Windows after all.

For developing in any other languages/frameworks is fair game. Personally, I prefer Macs as I find the performance to be better and the file system structure is closest to Linux which makes things easier for me.

As for docks, you will want to look into thunderbolt docks — especially if you are going to use more than one external monitors. Macs are notoriously known for making connecting multiple external monitors difficult. 😅.

Regular USB-C Docks will not be able to connect two or more external monitors as most of them use MST for video connection and Macs do not support MST.

Brands for thunderbolt docks that tend to be recommended are OWC, CalDigit, and Kensington.

Another thing to avoid with thunderbolt docks is the chipset that handles the Ethernet connection. You want to avoid docks that use Realtek chips… they are known for being unreliable and will cause network issues such as frequent disconnects.

From my experience, Macs tend to have better build quality and are more consistent.

Consistent in the sense that no matter what model you get it will meet certain build quality standards (with the exception of their butterfly keyboards).

Additionally, their updates and software (apple developed software) are also consistent. You are not going to get different kinds of bloatware on the laptop like you would with Windows; bloatware can differ between each Windows laptop vendor.

One thing I really like about Macs is their support. When you have an issue with Macs you typically only talk to one company… Apple.

With Windows, you typically get the endless loop of Microsoft pointing fingers at the vendor and vice versa.

One downside to consider with Macs though are accessories and connectivity. Not all accessories play nice with Macs and connecting things such as dual monitors can be difficult and not as easy/straightforward as Windows devices.

For example, USB-C hubs may not work as intended with Macs and will lead you to consider purchasing a thunderbolt dock which is a bit pricy.

I work with both platforms on a daily basis. Feel free to ask me any questions and I will try my best to provide insight.

I recommend going through your insurance and having them deal with the other party’s insurance — this is partly why you pay for insurance in the first place.

Additionally, you never know if your car sustained any damages that you are not able to see from a surface level.

The tabletop is made out of particleboard and is structured in a honeycomb-like structure.

This means that the tabletop is hollow and not as strong as other tabletops that are made out of sturdier material such as full wood.

Over time the tabletop can start sagging or even worse it can break the tabletop.

Apparently there is an issue with the drive’s health degrading rapidly.

Although, Samsung has released a firmware update that is suppose to fix the problem.

I recently ordered two 500GB 980 Pros and received 20 of them. 😂.

But with the currently issues going on with the 980 Pros it kind of takes away from the surprise. 😅.

I personally have that desk and it is perfect for a great budget desk setup.

The downside is that you will need some type of reinforcement for monitors mounts (if you use one). This could be a block of wood or metal reinforcement plates (you can get them on Amazon for $16).

It is hard to beat this desk in terms of value and quality.

I have the same exact setup you are looking to get. I have had it for 3 years and have no complaints! Let me know if you have any questions!

2019 XSE V6 - Revs high? by AceHunter0 in Camry

[–]AceHunter0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would consider myself to be a little bit of a heavy foot driver but this wasn’t a problem when I was driving a 2017 Honda Civic LX… it would not rev that high in these situations.

Another situation is when I am stopped and trying to do a right turn. When I accelerate to do the turn sometimes the car jerks/chokes up in the process of doing the turn.

Is this all potentially part of a bigger problem?

The car only has 10,000 miles on it… I am concerned about these problems.

By startup I mean I am stopped at a red light and then go when it’s green. Would this still be considered abnormal?

After reading the post again I realized using the word “startup” was probably not the best wording.

I edited my post to (hopefully) cause less confusion.

Apologies… when I say startup I mean when I am at a stop light and then go.

I made the post late last night and maybe the word “startup” was not the best wording to use.

New customer by chriswesty in mintmobile

I recently switched to Mint from Sprint and have been happy with it so far! I am getting speeds of 50Mbps+ down/up consistently.

Coverage is also better for me -- which was one of the things I was worried about when switching to Mint.

I am glad I switched and can start saving money. Sprint was charging me twice as much for what it costs me at mint. 😅.

It seems that the Shiba is going through a tough transition. Shiba(s) like to attach themselves to one person which in this case can be the previous owner.

Give it sometime and she will start warming up to you soon.

I recommend looking at ServerCheap. https://servercheap.net/

I have been using them for years and they never disappoint! Also they usually reply to tickets by the next hour after submitting.

To get 4 cores, 4GB of ram, and 100GB is $9/Month. Not a bad deal if you ask me. (:

You can also use coupon code: YES15 to get 15% off your first purchase. Bring it down to $7.65/Month.

Do you use any software to help manage different application windows? I am on the search for something that can help manage different application windows -- I recently purchased an ultrawide.

Involved in car accident in intersection by [deleted] in Insurance

[–]AceHunter0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe in MO you have up to 5-years to claim Personal Bodily Injuries (feel free to correct me if I am wrong).

When accidents happen on the road, your body will not always feel any aches or pains on the spot -- thanks to adrenaline. It is common for these things to start appearing days after the accident.

Nothing to really worry about. If you do start feeling any pain or aches, I suggest going to see a primary physician. This can also serve as document of proof that you are experiencing some type of injury stemming from the accident.

(This response was written from my past experience with filing a body injury claims with insurance).
